user reviews of the Monkhams Inn, Buckhurst Hill

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Regular book club meetings in here, alternating with MENSA symposiums every second week. Bags to do whilst your man waits for you in your carriage, check out the replica wall (brick for brick!) in the extensive gardens where they play the Eton wall game or peruse the Magna Carta on display in the Orangery.

What? They’ve dismantled the wall, wiped their arses on the Carta and thrown the toffs on the pyre along with the books? Gah! I knew it wouldn’t last!

Still a chav palace, unfortunately; avoid.

This is a good pub for a meal and a pint and much better than it was. Often have deals. Best to visit during the day rather then the evening as I found out recently as the undesirables lurk around. The staff are quite friendly. Food seems all prepacked stuff but tasted alright.

It has been nicely refurbished but still suffers with some moronic clients.

The Land Lady is lovely, but sadly she has no presence in the pub, the bar staff are young and very inexperienced.
If the "Guvnor" stamped their authority on this pub it would be great, sadly they think people want to watch X Factor on a Saturday night down their local!

Visited this pub for the first time this week and was really impressed. Great wine (and cheap!) and the food was at the upper end of the pub-grub scale. The bar staff are some of the friendliest I've ever met, definitely worth the visit.

Apparently this pub will be making way for a new appartment block soon, full of chavs anyway.

Bring on the wrecking ball!

Fine place, Nice and spacey, Drinks were ok. Pool tables and music geared towards younger drinker. Nice effort.

Quite possibly the worst music I've ever heard in a pub when its not trying to be kitsch. Eurovision song contest ditties from the 80s had people nodding and tapping their feet. Coupled with the rude landlady who simply ignored requests to talk with her, this place would go to the wall without the pool tables keeping the punters trickling in.

I worked in the Monkhams for two years and it is my local. Very freindly atmosphere, good size and under new management.

While i ws working there it was suppost to be Over 21's. This was enforced to keep those uder 18 trying to get served.

If you are 18 and have decent identification you be be fine.

Over 21's but some of the staff are not!. I don't see the point of having a over 21's pub if the staff are not. Apart from that the Monkhams is a nice pub.

Lively pub with a friendly atmosphere. Friendly bar staff, well lit. Beer garden for drinking in the summer.
Up to date jukebox, friendly landlord & landlady.
Very nice food served daily.
Over 21's only.
