I walked in and some fella was singing please release me, he was amazing and if anyone knows him I wanna sign him up to my record label, but out of nowhere the landlady came out and started punching him! Add that to the anti Semitic Welshman and you've got great entertainment :) barmaids are lovely definately worth a look (except for the fat one). Only downside of the night was some boring geezer with a ponytail sent me to sleep, and I couldn't get a stool coz some fella needed 3 of them to sit down

Not too bad but a bit modern inside. No character to the place. The landlady was nice and friendly and quick to serve. Noticed a photo of the great Pat Jennings on the wall but sadly it was in an arse-nal shirt. Oh dear.

Great pub. I'm a local and along with the griffin this is the best pub in Whetstone. All the others are a bit soulless.

Irish bar staff are good fun, and I always get into good conversation when I go here.

I used to go to this pub before the refurb, and it was nice and cosy then but the staff were horrible and I never wanted to stay long.

It's changed since the refurb, a lot bigger and spacious but it's still nice. The bar staff are great now, really friendly. It's great for watching sport on match days. The food is tasty as well, definitely a pub that I go to when i'm in Whetstone.

I quite liked this - small and cosy interior with a good local's feel on the weekday afternoon I visited. Two or three real ales and very friendly service from the Australian barman. In an area which appears to lack many other pubs, this is a decent enough place.

My first and only gripe with this place is that the bar is far too small for the size of the pub. The bar is opposite the entrance and It only takes 7 or 8 of the regulars to sit at it and you cannot get to it or get past to the upstairs toilet. They are not the fastest to move out of the way either.

Bog standard lagers along with GK IPA, Landlord and pride are all available, but as mentioned it is a little pricey. The barmaid/landlady is friendly, but the younger staff need to cheer up a little and pretend that they enjoy working. There is a courtyard with some seating out the back and some more seating at the front on 2 main roads.

I never drank in here before the refurbishment so I have nothing to compare the place with, but there are a lot worse pubs around than this one and if I sit outside I can see my bus home coming.

This pub has definitely gone down hill. I used to go in here regularly up to about 3 years ago whenever I was working at Wheatstone Station once a week. Now its terrible. As a lot of others have already said there are too many TV sets' Too much noise' No Quiet corners to talk or drink in And most important No decent Real Ales on tap glad I don't have to work over there now.

This pub used to have character, reasonable prices and good real ale. Since the expensive refurbishment earlier in 2007, the prices have rocketed and the choice of real ale has diminished in favour of gassy keg beer. Will not be visiting there again.

Sometimes things don't need a makeover - if it ain't broke don't fix it. Its now like innumerable other 'smartened up' pubs. I liked the divided rooms and the snug, olde worlde feeling, all of which has gone.

Oh and its called the "Three Horseshoes at Whetstone", for some unknown reason

Totally disagree with the comment below. I was pleasently suprised at the makeover, which has brought a much needed modernisation of the pub, while keeping with the character. The service was good, and the house wine reasonably priced at 8 a bottle. Definately my first choice of pub along whetstone.

Planner and Borrowed have got it right. I'm sad to say that this is my local. Recently had a make over and is now rubbish. Used be a traditional pub, now a soulless dive. Went in yesterday, waited 5 minutes for a pint during which several 'regulars' were served before me even though the barman obviously knew it was my turn, but tried his hardest to avoid making eye contact with me. Turned around and left. Went to the Griffin instead which is much better. Wont be coming back.

Borrowed_ales is correct. It was once a very cute & cosy pub but has now been "opened up" as they say, which has made it rather souless. Wood panelling still in place, but a bit crap now. Too many TVs for a small pub. Shame.
Planner_21 - 11 Mar 2007 15:01
Reopened on 23rd Feb after a major refurb. The place is at least twice as big as it used to be. No real ales on when I visited but there were 3 pumps so maybe once they get their act together they'll put some ale on. I counted 5 TV screens playing 80's and 90's music. This used to be a nice cosy local pub, is now a bit more trendy/crap. Is still possibly the best pub in Whetstone, due only to a lack of competition. A Shame.

Currently closed for refit and now under new management.

I like this pub if you want a quiet night, Magners on tap!!! Friendly bar staff, small garden. Some times live entertainment. Nice atmosphere. Gets the thumbs up from me.

Went to this pub one lunch time - it was OK and they did Stella but the landlady didn't exactly make me feel welcome by putting the extractor fan on and moaning loudly about "people smoking in public places". It's a pub for God's sake woman - get a life. I won't be going back again.

Nice Atmosphere, Nice Beer, nice food, Nice Staff, Friendly landlord, what a lovely pub.

A bit pricy but it keeps the rif-raf out.

one of only two real pubs in whetstone- area doesn't really have a pug-going demographic-, the other is more youth-orientated, so this is the only q relaxed place. has three ales. does food. feels like genuinly like a country pub . a good destination, with a real pub atmosphere, friendly and entirely unpretensious, and has two bars, plus a fire .
