Disappointing. Called in at about 5.30 on a Thursday. A few locals drinking lager. One ale on - Fullers London Pride - but was told that it wouldn't be ready for drinking until about 7ish. Place seemed a bit run down.

I'd been to a number of pubs in Wapping, which I always find to be one of the most characterful areas of London. But this was my first visit to this pub yesterday. The rugby was on and many of the local pubs were packed. This small single room bar was not quite so busy. So I even managed to secure a table. Two ales were on - the house beer Old Star Special from Elgoods & Fullers London Pride. I tried the Special which was fine. A couple of TVs were showing the rugby and at one end of the bar is a pool table. Not a bad pub at all. But I think there are better ones in Wapping in my opinion.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime on route to football at Upton Park. I had the Elgoods which was most enjoyable. We were first customers of the day, lovely sunny day so we sat in the garden. Pub was filling up as we left and before Tottenham got stuck into Man City which was on the screens but not the space wasn't dominated by them. Friendly landlord. Definitely worth a visit if in Wapping for a few.

I'll be frank - didn't look too promising from the outside and first impression when entering wasn't great. My first impressions were wrong. Basic boozer but very friendly and welcoming. Barlady couldn't have been more friendly. Nice change from some of the busier, better know pubs on the river.

3rd pub of the evening and yet another new pub for me in Wapping.

3 pumps with 2 ales and 1 cider, I went for Elgoods Old Star Special @ 3.8%, a decent pint brewed for the pub.

Amazing tiled windows here that add real character to the pub. The garden is a nice little sun trap aswell.

All punters on my visit were locals & it was less than half busy with several of the chaps playing pool.

Quite a decent pub, another one that has avoided too much modernisation.

Very friendly traditional boozer. We walked in when there was a Wake on but everyone was very accommodating and the Landlady was very chatty. A nice break from the food driven Prospect & Captain Kidd and has a proper locals feel to it with some interesting (but non-threatening) old school East End characters. Well worth a visit if in the area.

Friendly boozer but the London Pride at £3.50 was really awful.
It was replaced with no problem at all, but the replacement Pride was only a little better.

Lovely old boozer, empty on a Tuesday afternoon (but what do you expect), landlady opened it just for us. Indifferent beer but cheaper than riverside pubs and a nice distraction.

I went here to end a Stag Night last summer and it was not bad for a Coronation Street style estate pub. Friendly enough staff and locals but quiet for a Saturday night. and it was open late as I recall.

It was all going so well until the Groom's brother dropped his guts and we had to make a sharp exit for health reasons.

Very small pub, but nice if you fancy a game of pool or darts. Most nights I've been in its been empty though, which is a shame, except for when the hockey crowd come in, when it can get quite busy.

Solid East End local boozer - homely and friendly atmosphere - warm and full of character. Advertises guests and has two pumps, but only Pride available on our visit. Decent old fashioned boozer with a landlord firmly in charge with traditional values. Very good place.

I went in this pub a few weeks ago with some friends. We're not from this area and you could tell. As we got the odd look now and again. It seemed like a nice enough pub until the girl behind the bar started with the dirty looks and attitude as it seemed i had caught her boyfriends attention!! She was very bossy towards other customers in the pub ( those she obviously knew) but was quite hostile towards my friends and I. Wedrank up and left and ended up at a lovely little 'ORGANIC' pub called The Captain Kid, much better reception and very comfortable. Personally i wouldn't recommend going to this pub (turners) unless your a friend of the owners and employees.

Great Pub now been taken over by new owners who are from the comunity, if you like a bit of fun and music or a game of pool this is the place to go, they have loads of entertainment and a big screen with all the football, they even have a trampoline in the garden and have a new range of beers on the pumbs this pub just gets better and better I would differently recommend this pub and the new owners are great.

Fantastic. Very welcoming. A pub relevant to wanting a quiet drink, wanting some company and a chat, wanting to dance (events/parties held), pool, music, sports - tv (big screen), food etc. The list is endless. Very versatile and very responsive/reactive. Run by true members of the community. Such a lovely feel. Heidi, Nick and I wish them the best now and for the future!

Been taken over again, just as the pub was getting beter! new people have had a decent juke box taken out and replaced it with a cd version, with a crap selection. Better off going to the captain kidd.

Lovely pub- recently been taken over and very friendly. Good selection on the juke box and also has a pool table and fruit machine

Yes indeed, Brian has gone. I went in with my old man before Xmas only to find our bags of chips weren't welcome as they were doing food. I asked about Brian and fella behind the bar said he owned it and Brian was a tenant. he wouldn't say much more about the situation. Suffice to say he did let us eat our chips and have a beer.

The East End boy who ran this pub seems to have moved on and new people are running it now. If there ever was a pub that could be a great pub this is it. I hope it can be dragged up to where it belongs.

Brilliant local with some excellent characters. Nothing fancy, just a proper pub. Was made to feel very welcome by the Landlord and all the regulars. Can't wait to go in when its full of hockey players ;)

Honest, down-to-earth local for people who like chatting to strangers rather than enduring a barrage of television. Brian The Landlord and Roy The Fish, an almost-daily regular, are a great double act -- but they often insist on you drinking beyond your limit. Take everything with a pinch of salt -- and don't forget your sense of humour.
chopemoff - 7 Aug 2005 19:02
Not smart. Not sophisticated. Just a good boozer. Landlord knows exactly how to run the business. If that wasn't enough... its often full of hockey players...

I agree with Dan, proper local. Not much to look at but definitley a world away from the city.

Once went for a quick drink and was "locked-in" without realising, it can't get much better.
Dr_Cirrohsis - 14 Jun 2005 11:48
Proper little local. Landlord a good bloke and the IPA is good. Pool, decent CD jukebox and no city boys. I like it (and I'm a city boy).
