No surprise as they only seemed to open when they felt like it, Waiting to see what it turns into now.

Bright. Blonde wood and light colours everywhere. Very smokey... not the sort of place to be if you're feeling a bit worse for wear. Full of attractive women, and therefore also full of pretentious pricks. Ho-hum.

This put is now a trendy wine bar.

It's called Coles after the family that have bought it. The interior has been stripped and replace in the last month, the only thing that survives is the Edith Cavell glass portrait that has been put back in the window.

My opinion of the Edith is a little similar to my view of Britney Spears: sometimes I want to throttle it with a cord of barbwire and other times I`d quite happily spend an entire week getting to know its assets (boom, boom).

Seriously though, there is plenty I should like about the Edith - its in a nice location at the better end of Norwichs Tombeland party area, has a decent booze selection and its small shape certainly gives a bit of character (less than 40 could fit in at a squeeze to its rectangular room). And when its empty during a slow week day or a placid Saturday, the Edith has the right mix of comfy chairs and a good view across the cobbled streets to make it a pleasurable stop off point.

But then it`s the edges of the Edith`s character that on certain occasions let it down. Its clientele can be a little unappealing, especially on a weekend night when a fair number of young and punchable muppets who have usually been turned away from the local spoons (oh yes, those kind of people) end up congregating and singing and spitting inside its boxish interior. And unfortunately its one of those places that tries a little too hard to be an oldie pub, which always irritates.

As I said sometimes you can forget these annoyances and other times you simply cant so I can only give the Edith an average 6/10.

Okay so this review is 10 years out of date, but I was with a group of people asked not to return because one of us was Asian, and they didn't like his sort there.

Regarding the the coments of Miss Seager I believe her to be a legendary drinker in the fine city of Norwich and a lady of great taste. Her coments should be taken to heart so as to improve the proffits of this small but friendly establishment. Kind regards, Ric.
