please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Its now called (The Coach House) At last its gone back too being a proper Pub with Sky Sports & Real Ale. Plus it was actually full of customers instead of empty like it always was before. The builders were still doing alterations when I went in so I will call in later in a few weeks too see how much its improved and update Review but its at least 10 times beter than before.

I went here for new years eve and had the most awful night ever.
I paid 25 for an advance ticket to find people were paying 10 on the door -understandabley I wanted to speak to the manager to see why I had paid more and was treated like sh*t.
He was repetively rude, physically aggressive and lacked no managerial/people skills when I wanted my money back. He took 30 out of his wallet and THREW it at me!?! He told me I was the rudest, nastiest person he had ever met. This was at the start of the night so I hadnt had much to drink. I am a 5ft tall petite woman and was in no way nasty nor aggressive. I think his behaviour was just abismal. He is supposed to represent the brewery and lead a good example to his staff, but clearly this is not the case. His managerial skills are more matched to a prison officer than running a pub. Wouldnt recommend to my worst enemy.

This seems to be a nice Femail frendly Bar with good choice of wine thats Not too bad during the day time or in the early evening after work but it dose tend to get full of absolute Plonkers later in the evenings especilly with all the youger crowed that go to tank up on cheap booze & spirits in wetherspoons then come in here to show off.

You're both right tuppence & strongers the staff at this pub must think us BITE contributors are really stupid,i mean 6 people joining the site in the space of 3 days and only giving the one glowing review to the same pub.YOU SUN STAFF ARE A BUNCH OF SADDOES !

Being the best bar in Southgate isn't difficult, considering every pub in the area is rank.

Suffice to say I get a bit suspicious when a place feels it needs to get members of staff to sign up under different names on BITE to drum up a bit of free publicity. It's the kind of thing which might put me off going to a place.

Its amazing how many people have spent a night in this place and decided that it is so good that they felt they had to sign up to BITE and post one review!

Well anyway, I wandered into here one evening last week at 20.30ish and thought that it was quite a nice place. I found it to be clean and airy with nice wicker chairs, sofas and high tables. The toilet was very clean and there is a dance floor to the rear of the bar to bop away to the house music. There is some outside seating albeit on the high street, but I think that it has been decked out well. The barmaid was friendly and polite and I didnt notice it being any more expensive than a lot of pubs in the area

A few bog standard lagers were on offer along with a couple of premiums and Guinness

It has obviously been designed for the younger generation and I thought that there was a good vibe (although I dont know what it is like when all of the pubs empty out). I like my old fashioned boozers, but I also like to have a dance and a laugh every now and again and this place would do for me as long as it doesnt fill up with little scrotes.

Was there last saturday night, great service despite the small bar. It may not be cheap but at the end of the night who really cares about the extra 5 quid over 5 drinks to be in a nice bar with a nice crowd. Definitely recommend.

I went to the Sun Lounge for some food and drinks with some mates and was really impressed by the quality food and service.

We didn't need to spend too much money to be in a place that's better than anything else around.

Will definitely be going again!

This a quality addition to southgate. The staff were nice and friendly. Went there for a few drinks after work on friday with my staff. We got table service all night and didn't have to go to the bar once. Definately recomend it and will be going back to try the food when the full menu comes out next week.

Man i remeber when this used to be the booze -ye old rising sun. Now its very very nice. Before it was rank, now its pretty cool, nice decore, good service, food nice but not the best of menus [but was told they got new menu coming in soon, and that should be good].
The best bar in southgate. Nothing else like that.

Alesonly obviously should stick to his sort of bar because he wouldn't know class if it hit.
Thank god that someone has put in place a decent bar in Southgate, everything from the decoration to the music was class.
Tried it on Thursday with a few work friends and had to go back on Saturday with the Missus, She was just as impressed as me.
Definitely will be my new Local!!

Tried this place out for the first time last Saturday and I was really impressed. It looks amazing and from the door staff to the bar staff, everyone was very friendly and efficient, which makes a pleasant change these days.
Also, they told me that they have a specific door policy and don't let just anybody in. On the night I was there, there was a really good dj on, people were dancing and the atmosphere was really great - very relaxed and sophisticated - just what we needed in Southgate, in my opinion!
They were only offering a temporary "tasting" menu and I was told that a new full menu was being introduced shortly, so I will definitely be back to try it, because the pasta I did have was lovely.

Passed by here on Saturday, no sign of life at this pub at the moment.

Good to hear the place has a new manager, I guess that means I'm not barred anymore.

Logan, the previous gaffer and poster of the first two comments, was just about the most objectionable, obnoxious, up-his-own-arse little shit I ever had the misfortune to meet.
big_andy - 30 Jun 2006 13:54
Perhaps if you want cheap snacks and luminous chemically conceived shots then you might like it. But for me it made a poor fist of being a pub.

Great pub with excellent atmosphere. Fantastic new Manager, Anna who makes everyone feel welcome and has a pool team and regular entertainment. Cant wait til Xmas Eve as they are having a Kylie look-a-like! Really good food, my favourite is the steak and tasty waffles. Must visit!
