First visit to Hereford and this was the 3rd pub I frequented during the day. As i was in town for the football i meet a couple of pals who had kids with them so this place and it's garden area was perfect.

the pub itself is large and fairly soulless but it served a purpose for me and my pals so nothing to complain about.

2 ales on draught of which i had a couple of pints of Wye Valley bitter and it was kept just fine.

Cannot comment on the food, the garden area and other punters were fine.

I COMPLAINED ABOUT A MEMBER OF STAFF WHOSE ATTITUDE TO ME ASKING HER POLITELY TO FILL MY GLASS AS IT WAS JUST OVER HALF FULL (LARGE LATTE) WAS NOT PROFFESSIONAL. THE MANAGER WAS VERY RUDE AND CAME OUT TO THE OUTSIDE AREA WHERE I WAS SAT WITH A FRIEND AND WAS VERY LOUD AND AGGRESSIVE. I HOW EVER AM PLEASED TO SAY REMAINED CALM AND POLITE. WHAT I PITY HE COULD NOT JUST SAY SORRY, OH WELL, PLENTY OF OTHER PLACES IN HEREFORD TO HAVE MY PARTY, LIKE THE MERTON HOTEL.

Wye Valley bitter @ 1.85 per pint & Wells Bombardier @ 2.00 per pint unfortunately non available - beer garden looks okay

Huge city centre pub well and truly "on the circuit" but large enough to cope with the crowds. Very attractive outdoor area as well. The cask beers (sometimes Wye Valley, sometimes just Bombardire) are surprisingly well kept.

Been away for five years and revisiting Hfd pubs. The Imperial still hasn't changed. Siulless, crap pub full of middle aged circuit drinkers. In answer to people comments on my opinions. they are mine, and are honest. I don;t slag off every pub and am looking for improvements. For instance. the Exchange has improved 100% in the time I have been away, The Lich has alos,, The barrels is one of the best pubs in the country and even Manhattans is almost good, while The Imp, despite a facelift is still exactly the same - crap.

Good pub run by a well experienced team. Large outdoor area which is one of the best in town. Very busy food as well!!

Visited on a Stag weekend - I think they have just re-launched as they were handing-out free drinks vouchers. Very impressed really good interior and a superb rear covered outside area with wood-buring fire and stage. Good staff and will definitely visit again

Excellent pub to be in , in the evening before you hit a club.Only snag is the long wait to get served and the pricey drinks. Best bet is put a small bottle of vodka in your bag !!

In the daytime the food is okay, same as any other pub grub, nothing special but filling.Staff need to spend more time serving people than standing in the bar mirror checking themselves out or giggling with their workmates.

Other than that The 'IMP' is a fantastic evening pub to get pissed in.

Would say food is on a par with Wetherspoons, reasonably priced pub grub- nothing earth shattering. Whenever I've eaten there for lunch I don't feel like I've been kept waiting too long.

Outside decked area is wicked in the summer.

I remember when it first opened after the refit in 03/04- unfortunately since then there are some signs of wear and tear and the ladies toilet doors look a bit trashed from the replacement bolts. A bloke must have designed those toilets because you can hardly move in the cubicles because they left no room for the Sani bins, is ridiculous god help you if youve got mobility problems.

Is busy in the evening, is used as a watering hole before clubbers disappear off elsewhere. Agree with previous posters about the staff needing to change their attitude. It seems they prefer to serve the customers the like the look of over the poor soles who've been stood there for ages.

homerj & jimbo This is hereford, what exactly are you expecting? Chinawhite? This is not London.. Imperial overall is not a bad pub it has its moments, the foods pretty good its busy all week especially on the weekends.
its got good music but a small dancefloor.come in here quite a bit, downside- some of the barstaff need to adjust their attitudes!

I would suggest that the previous comment was made by the landlord (?)

Spent our time on the patio area in the imp on saturday, due to smoking (Tony Blair = c%@t) Adequate facilities have been provided and it was a nice day anyway. I sure aint going to give up because the government is trying to force me to. What if the PM smoked, hmmmm.... Yet another good couple of drinks in the imp, cheers.

The imp is a really nice pub, with a large patio area, good food, good beer (although a little expensive) and friendly staff. Ive never had a bad night in here so far, which is more than i can say for JD's up the road. JD's is a woeful place, full to the brim with chavs and degenerative pikey scum. Avoid like the plague!!! Also, the bouncer suffers from short man syndrome.

A typical Hereford pub - visit Hereford for a nostalgic 1970's feel. The rest of the country has so left Hereford behind!! The lager in this pub is dreadful, the drinks oevrpriced (except lager/bitter but that goes from 1.80 to 2.50 at 7pm - WHY? it's the same vile stuff!)and the food is carried (uncovered) from the kitchen right through the smoking area to the non-smoking eating area!!!! A run-of-the-mill drab pub

Since "The Imperial" became just another in a long line of dull, unadventurous and characterless chain pubs, both the atmosphere and integrity of patron has gone down the rather disgusting toilets they have there. The pub was always full of scum bag piss heads in the past - social security scroungers who somehow still find the money to be in the pub each day - a problem that a number of Hereford pubs suffer from. And with its refurbishments, the place is more attractive to drink in, but the pissheads still remain. Miserable bar staff, and some real hardfaced girls to boot, make this an interesting if vile drinking experience.

During the day is great with some of the best pub grub in Hereford. During the night though the posters below aren't wrong...
smeg_head - 20 Feb 2006 01:28
For once i will agree with Jimbo and Homerj. This pub is absolutely desperate! Full of middle-aged tossers who are up themselves. Located next to saxty's, the two go together to form Herefords 'older generation' drinking holes.
Please avoid this pub, i recomend going over the road to the exchange
Powers - 24 Oct 2005 21:13
I agree with anon, seems to me if you look around the comments on other pubs in hereford made by jimbo and homerj nothing would please them! There's nothing wrong with the Imp and the same goes for most of the other pubs they've slated!
anonymous - 30 Jun 2005 01:30
Full of wannabes and coke heads, upstairs only holds 150 and is crap anyway. One of the most beautiful barmaids in history tho...but she very very very rarely works =0( I still drink in this pub but only due to a lack of decent drinking holes in the town centre. Its a Baracuda pub and is trying to appeal to 2 different crowds...your 18-30 crowd and your retired pissheads.....when they overlap eachother on a weekend it makes for interesting viewing..try popping in about 6:30 on a Friday or 3 onwards on a Saturday!
homerj - 3 Jun 2005 17:12
The Imperial is a very friendly pub, staff are excellent except the german one!

Friday 22nd of october, AburningRuin(local band) will be playing and if ur in to rock/metal then it'll be a great night!
adam - 20 Sep 2004 17:02
No I don't. The Barrels is excellent. The Heart of Oak's not bad, The King's fee is one of the best Weatherspoon's I have been in, The Lich is not as good as it was, but still good. The Spread is a good pub. The truth is that so many of Hereford's pubs are dire on any measurement scale.
Jim - 15 Aug 2004 21:08
jimbo smith, says a bad word about everypub in hereford! the imperial is good. large and usually busy especially on thurs, fri, and sat. capacity fits 500 upstairs ive been told.
anonymous - 3 Jun 2004 16:58
Waste of time. Hereford's answer to a circuit pub. Groups of middle aged circuit drinkers looking for their lost youth (And a clean shirt)
Jimbo Smith - 7 May 2004 18:48
Great pub, very big, very busy, very friendly! Has a small night clubabove it which has some really good nights.
