This old bar (wasn't really a pub !!) has now become a furniture and electrical store for The British Heart Foundation.

CLOSED. You could try the new Tesco (the 12th in Reading !!) next door. No doubt they will be happy to flog you dirt cheap beer so that you can swig at home or in the street and help to close down more of our pubs !!!!!!

No real ale.
Passing_By - 11 Jul 2010 18:37
Still appears to be closed.

Appears to be shut.

Is John Smith's not cask ale? No it is not and this is not the place for ale, a place for a bit of nightlife.

Large pub with an island bar that I imagine gets full on a Friday and Saturday night. Not the most pleasant of places, a bit run down, no real ale and disinterested staff. Good prices though.

honest review... rough as sandpaper inside. drinks are very reasonable in price. depends what surroundings you want to drink in? If your 18 - 24 then start here on a night out for cheap drinks. if your older start here in the day and dont tell the missis when you return home.

Apparently the local CAMRA group got the Council to tell them to remove part of the outside sign that read 'serves cask ales' under Trades Descriptions. A little fact for you...

very unfriendly female staff, particually the manger

Well the staff are quick and efficient , food was nice and good selection of drinks ! sport on all the time, prices ok ,the place to be to watch big sporting events aside from walkabout all in all a nice place to go for a beer !

Only one thing to say don't go in walk around the corner and down the road a little and go to a decent pub with great staff, good beer, pool table, jukebox, its called the BUTLERS

What can I say, its vile. Again full of the ne'er do wells of Reading, standing around with their plastic bags from the Pound Shop brimming with the weekly shopping.During the day its ok for a quick, and I mean quick, pint. Service is terrible, in fact I'm convinced the staff are trained to keep you waiting as long as possible. And yes, it turns into Snog-a-Dog Night once the Sun sets romantically over the Broad St Mall opposite. Mind you, one good thing for their clientele, the bookmakers is on one side and the pawn shop is on the other, so when needs must, regulars can pawn their sovereign rings for the next round.

Agree with all comments. I didn't touch the food but my mate seemed to enjoy his gammon.

Food awful. Service okay. Not bad if you want cheap drinks and to watch the footie although when you go downstairs to the toilets, it stinks of urine.

Is it really full of chavs?! Appears to be full of youngish people having a good time, not to say older people are not welcome. Okay so there is no real ale here, but there is Guinness... Or Lager! All in all seemed alright but didnt try it for very long
aleman - 26 Nov 2006 02:48
Wetherspoons without the ale. Don't bother, it's dire.
Quinno - 14 Sep 2006 00:49
Well what can one say; cheap prices attract cheap people. Another Reading pub that has fallen prey to the giro hordes. Give us your scroungers, your poor, your weak of mind and I give you; The Orange House!

Well, well, well! This pub used to be awful!! Apparantley under new management now and it shows! A really pleasant atmostphere, happy polite staff (who are probably the quickest servers in Reading!) And who can forget that it's got the cheapest beer anywhere! Shame it's covered in scaffolding or I'm sure it would be a lot busier. Definately one to check out!

Cheap 'n' cheerful.
Narrowly missed being destroyed by fire in the adjoining buildings last weekend.

This place has a good and dark side. Good side is that it's very much a day pub so come in and drink a few hours away on the cheap whilst playing pool with Sky Sports News on the big screen in the background whilst watching the poor working schmucks in their suits running back to the office to lick the boss' arsehole. After the sun sets it forms a much darker shape. Anyone who remembers Chicago's knows wot i mean=middle aged slappers with beer belly's, tattoos, belly rings and flabby bingo wing arms trying to snare you.
