Recently closed down. Good thing too! the place had attitude and beside it was just dead compared to how it used to be some years back. Had many a good nights here in 2002-2003.

Apparently this pub is going to become a Pizza Express. Bad times! I quite liked this place.

Great Pub - if you enjoy rude and aggressive bar staff. Was in their last night with friends one of whom was slightly tipsy. Kicked us all out in the most obnoxious way although there was no bad behaviour on our part. No wonder the place is empty most of the time. AVOID.

seems to have been recently refurbished making it one of the nicer pub decors in croydon. three different ales on tap and not a bad wine list. other customers didn't seem too offensive (this is croydon remember). staff were fine. didn't try the food.

This is a large Greene King pub situated right in the middle of Croydon town centre. The beer selection has, in the past, comprised only of the standard Greene King ales, but recently I have seen some guest ales making an appearance.
There is plenty of seating and the pub has a partition in the middle which means the rear end can be closed off for live music or private functions. There is a regular Big Band Jazz night on Mondays and rock music is a popular and frequent staple of the entertainment roster too.

The Brief is one of the new style of upmarket Greene King bars. It has a nice laid back feel with some comfortable seating and plasma TV's showing sport. Raised area at the back for busy times. Beers included Hydes Jekylls Gold and Bath Gem.

NOT BAD FOR CROYDON

Very reasonable environment and prices for a town centre pub. Lots of hand pumps, but only Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen were on.

it's turned into a much better place than 6 months ago...

less chavs, less trouble, more alternative people, live music, chilled atmosphere - the other night there was even candles on the tables, whatever next haha!!

in the last 2 months i've seen ed tudorpole (crystal maze / tenpole tudor), sigue sigue sputnik and a host of excellent metal, punk, rock and indie bands...

but, then again, i like drinking...

recommended:)

How can this pub expect people to pay 6 quid to get in to seee some unknown bands??

I had a really great time here yesterday afternoon, the atmosphere was very friendly and so were several young lady customers...

Good Luck to peafish cos this place is a dive. They say its been re done but someone seems to have forgotten about the bar. Service is too poor to even contemplate putting into words. Don't ever go there!

Appalling place. Stupid dress code, rude staff, poor beer range. Avoid.

Ok, this pub did go downhill for a long time and i see its had some bad reviews..BUT, its now under new management, the manager seems a decent guy, the staff are all so friendly and helpfull, and seems to have sorted its self out well i recken. Theres a new area at the back now with a dancefloor and dj stand..and i would recommend anyone going there, either for a pleasent drink and a nice lunch during the day, or somewhere to get your juices flowing before hitting the clubs. My friend also works there and i know recently they had a mystery customer, who gave the pub 100% on review, so cant be all that bad now! Also they are starting to do homemade sunday roasts..it wouldnt hurt to have a look and see what you think :o)

Awful place. Door staff can be seriously rude at drinking up time and manageress is not the nicest person in the world to say the least. Lager tastes of tomato ketchup 1/2 the time as well.

Went here last night. I think someone had forgotten to switch the heating on, because it was very cold and everyone was sat around shivering wearing coats and scarves.

I generally don't like Croydon pubs (more because of the clientele than anything else), but this place is great for a late afternoon beer. Plenty of sofas and chairs, and the place is always well presented.

Haven't been here in the evening for a long time, but I suspect it's much the same as any other Croydon pub.

alright for drinks and food. Staff have an attitude as its suppposed to stop serving food at 7 but at half six, my friend wanted to order a burger and the rude women behind the bar said no more food-like it was so hard to walk over the till, type in what we wanted+serve it. We'll spend our money elsewhere thanks!

Smart place. Good place to meet and have a few drinks before going clubbing. Reasonably priced

Was once a great start off point on a Friday night but have had a number of incidents where friends of mine have had hassle from rude doorstaff so choose to avoid as management dont seem interested when you complain!
Croydon Lag - 6 Sep 2004 15:01
A place to get a few pints down your neck before going clubbing. Everything about it is dull, dull, dull.
Boozywoozy - 3 Sep 2004 13:00
Full of Gary's and attitude! Crap!
