Waitrose opened just this week

And now that facade has gone as well. And the cleared site, as predicted, is advertising the opening of a Waitrose supermarket and a Travelodge hotel.
pub_aficianado - 24 Nov 2011 19:35
Indeed, now demolished. Apart from the facade. Was it suitably historic?
pub_aficianado - 14 Nov 2011 15:26
Due to be demolished. Plans instead are for a hotel and a Waitrose supermarket.
pub_aficianado - 18 Dec 2010 16:11
Now closed.

Used to drink here years ago but would not be seen dead in here now. It looked to be closed down recently when I went past - needs to be re-invented AGAIN. Potentially the best pub in Sidcup (not much competition I realise).

Agree with other comments. Used to drink here all the time when it was "the black horse" Great pub it was then. Thought it went downhill after the first refurb. This place is barely recognisable as the place I used to drink in back in the day. Indian Restaurant/Pub hmmmmmm not the best concept on the planet. Last time I was here there were 4 other people in the place....Cannot believe they are going to stay in business much longer

This must be the worst pub in the country. It would be great if the place was shut-down but that would result in all the morons who drink there going to other pubs and spoiling them. The Black Horse/Blue Rose makes the Metro Bar look good and that is saying something!

The pub had changed dramatically and is now know as The Blackhorse once again. The new staff have removed one of the bars to include an Indian restaurant. unfortunately Sidcup high st already has several and the best is located opposite. the pool tables have gone but a big screen has just been put in place. If you would to hear the most obnoxious bunch of labourers shouting you C*** You F**King n C*nt all night and then having to endure "Pllllllease reaaaaash ME let me go-ah" on the jukebox all night, then this is your idea of heaven. Nice pub, nice staff, gone to Hell.

My girlfriend paid a visit here lat night (Jan 11th) with a friend and reported to me that the changes in this pub are quite dramatic in terms of the layout, dcor etc since its change from a basic boozer to an Indian restaurant/bar, but trouble is most definitely still in the air. Apparently, a fight broke out between two blokes and one ended up on the floor being kicked in the head. The Indians in charge seemingly had no idea what to do and it was chaos. On the few visits I made here I found it to be okay (see my review further down), but its obviously worsened! Im interested to see how things have changed, but not to so sure if Ill be checking it out anytime son.

They have changed back to the Black Horse and have created a brand new, elegant look.. New decor, furniture and restaurant menu - It has become a friendlier pub now and the 'trouble' seems to have gone.. About time we had somewhere nice to drink and eat in Sidcup...

New owners really making a go of the Indian food which is by all accounts very good. Plenty of parking, disabled ramp access to rear, disabled loo with radar key, nice large comfy sofas in quiet area, sky tv so keeps the footie fans happy. I would say the atmosphere has improved immensely and a slightly quieter and more refined crowd is being ushed in, hopefully once all the lowts have been usher down the Hogs Head this pub will reign supreme in Sidcup. Mind you unfortunately the area is going down hill rapidly.

I've been going to this pub again since December. Didnt like it too much before, but now a new couple have bought the pub and it is amazing the changes that have happened. The new Indian restaurant is the best in Sidcup and not 'ugh' as 'Nrm' mentioned. How can anyone not like a curry with their pint - and to have it all under one roof is great. I also had a do in their function room and the service and food was wonderful. It is nice to see the owners there often and the atmosphere has definitely improved..Has also got busier than it used to be. If you havent been for a while or at all I strongly advise you try it out !!
Well done Blue Rose and to Kay and Priya !

Not residing in Sidcup, this was never going to be a local, but nevertheless, I've paid a visit or two.

The pub is split into two sections. A quiet one without the obligatory jukebox, pool table etc and another smaller section, with all these things. I remember them having a fantastic jukebox, but in all honesty, not a lot else. The pub was only ever half full when I was there and while that suites you at times, sometimes everyone likes a bit of an atmosphere.

If I remember rightly, the beer is a little pricey, but they had Budweiser. Whether you like the lager or not, thats rare and reckon the pub deserves an extra point for that.

All in all, The Blue Rose isn't a bad pub; it's just not a great one either.

I have been in the rose a few times and we all know Sidcup isn;t a very good place to drink, but i do like the Rose its a great pub and has great bar staff and lovely comfy sofas! was in on the 29th dec having a beer with a few friends there was a female in the pub (would like to call her a lady but lady is not the right word) the bar staff are great people but i think they should have not have let her buy anymore drinks as it was clear that she was pissed!!!
unfortunately they did and i was very shocked to see this woman try to put her glass in a face of a lady who was sitting with friends having a meal , the poor lady was doing nothing wrong just sitting chating to her friends , she was a lucky lady as far as i could see she was not hurt but it would have been a different story if the bar staff had not jumped in and got the woman out of the pub or had stopped her from buying more drinks when it was clear she was drunk . its a great pub with great staff but is it worth someones face to put a few in the till

Recently changed hands again, to a wonderful couple. Very freindly, food is now fantastic, home cooked by the chef and the landlord. May i recommend the curry!!
Please, anyone who has not visited in a while, give this place another chance and see for yourself what a wonderful job Roy and Linda are doing with the place, it is wonderful to have some new faces in the pub, and to see what potential the place has in the right hands.

Only been in at lunchtimes, but seems a friendly and quiet venue. Looks like it has been refurbished, but they've done a good job, lots of wood and nice furniture, like an upmarket Hogshead. By the way Juliet, it's spelt Sacrilege.

Spent a good year or so drinking in the Black Horse, way back in '93.

Highlights included the best pint of Fosters ever pulled, mammoth Vodka sessions, a very loud jukebox and Marie the barmaid. And the Ruxley Pigs (wonder where they are now?).

Have been in a couple of times since those heady days and am disapointed to find that it has become quite "trendy", and the name change??? Why, oh, why??!! A great shame as this was a cosy and friendly boozer, with some "interesting" punters!!!
Rob - 2 Feb 2004 14:34
Why did they change the name - sacrilidge!
Juliet - 13 Jan 2004 23:39
Used to be the Black Horse and is the oldest pub in Sidcup.
