Disappointing visit on a sat lunchtime - seems like a pub where the owner has said lets get on the gastro bandwagon and has had a lot of money spent upgrading throughout but clearly this is all the owner bothered with. The food was well presented but absolutely tasteless e.g. piri piri children had no piri piri in it at all, chicken was like rubber. Pork belly was microwaved and soggy and no crispiness at all so basically lower level old style pub grub despite the marketing, pricing and presentation suggesting much more. The service seem to struggle with two boys seeming to run the place confused with whether to serve at the bar or wait on tables. the place got more popular as the lunchtime peak arrived so clearly it must stand out in the local area but for how it is marketed, it is very disappointing.

Wonderful gastro-pub type of place- a stark difference to the type of place it used to be which I wouldn't have touched with a barge-pole!.
Had an amazing meal with great service. All the food is fresh (which seems to be a rareity in the area), we could have sat there all evening and just enjoyed the atmosphere.
We didn't even realise the placed had changed until someone I knew had been there and told me about it. A well-kept secret!

The 'New' Goffs Oak is a huge improvement on the old Ember Inn, it now serves fresh food and has staff that really care. I was really impressed with my meal and highly reccomend this pub to anyone from a special occasion, to a quick lunch it will cater for your needs. The new owners seem to have got it right this time, long may it continue.

This pub has actually improved in recent months due to good staff and managers. Since the new guy has taken over, the food has been better and the whole atmosphere in the place has improved. There's no longer any trouble makers in the pub and everybody has a laugh in there.

Fair enough fridays are really busy in there in the evening but the staff do a great job of putting up with all the drunkards that go in there sometimes and if there's ever any trouble they've dealt with it. I'm a regular to this pub and would reccomend it to anyone. Ignore past reviews and give it a try!

Judging by how slowly everyone moves behind the bar, I think your Grandmother might be working there!

Does anyone have a photo of this pub? May grandmother was born there in 1900 and I would love to know more about it.

This pub has been modernised & is a shadow of it's former self. Inadequate staffing means long waiting time to be served & it has had a succession of temporary managers in recent times. Menu seems attractive but food quality is poor. Locals wish Ember Inns would sell it to someone who would staff & run it properly. The only upside is a strict "no children" rule

Ember Inns Pub, ie: decent quality chain pub serving standard meals.
