The kind of place that sensible people cross Parliament Street to AVOID

Tried to get in to this dump a few nights ago, but was told that because I was wearing a pair of reebok boots I could not get in - however, my friends (who DID get in) informed me that a group of asian lads were in there wearing trainers. Clearly, being a respectable white 40 year old I was going to go in there wreck the joint - I would like to ask the doormen why they are applying different dress standards to different people ? Or is it just that they are scared of being accused of racism ?

alright place doormen very accomadating when negotiating entrance fee!!!! cheesy tunes, small dance floor ideal really!!
MEDUSSA - 25 Jul 2005 08:05
must admit best doormen in Nottingham second 2nd the old frank on the variety door dance floor takes up a lot of space when there's just a few dancers

it needs more theme night, like ska and classical music. More food and less roses being pushed onto you!

fantastic looking venue, cheesey tunes to sing along too, bit small. Some dodgey bloke always there trying to seduce the hen parties with his dancing - too funny for words.
Nick - 10 Nov 2004 16:20
the doormen are the best in nottingham

Flares on entrance is a wicked pub,but as you make your way tot the bar you start to realise that its a tight squeeze,so after you have your drink you can end up always being in the way, apart from that it great because your always close to someone to talk too.
Nigel - 26 Jun 2004 21:44
Great if you're into that sort of thing - which I am! Although a bit overrun with hen parties, there's a really good atmosphere and music and decor at its cheesiest best!

Ash - 29 Mar 2004 12:41
It is a great bar. If you don't like that kinda thing then don't go, but it is well worth going to. Just go before you have to pay, and have fun!
Jake - 2 Mar 2004 20:20
No where are u ppl from? wel i think its a wicked bar, it always cheerful and it aint moneygrabbing and its definately different, maybe it does get crowded at times but which pub doesnt?!
helen - 8 Jan 2004 20:39
To begin with Rob, it's Flares, not Flairs, and to everyone who puts it down why do you go there and spend your hard earned money there. If you don't like it, stay away, they are loads of places to drink in Nottingham
Steve - 22 Dec 2003 14:14
Edwards was bad enough, but now its changed to Flares is all sickly looking and very tacky. You even have to pay to get in, and the staff are as bad as ever. Seems to be getting the annoying crowd that normally drink in Long Island. Still has the same awful manager!
Sarah - 22 Oct 2003 14:25
total bad service totally bad music and tacky design now its changed to flairs
rob - 17 Oct 2003 15:15
poor pub poor service crap music got even worse since change of name to flairs
rob - 17 Oct 2003 15:12
Tacky very expensive, dreadful music, as now been closed down and replaced by an even more tacky pub called Flares the only saving grace are the doorstaff or are friendly and helpful.
Ian - 17 Oct 2003 15:06
This pub is awful! The staff are unfriendly and you always have to wait ages to be served. You get some real townie types and scum in Edwards, I hate this place, the drinks are expensive too!
Sally - 20 Aug 2003 14:26
The doormen are always polite, courtious and friendly. It can be very busy if you hit at at the wrong time but as biarre as it seems you can always get served a lot quicker on the smaller bar upstairs than the one downstairs even if they are heaving with customers. Drinks prices are middle of the road and a good meeting point for people above the age of 25. The reason it is the one drink and move on kind of place is how long it takes to get served so try buying more than one when you do get served.

I'm not sure about the best pub in nottm, but i door agree about the doormen. always busy but its a one drink and move on kind of pub
Steve - 21 May 2003 12:04

chris - 25 Apr 2003 12:49
