Thinking of moving to the area and this is the closest pub. Decent enough pint of Young's and got chatting to a friendly local straight off. Did not try the food but priced were reasonable. Not a "proper" pub, big open bar like a Spoons, but seems OK and I will be back.

go to this pub if you want a punch in the face and the owner ignores it

Now called the William Bourne. Was good, then went awful awful awful. New landlord and landlady team this year have turned the place around. Now a great place to drink and eat. Easily the best pub in the 'Chessington North' area. A fantastic result to have a boozer run so professionally and in such a customer friendly manner - I really hope they stay!

I am writing because i am really disappointed that i came to this pub on saturday the 28th january for a karaoke with a few friends (as it was advertised all week) to find that no one showed up. Asked staff members if it was going ahead but they didnt seem to know themselves and the manageress was not available. I also like to know if anyone can tell me what has happened to the quiz that used to be on every week as there hasn't been one for several months as i used to really enjoy coming to this. it would be much appreciated if you can get back to me on these points.

This pub is now called the Sir William Bourne.

On a sunny Derby weekend visit it was fairly busy.

Drinks were inexpensive. Food offers looked good. Close to Wetherspoons on cost but much cleaner than a Wetherspoon. Outdoor garden well kept. Good for kids.

There is darts and pool and a big TV at one end inside.

Customers? Proles - close cut hair, gold chains etc. but not belligerent or aggressive.

OK for a drink though not a place I would seek out.

Years ago we used to visit this pub regularly. It had real ale, good food and a good landlord. When he left, it started a downhill run. Ownership changed, there were makeovers but, the downhill run continued. Some staff tried really hard and still do in an attempt to make it a nice place. There is real ale back there. Sadly, it is a pub that attracts the wrong people - perhaps it is because it aims at the lower end of the food market price wise. I was in the other night for a quite drink and all I heard was a load of f***** swearing coupled with, aggressive behaviour. It was very unpleasant and very, very sad.

Chavland..........Kids with spots trying to be men but failing dismally. Poor atmosphere, bad pub in a bad part of town unfortunately. Please close it down.

Not been in this pub for years but I had a callout round the corner so gave it a try. Driving so had a lime and water but what a great lunch, large portion and good value.

I went to this pub this evening as a treat for my dad for father's day what a mistake that was.

The food was awful, our steak was definitely dead. There were hardly any chips and the sausages had been deep fried and were inedible. The staff also didn't seem to want to serve you unless you were a local, kept walking past me to serve regulars despite me standing there for 10 minutes!

I certainly would not recommend this pub and will not be eating there again.

Asked both the people who should have been training me, "dont we have to wash our hands?" got told by both of them "I wouldnt worry about that!"

If you work behind the bar somethings are common place, touch your hair, wash your hands, handle glasses filled with slops loading a dishwahser, wash your hands.. Customers in the resurant do not want someone elses backwash over your hands whilst you carry their food to their table with your fingers holding their plate!

Got two days of work, served loads of punter with glasses fresh from the dishwasher, still nice and WARM.. a cardinal SIN if your a bartender, you never give someone a drink from a warm glass, as I was on training I waited with baited breath for someone, anyone to tell me what I was doing wrong, never heard a word... Manager gave me the impression I was covering for someone off sick, got me in told me how great I was then laid me off.. If I don't get paid two words.. Industrial Tribunal!
McDicken - 18 Dec 2008 14:24
I was the only person behind the *jump* who washed his hands!

BonesGate, is a play on words, the original founder of the pub was known as william bourne which got abbreviated to bones (bournes)-gate and it has a stream running along side it by the same name. Go here if you like crap service, poor hygiene and don't expect to be treated seriously! & from an ex-member of staff who used to work in a nightclub / pub that's really saying something!
McDicken - 18 Dec 2008 13:15
Worked here for two days, told a white lie, said I hadn't been in the pub trade for six years knowing my ex-manager wouldn't give me a glowing reference, knowing I had walked out one night when the bar was heaving! they took 23k that night and I helped!

Got the job got told by pub manager I'll call you to sort out more hours after two days work, never got the phone call.

I can see how it could be a chavarama, but when I went there one weekday lunchtime I found it quite friendly. The place is a bit formulaic but - imagine this, the pub world - every beer had a price on it, in big numbers. I haven't seen that before and it made the place feel honest and good value - and some beers really were very good value. Thumbs up for that reason alone.

Back on the market, not for the feint hearted. Very intimidating atmosphere. Don't bother if you aren't local
