user reviews of the Fat Controller, Harrow

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

RIP - prices were too high when opposite the Moon on the Hill. Great site for a pub with some nice rooms. Hope it reopens as a Pub or Restaurant.
gazzo4u - 30 Dec 2010 14:50
Pub is closed.
Anybody know if it is a permanent closure?

Judging by the look of it, it looks like curtains

If your want a pub in harrow that your get a seat in on the weekend, get cheap drinks and good music at a reasonable volume then this is it!,its nothing amazing, but this is harrow so what do you exspect the place it a dump, but that aside, fatties is ok,staff are ok to,and they are doing thai food now.
it used to be a shit hole full of chavs, playing very loud house and garage music, but its not bad at all now!
Trojan_1 - 26 Nov 2009 21:30
Just moved to Harrow and I'm on the lookout for a new local and I think "Fatties" might be it. Interesting decor, cheap drinks and reasonable staff. Looking forward to catching the football here as there are screens everywhere and Jim the landlord seems like a great guy.
Johnny_Beer - 15 Oct 2009 12:07
spent approximately 17 minutes in here once (just about enough time for me and friends to hastely round the drinks off) and made a dive for the exit..
Don't think I need to go into details to be honest.
kapstien - 9 Oct 2009 17:46
Harrow has no decent pubs. This is a dive that is now dead empty apart from the occasional gang of lurching, drunk teenage chavs. Takes an hour to go to the toilet. Stinks anoll (I mean the pub itself. Not the toilet. Although yeah, that does stink too)
juddlinski - 3 Jul 2009 15:24
Nothing terribly bad about this place except it hasn't changed in over 15 years, since I myself drank there with a fake ID.

It's OK for a high street pub and pretty much what you expect. I wouldn't go out of my way to find this place but if I'm around Harrow and a mate says 'let's go there' I'll pop in.
squizita - 21 Feb 2009 16:56
Rowdy freehouse in the style of a Litten Tree pub. Most of the clientele on the Saturday night I visited were trollied youngsters ordering jugs of bargain cocktails. Four handpumps, only one on, which was a pleasant enough Thwaites' offering. Amazingly, it's probably as good as you'll get in the centre of Harrow.
thomashenry - 22 Dec 2008 13:59
I don't know what the local competition is like, but I didn't really take to this place. Nothing majorly wrong just a bit naff. 5/10
thursdaynight - 28 Nov 2008 16:09
I've watched most of the football season here this year and found myself here when there's no football on. Warm atmosphere and a well-kept place.
JustinNewman - 8 May 2008 11:21
Definatley worth a visit. Difficult to find a pub around here that's not filled with nasy customers. The landlord here obviously has high standards.
RachelPenny - 4 Mar 2008 12:09
Well 'Fat's' is not an awful pub. Didn't realise they were still doing Karaoke on a Saturday(?) since Mark stopped doing it.... The beer here is definitely over-priced, but then, it was the only pub in Harrow I could find that was showing the Heineken cup final a few years ago when Wasps won (Though admittedly it was only the second one I tried...). Basically it's a pub, not a great one in my opinion, but also not a terrible one!
DaDoink - 18 Aug 2006 15:30
I like the Fat Controller! It's a nice pub and has nice people in it which is a refreshing change for Harrow! Some might think it's a bit pricey but I don't mind paying that little more for a decent pint in a decent place where there are CERTAINLY NO CHAV'S with the "wot u lookin' at???" crappy attitude!!
So all in all a good pub!!!
anonymous - 1 Aug 2006 21:38
Staff friendly, enjoyed the end of England beating Pakistan-with the volume up which makes a nice change. The Spitfire was pretty decent too.
BlindTiger - 30 Jul 2006 09:12
"Got barred from here in 1999. Still hold a grudge! Do the toilets still ming? Is the mediocre beer still overpriced? Should rebrand back to the Royal Oak"

I suspect you were barred for being very drunk - the Roayl Oak is now the Rat & Parrot not the Fat Controller. Bless....

Anyway - this pub is great if you are under age, dress like a townie and like the usual flat, headless lager clones and alco-pops. If you want anything different to this - go somewhere else. Try 'The Castle'
tobermoriemoose - 12 May 2006 18:24
Fats is a great place to go for a beer! It clean tidy and full of decent people with a great atmosphere. It just recently got even better as it's finally got it's late night licence on a Friday and Saturday til 1.30 a.m.
The management team and the staff are all friendly and up for a giggle especially on their Fancy Dress Nights which happens once a month! The next on is on 24th March with a Film & TV Characters theme so that should be a laugh!!
Fats also is great for the sports so it's great to watch your fave team with a beer especially on a Sunday afternoon!
And another bonus point due as they are always stocked up on JD!!!
mines_a_jd - 2 Mar 2006 15:13
i love fat controller, i dont go there much now but i've had lots of fun times, i think its the best looking pub in harrow & the beer is the best 2.
Georgiebaby69 - 22 Feb 2006 14:33
I think Fats is a pretty place! The beer is always good as is the food! They now have a late license which gives you more of a choice on a Friday and Saturday instead of the usually ending up in O'Neills or Trinity's. Everytime I've been in I have always found the staff pleasant and polite as they are a cool bunch. The only thing I will point out is that apparently this place is managed by a bloke but I hardly ever see him as everytime i'm in for a beer (or 10!!) it always the female manager working! Which is cool as she's always friendly and always remembers what I drink!

The Fat Controller is definately the best place in Harrow! Everytime I've been in there, which is mostly evenings, the staff have always been friendly and great to have a laugh with especially the dark haired lass with the green eyes! sorry never got her name but i think she is the assistant manager!!
But went in and lo and behold they FINALLY have their late licence so will definately be in for a beer over the weekend!!! And I will make the effort to find out her name!!
anonymous - 26 Jan 2006 19:57
great pub , met Dan there he he ...

zazu62 - 26 Oct 2005 14:52
I think the fat controller is great pub!! stands out amoungst the rest in harrow, that's for sure!!! the new management in there have done wonders to the place as you no longer have everyman and his dog sat at the bar not letting the rest of us through!! the refurb they did looks great, the staff are friendly and the pub always looks clean and tidy!! friday nights are always busy with a good bunch of folk in there DEFINATELY NO CHAV'S!! in all the time i have been drinking there i've never seen any trouble as the bosses JUST DON'T allow it!!
and if you love watching beckham with a beer then this is the place to be as they show all the footie!
all in all this place is great!! great fun great staff great atmosphere! just ashame it doesn't have a late license but by chatting to the bosses it will do soon!! FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!

This pub is great, the people who drink here are over 21 and up for enjoying themselves without marring anyone elses night. Lisseylee stayed a long time in a pub she apparantley hates, mind you maybe she just downed her muticoloured rainbow of drinks, her glass of pee, blue nun and baileys in one go and her mind went a bit squiffy, she certainaly has a vivid imagination or is hallucinating. In 3 years of drinking here I have never seen a chav darken the doorstep and always have plenty of Andrex Thank-you very much.
anonymous - 13 Sep 2005 16:06
Fantastic place to be, not really sure where Lisseylee is coming from as there has not been stools at the bar since the new Landlord took over and that was Nov 2004. This pub has all that you need, with a great atmosphere, staff are friendly, never any trouble, and you feel like you can have a drink and have a laugh and relax. Landlord does theme nights monthly which are a scream and give us all an excuse to dress up and have a laugh.... If you havent been there, give it a go, you wont regret it!
Air Con aswell.....just what we need!
crappus - 20 Jun 2005 14:16
i do like this pub, and love the larger 35ml vodka shots. however, the two women staff are rude and unfriendly and have put me off going in there.
anonymous - 12 Apr 2005 21:35
I think you are being all being a bit harsh. Lets be fair, you get a better mix of people in here than in Yates (chav's) and the Rat & Parrot (chav's chav's). The music is party stylee (not just R'n'b all night) and the place has just had a refurb so looks more modern and comfortable. Give it a try. The DJ's are on every 2 weeks and can get the place rocking haha!
chrisha - 29 Mar 2005 17:57
Turdsville USA : -extortionate prices, under age drinkers, goofy teethed, bug eyed morons permanently parked on bar stools so you cant get to the bar. A range of refreshing drinks for the discerning pallet called red, yellow, pink, green, orange, purple and blue and something similar to Blue Nunn, oh and pee in pint glass.

The lack of seating and the waste of space 2ft square dance floor makes it impossible to get a seat at any time of day. At the weekends the terrible music makes dogs howl (or is that young girls weeping over being dumped by someone called Wayne) and the over powering heat is enough to make you undress, (if you had the unusual idea of wearing clothes in the first place this seems against the norm). The toilets are always broken never any loo paper if there was it would probably be Burberry print. The highlight of any evening would watching a punch up at the bus stop or going to use McDonalds toilets because they are nearer and cleaner. I had much more fun in here when it was the Halifax building society. In addition 2 baileys and ice apparently costs 9.20 according to the child that served me, who barely looked old enough to have taken maths GCSE. Commonly known in our circle as the fat c**t and similarly behaved, tasteless, boring, full of flatulence, attracts thick tarts and needs the shit kicking out of it.

Lisseylee - 28 Feb 2005 15:45
Not to bad but prefer oneils and oscars
pubcrawler1979 - 25 Dec 2004 22:41
I don't think it's a bad pub. It is, in fact, one of the pubs I like to be in,whereas normally I hate going to pubs, too noisy, loads of smoke and guys that don't have originality at all. Well done everyone in there!
Janina - 21 Dec 2004 09:39
I don't share crisha's confidence! It has simply got worse with the last two management changes and has gone from attracting the majority of the local office staff to getting the overflow from moon's. We will be over the moon...hmmm...if it does radically improve but taking the mantle of 'best pub in Harrow' really does not say very much! but will be a turnaround from the bottom of the pile.
thorby - 6 Dec 2004 17:04
This pub is going to get better, got new management who are going to do a complete refurb in January 2005. Got a great pair of DJ's every fortnight on Saturday nights playing all the latest tunes and finishing with the 70's and 80's party time hits. All in all this is a good fun night out and will be the best pub in Harrow!
chrisha - 29 Nov 2004 23:30
Not a bad pub, better than moons but not as good as O'Neills down the road.
Jack - 28 Sep 2004 17:42
O.K. bar, nothing special. Used to rock but has lost some of its charm. Debbie behind the bar however is stunning and any guy that thinks they have a chance, please feel free, the put downs she gives out are great!
Baby Boy - 9 Sep 2004 14:36
the pub has gone down a lot since the previous owner left the place an the prices have risen too much. i think the manageress karren has a lot of work to do if she is too get it to be any think like what it was a few years ago. she obviously hasn't taken into consideration that the pub was good enuf as it was an that she didnt have to change any think about the place to satisfy the customers.
jimmy - 20 Aug 2004 11:48
Yuck, terrible. Full of nutters. The pub is very expensive and you wait ages to be served, even when you do the bar staff cant speak english or are half asleep!!. Grubby.
anonymous - 29 Jul 2004 14:47
Not cheap..there's a Moons directly opposite, so perhaps not a fair criticism, but good for Sunday afternoon football. Not too packed...basically blokes waiting/drinking while the women shop.
Grant - 20 Mar 2004 01:08
Big Arsenal pub, they will be very nice to you if you are a gooner. Not so keen on Man u,try Manchester.
fatties - 26 Nov 2003 21:47

Benedict Ireland - [email protected] - 21 Nov 2003 10:00
Went down Sunday morning for the rugby at 0700. Breakfast, beer and a friendly welcome. What more could you ask for? Top marks!
Kevin - 5 Nov 2003 13:49

i work at the pub and im not 'UNFRIENDLY' thank u very much!im new but il let emz know bout the comments!
d - [email protected] - 3 Aug 2003 15:35
Good pint, good food and the barmaid with "dreads" is drop dead gorgeous!!
Vince - 3 Aug 2003 11:39
Are these folk talking about the same pub? Kim, the manageress will be as surprised as I was, when I tell her this afternoon. For Harrow, it is not as cheap as the pub across the street, but much more fun, and you can not only sit at the bar, you can smoke!
Mike - [email protected] - 31 Jul 2003 10:48
Just horrible. Really really really horrible. Don't even *think* about going there - cheap, yes, but unfriendly, and just, well horrible.
Philippa - 26 Jun 2003 15:02
mature crowd, needs to stay open longer.
Mr.KGB - 19 Mar 2003 17:07
