Woooo I bet the owner will love reading all these comments, good publicity for his pub!! So much love and care from customers and ex staff :-)
anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 21:56
This is one of the funniest things Ive read. Full of messages going back and forth between the owner and ex-staff.

I have been in here a few times as a customer as I live near-by. My friend also worked here for a few weeks before she was sacked.

If you read some of the messages on here, they are clearly written by the owners, as I doubt any customers could write ridiculous crap.

I have met the owner and he is quite intelligent, but hardly a genius. The man has made money by ripping people off. The illegal poker machine in the pub says it all!

The kitchen was closed due to the low standards. Some of the staff will confirm this. The only things running behind the bar are the cockroaches. It is people like this that have ruined pubs in this country.

I had the good fortune to work in this place since it became No.8 and decided to stay as the working conditions were so good.

The main bonus you have here is that the owner is a complete genius but has never owned a pub before, in fact I doubt he has ever run any kind of business before. I was at a loss to explain his "geniusness" and why he bought a pub as he clearly was a genius.

There were and still are extremely well trained staff running around behind the bar. Myself included. The rest of the staff there refused to drink out of any of the glasses as we were afraid we would run out and not be able to serve our customers. Well trained staff were running around upstairs too. Just after I joined, the owner had to close the kitchen down as it was being refurbished. Im surprised they didnt close the whole pub and the hostel down too for refurbishment.

This is seriously one of the best places I have ever worked in. Think carefully before drinking or eating anywhere else - you might end up missing out on a great life experience.

Don't we all love grumpy ex staff... lol!! group hug group hug
anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 15:58
Great pub and hostel! GRRREAT GREAT!

This pub is the bomb didley o!

I had the misfortune to work in this place since it became No.8 but decided to leave as the working conditions were so bad.

The main problem you have here is that the owner is a complete arsehole and has never owned a pub before, in fact I doubt he has ever run any kind of business before. I was at a loss as to why he bought a pub when he clearly knew so little about the business.

There was cockroaches running around behind the bar. Myself and the rest of the staff there refused to drink out of any of the glasses. Rats were running around upstairs. Just after I left, Brent Council had to close the kitchen down as it was so bad. Im surprised they didnt close the whole pub and the hostel down too.

This is seriously one of the worst places I have ever worked in. Think carefully before drinking or eating in here - you might end up with food poisoning.

anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 10:42
This place was packed on the weekend, best pub hands and feet down!!! Yeah yeahhhh!!! hahahahaahaaaa, thank god the staff are so much better now!!!
anonymous - 16 Sep 2007 23:27
This pub is the bomb didley o! Word
anonymous - 16 Sep 2007 23:25
Thank god the owner kicked out the previous staff, they were crap.

Happy Customer :-)

Wonderful time, best pub hands down.
anonymous - 13 Sep 2007 18:29
dreadful pub...could end up going the same way as the Spotted Dog
anonymous - 12 Sep 2007 18:45
Best pub in London innit.
Jelvis - 11 Sep 2007 16:02
I went into this pub about six months ago during the daytime when it was dead. After waiting for about 10 minutes for a bar-person to appear,I went around the other bar to see some dopey Eastern European girl busy chatting up some bloke. I apologised for interupting their conversation and asked if I could get served. I couldn't drink the flat lager I got served and went around the corner to the Crown instead.
Ben_Liar - 6 Sep 2007 00:45
No. 8 has the coolest staff in Willesden!
anonymous - 29 Aug 2007 18:14
We have never seen so many anonymous reviews in such a short space of time. We wonder who can be writing them?
Surely not Steve and Al !!!

pubinspectors - 29 Aug 2007 09:13
Steve and Al are both nice blokes. I'm really surprised they've stayed as long as they have. Most of the good ones leave after a few weeks. Neither should be working in a Willesden rough house.
anonymous - 29 Aug 2007 00:10
Steve is as good as Paul Van Dyk. I've been to every PVD gig in the Ministry of Sound and they both play the same shiz. nice style. I was in on the weekend and it went off :-)
anonymous - 28 Aug 2007 16:38
Al seems a nice enough bloke. All the staff appear quite happy and pleasant. The beer garden with the bbq is sweeter than custard pie. Steve should be knighted as Sir DJalot.
anonymous - 28 Aug 2007 16:29
Steve is too good for that place. Steve should be working in a proper club with a boss that appreciates good staff.
anonymous - 28 Aug 2007 15:51
Finally someone that agrees with me! Steve is the best DJ in Willesden... London perhaps? I noticed they have started introducing new DJ's, hopefully they are as good as Steve!

This is the best pub to watch the football in. I was there all weekend and it packed out and the atmosphere is electric. Go Arsenal!
anonymous - 28 Aug 2007 15:41
I've only been there a few times, and yes it does resemble Mcdonalds in a lot of ways. I was there on NY Eve - not sure what DJ the previous poster is on about. The only good DJ I saw there was Steve, the bloke that woerked there. The other bloke that was there most weekends was crap.
anonymous - 24 Aug 2007 22:40
This bar has gone through so many changes, loved it when the club was painted black, now they have painted it yellow and red, "welcome to mcdonalds, would you like fries with that?" Go there every weekend, always have an amazing night. Was there for the New Years Eve party, you guys had a DJ on from about 3am, he was fantastic, what ever happened to him? much better than the guy you have on fridays. BRING BACK THE DJ!! BRING BACK THE DJ!!!
anonymous - 14 Aug 2007 14:03

Willesden Green is a strange area, has nice parts and some really run down parts. Of all the pubs in this area I have been to this pub stands out as being heads and shoulders above the rest for fun and bringing a bit of life to the community.

Well done!

Good pub better than my pub back home.
Kurtagagh - 20 Nov 2006 16:32
I used to frequent this pub in the early 90's and boy has it changed considerably. If you're in Willesden do check it out. I am surprised how well it has been done up. Couches are some of the best in London! About time there was something padded to sit on. Well done.

8/10
Pubby12351 - 20 Nov 2006 14:13
This is the best pub in Willesden by a long shot. Tasteful decor, soulful tunes and the staff are so so nice. Fri and Sat nights - DJ and packed dance floors and rockin vibe. Food is magnificent. Who needs Soho, No. 8 in Willesden Green is it! Innit :-)

Oh yeah the rugby ain't half bad on those TV's :-P
Maryjanesmith - 16 Nov 2006 11:18
Hoooray somewhere to watch the rugby!

nikkio - 18 Apr 2006 17:08
This used to be "The Case is Altered". In the 50s I used to come here with my dad every fortnight, as in the rooms upstairs they had the loan club. This was a signifigant feature of working class life at that time. You paid in 5 bob (25p) a week (10 bob a fortnight) and in December each year (Christmas geddit?)you could take out your money, or keep it in there. If you had a sudden financial crisis at any time you could get a loan, depending on how much you had in your account. A bit like modern Credit unions.
Dad would pay his 10 bob, then go downstairs for a pint and I would get a lemonade and a packet of crisps and wait outside. Then we'd get the 666 trolleybus to Craven Park and then the 662 trolleybus back to Wembley.
SirGeoffrey - 5 Apr 2006 22:08
only ended up here because i came to buy a video player from an antipodean who lived in the area and had to stop off somewhere for a pint to get rid of a stinking hangover. Reminded me of a student union bar, which is probably fine if you're 18 years old but not so good if you're 28 (as i am). Anyway, drank my pint of flat lager and left with my new video recorder (a bargain at only 20 incidently), never to return to Willesden again....
anonymous - 18 Apr 2005 13:39
