please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Took some work colleagues in here one night the other week. Wasn't pleasant experience. Drinks (including wines for the women) served in plastic cups, floor sticky and place full of chavettes and what seemed like a dozen fruit machines. Toilet area upstairs look like have been attacked with a sledge hammer with holes in walls.

Next day couple of said colleagues were ill and thought that the drinks tasted bad.

Been in a few times over the last few months and management seems to be shifting around a lot (no-one ever seems to be sure who is running the place), However, my last visit prior to recently was 6 months ago with a group of friends for meals and drinks and service was quick (almost too quick) which ended in 3 out of 6 meals plus 1 lager and 1 ale having to be returned all to be be met with no real apology, just seemed 'run of the mill' for them.
Was pleasantly surprised on all of my recent visits (with the exception of some none-to- pleasant patrons, and some questionable language being used by the bar-staff hanging around at the end of the bar) altogether they seem to be getting progressively better as the food, beer quality and service seems much better.

Awful place with awful, chavvy, bouncers. We tried to get in last night - not my choice but we were meeting family and friends in there for a birthday party - one bouncer stamped my hand and husbands hand, then as we tried to get in another jerk in a suit told my husband he wasn't allowed in because he was drunk - WTF!!!!! He was not drunk. These aresholes on the door seriously need to be changed but the biggest joke of all were the hoodies and 18 year old kids that they were letting in - actually 3 of them fell out of the door in a fight while we were talking to the "bouncer" - but they wouldn't let in a couple of professional 30 somethings!! In hindsight I think we had a lucky escape - if thats the sort of clientele they want then they can have it. I will stick to more classy establishments in future!

Like most Yates's, a place to be avoided like the plague in the evenings and at weekends, I decided, however to pop in about 2:15 yesterday sfternoon for a quick pint and a nose about during a quiet period.

Inside the put is done up in standard Yates's corporate style: high seating, standard table seating and some leather sofas. Plenty of advertising on the walls and two TVs showing the ubiquitous Sky Sports News. The place was spotlessly clean however with the inside tables clear of used glasses and plates. I did notice that a couple of the outside tables had been left with glasses on them which I don't think is ever a tremendous advert for a pub.

I received a friendly welcome from the barman and the welcome sight of Bombardier and Young's Ordinary pumps, as I hadn't expected any real ale to be on offer. Even more welcome was the price of 1.75 for a nice pint of Young's - a cheaper Woking pub than 'Spoons!

All in all, very ok for a quiet, weekday afternoon pint.

nobody really comes here if they have any class this is shocking close it down like they did in g,ford.
BestBeerBoffin - 23 May 2009 16:58
Not much in the way of good beer here as you'd expect. Would not trust myself enough to eat here either!
BestBeerBoffin - 23 Nov 2008 11:48
Everyone knows Yates suck.
BigAleDrinkhead - 1 Nov 2008 16:15
Went to this pub about 3 Fridays ago with my hubbie, the bouncer wouldn't let my husband in because of his size (rugby player), as they said if he kicked off they couldn't control him. We have spent plenty of money on food and drink in this dive in the past, but never again!!!
emski70 - 13 Aug 2008 22:32
chav bar run by an even chav manager
maryj - 19 Feb 2008 23:09
a REAL dive. Actually worse than Chameleon sometimes, and at least with Chameleon people have a little affection for it even though they know its shite. No-one cares about this place...and for a good reason.
holiver - 31 Oct 2007 17:02
Awful, awful, awful. Frozen food, raw food, rude staff, chemical beer. AVOID!

Went in here today for some lunch. Menu looked good so ordered a carbonara. Took forever to come out and when it did was only luke warm and overcooked, but strangely had a nice flavour!!
The staff were very friendly and pleasant.

This pub is all geared up for evenings. Afternoons are lifeless.
The sound system and lighting should be the best in woking, but none of the scanners work, all have blown lamps. The sound system must have been set up by Elmer Fudd because it sounds absolutely awfull, really harsh. There are subs but you can't hear them let alone feel them. They need a good av engineer to give the whole system a service and EQ setup.
Drink special offers are no longer very special. Barstaff never smile. Food is absolutely terrible. I was there one lunchtime and 3 different tables sent food back! Toilets average, clean enough but vandaised.
Afternoon_Punter - 10 Sep 2006 06:14
Like most bars in Woking, this has gone downhill due to the 'hoodie generation'...avoid if you can
NormanSpoonBender - 17 Aug 2006 12:38
This pub has loads of potential!!! I hear that the management has is changing and the old manager from RSVP is taking over. This place will be good
anonymous - 2 Aug 2006 17:57
Deserves the 3.1 rating! Jesus!
PapaGandolf - 21 Feb 2006 12:39
hellhole. avoid like the plague. just what is the point of the tv? agree with aleman in that respect. ok, ok, the point of the tv is to entice the mostly under-age clientelle into buying more alcopops. 2/10.
swatto - 22 Jan 2006 14:42
This Yates is ok. Its pretty quite on a thursday night compared to o'niells over the road however. Usual types of drinks, cant complain about it really. Though watching Yates TV can be a bit boring
aleman - 31 Dec 2004 15:37
HELL! This IS the pikey accumulation point of Woking. The food is rubbish, the beer is expensive, the furniure belongs (and has probably come from) McDonalds. The only thing thast makes it worthwhile is the floods of 17 yr old sluts and tarts that frequent there on the pull...avoid this place like the plague.
bs3jdb - 21 Nov 2004 14:56
umm, some good looking ladies on the bar, and..., uhhhh.., well thats it actually!?
anonymous - 20 Sep 2004 20:50
Not a great place, not that cheap and food really isn't great!Much better off going to wetherspoons for an early evening drink or chameleon for a late night out
Mark - 5 Sep 2004 20:05
Visited recently and have to say was very unimpressed with some shocking food. Although it was very cheap it was still overpriced and unappetising.

Not too bad a place in the evening if you are looking for a trendy-'ish' bar.
gge - 29 Jun 2004 16:12
I came.., I saw,.., I left. What a waste of money. The place is a place that has some spirits and some pints. The staff know nothing about anything, and are basically just students looking to earn minimum wage!!! The atmosphere was dead, and so many young peeps there. I'm beginnning to think Woking was just narrowly missed by 3rd owrld debt!!!
Adam - 16 Mar 2004 02:22
wicked atomsphere and music
natalie - [email protected] - 13 Jan 2004 11:41
It's had its referb.., and is looking the dog's on the inside now. Haven't yet checked it out for the night life inside, but will give it a go next time I'm out in town. My mates say its improved, and it was v.busy on Sat nite, so maybe it's finally had the turn around its needed. But I'll add a more in depth view about it when i've actually been in there for an evening. Good Luck Yates!
Barman Dan - [email protected] - 17 Nov 2003 01:18
Newly refurbished Yates -generating a booming business and night time trade since its re-open last week.
Lodge has been turned into a 21st Century Yates. Full of plasma screens showing footy, all the lastest music videos and "Yates Life".We have many booths for cosying and the favourite "PornStar" area (customers will know why we call it that when you see it!!!).
It now has a great atmosphere. We are packed to the rafters now.
Peyton-Leigh - 16 Nov 2003 18:18
Happily this place now has a new Manager. It's not Yates' idear to provide a Pool Table. I hear that its decor will be 're-done' in October. Good News.

Peter Frost - 9 Sep 2003 18:08
I think that the doorman at yates are out of order and need improving on there costumer skill...
Andrea Horstmann - 1 Aug 2003 01:01
The doormen are FIT!!!

Loz has hit this nail on the head, and splintered the wood! Though the chain of Yates's is overall good, the Woking one is not great! noted to be the gay bar of Woking (by romour), and housing some of the uggliest birds in woking, (yes loz, the standard pikey variety), it's not somewhere you'd wanna be if you had a choice. If you wanna decent local yates's, go to guildford. (Hear Guildford's got a new barman starting in the next week or so, the guy from the Rat and Parrot in Woking that does all the flare and cocktails.. very good lookin' too girls!)
anonymous - 25 May 2003 03:41
i live in woking, and yates' is not the place to go, unless you are over 40. everyone goes to spoons instead, as its far cheaper!
Steve Marley - 27 Jan 2003 20:56
The popularity of this pub benefits largely from Woking Council's laissez faire attitude to license extensions. By day the pub is a relaxing hang-out with good food and seating outside when it's sunny. By night it is full of totty, unfortunately your standard Woking pikey variety. If only the bouncers would keep out the mingers as well as the minors.
Loz - 14 Aug 2002 14:07
the 1 is leeds is excellent lots of totty & shots come in test tubes...fantastic!!
