user reviews of the White Horse, Maldon

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Popped in for a pint as was waiting for the bus outside.

Busy with a few lads pumping money into the fruit machine and generally being noisey, but this didn't matter so much to me.

Had a pint of Amber Ale which was poured fine and tasted good.

The pub needs a bit of life to it as it could be a good place and out stripe the rest of the High St pubs.

Recently refurbished and a great deal better than it was including pleasant staff. An open fire would add atmosphere.

Forget all old reviews this pub is in new hands and really working hard to get a good reputation back. The pub has a new look great food and a good atmosphere. We stayed two nights b&b room clean en suite really good breakfast and the hosts couldn't do enough for our comfort. So if you're visiting Maldon give this pub a go.

we stayed at this pub from friday to sunday as bed and breakfast guests this weekend, my husband and myself were allowed to stay there with my chihuahua, we had a very clean room, no ensuite bathroom but shower room was next door, breakfast table was ready for us in the morning with full english breakfast served hot, meals were served by the resident fully quaified chef , beautifully cooked steaks on the bbq brought through to our table, evenings here were friendly, peaceful and relaxing. on the saturday night a singer was here and it was a singalong entertainment with music such as beatles, sinatra etc. My little dog was also made welcome throughout our stay. The landlord and lady were so welcoming nothing was too much trouble, it was the same until our stay ended. with fairly new owners of this establishment i have to say i would recommend this clean, friendly, reasonably priced family run pub to anyone. Bad reviews ? I honestly cant find any.

The manageress is a total rip off and proud of it too. Bands are not getting paid the agreed fee. Easy to have bands playing live if you are going to rip the off. Of course she has problems paying, since only very few people turn up to drink. 2 clients at 9 on a Saturday night!! Filthy toilets too. Cant see any future for this dive.

The bar staff are friendly enough but its sadly growing into a dive, its a weekly event that theres a bottling or a fight, on several occasions a knife has been involved, most people are avoiding the place now ( including myself), it either needs to be closed down/new management or they need to start learning to be stronger in barring the wrong type of customer before something fatally happens.

My mate went in here last Friday. Another pub full of children and half-breeds. Avoid - there are far better places in Maldon to drink in.

A local pub for local people! Strangers beware. The reaction we got was like The Slaughtered Lamb. *think duelling banjos and you will get it*
Made a quick exit after only using the toilet which is all it is good for.

Pub discos are ok but very young crowd and the toilets are awful!

Gone downhill over the last couple of years - full of maldon yoof adopting american gansta fashion but looking as whimpy as feck. Only redeeming features are it's full of young loose maldon girls and it's near the taxi rank so you can make a quick exit.

Basic pub serving the Shepherd Neame range. Master Brew in Kent is a rarity let alone in Essex (you can keep the Spitfire)
Discos Fridays, live music most Saturdays and Sundays. Mostly plain inside with trophies in one corner and blackboards with drawing representing the beers on offer (e.g. Spitfire, Master Brew, Guiness). Pool table available when no music.
