please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Ive only ever been to this pub during the daytime so i wouldn't like to make any comments about the night life of this bar. Is a nice bar but its not called Risa anymore think its rewind if i remember correctly. Very spacious but still warm. Wide range of spirits and bottled beer which is nice. More of a young persons bar though i feel but still rate it as good.

Not called Risa/Jongleurs any more. There is still a retro music bar and comedy club.

Risa is Awesome
best night is a friday for the cheepest drink deals in reading with shots of sourz and sambucca for a bound and a double vodka mixer (including red bull) for 2.5
satadays are also great value for drinks with buy on get one free from 9 to 11 and the entrance fee is cheep too unlike other clubs which charge the earth, and with amazing drinks deals throughout thbe week it is often cheeper to start yoyu evening here than in other bars such as weatherspoons.
as a student its great that the comedy club upstairs offers nus discounts on tickets and if you join as a member you get sent fantastic offers for return visits

in all Risa and Joungleurs provides a totally different night to other bars in reading with a great mixture of music on both floors and frequent special events and extreamly competative pricing.

Me and my girly friends were out last sat and stumbled upon Risa. The bouncers were really nice and friendly which makes a change after being in most other places.
The drinks deals aren't too shabby either! Me and my friends were boogying away, having requests put on by the charming DJ. The atmosphere was brilliant, and the staff were amazing. I had my eye on the tall bearded barman for most of the night, he was soooo cute!
Me and the ladies will definitely visit again!

Be careful, students have been bottled in the fac, and attacked outside

I went here on a student night with a foam party and a bucking bronco- it was so much fun and the drinks deals were really good too-definately the place to go if you're a student. However me and a friend were thrown across the room for no apparent reason by one of the over enthusiastic bouncers which put a downer on the night (i think his name was colin so look out)

Went a couple of weeks ago on a fri and walked upstairs expecting the normal packed out dancefloor, But to my horror it was EMPTY. No exaggeration. There was no one up there!...Downstairs was busy though but we were like sardines on the dancefloor. Whats going on guys!!!It was a friday!!

Absolutely loved this place, service on drinks a bit slow, but the place had an amazing atmosphere and i felt safe in there! definitely the place to be on saturday nights, and going to try the place Friday nights because I heard they're just as good and you get wuicker service cos it's not as crowded!

Me and the girlies can't wait to come again!!!
DebbieH - 17 Jul 2007 22:26
Pricey and full of dinlos
ted_savage - 17 Jul 2007 15:21
This place is very crowded for Sat nights. We were there not so long ago the music was not bad but thats about it really.
The bar area was very crowed and waited very long for a drinknot an hour but maybe 20 or 30 mins. Still long when your hot and thirsty and need to keep going up there for rounds.
Upstairs was good music, but the floor was filthy I know its a club but there was drinks spilt and people dancing in puddles of sticky liquid. Towards the end of the night there were re staff collecting glasses with big bucket thing with wheelsoh what a night mere to doge these people.if you dont move quick youll be sure to get hit!
Drinks were cheaper to The Q bar and Mangos but I wouldnt mind paying The extra for a clean and friendly place to have a night out. Q bar yes there other comments are correct , the staff are very friendly and always looking out for us girls. Mangos is much smaller but much better music and cleaner.
Anyway, this is my point of view as a customer.
With this site being a recommendation site I think its really point less having any staff members adding there comments they would obviously be looking for the bness and make such comments to draw them in?!?!

"we are Readings best bar/niteclub"

it doesn't get any bigger than that - time to give this place a visit I think
The_Rotter - 16 Mar 2007 09:26
After trying to work out which workmate posted the last comment, i decided to give my two cents...

The doorstaff are brilliant! As the workmate who won't reveal his name has said, the only real reason you could think they were bad was because you must have been asking for trouble in the first place.

Summer WAS hot, and don't think you customers were the only ones melting! The air con was fixed though so this summer will be a different affair.

With crowding and queueing, it has to be expected, because we are one of the most popular venues in Reading. We do however strive to give the quickest service possible. Adding on to this, any reviews where people mention waiting over an hour are blatant lies! I can guarantee you will never wait that long EVER in front of the bar!

Moving on to the comedy show element of this venue, these make for the best nights out! 2hrs of hilarity and priority on the upstairs floor, because once the chairs and tables are away the party starts! No queueing to get up there or anything, as you're already there! Cheap ticket prices for unadulterated entertainment!

Not much more which i can think of, but from going here on nights out i can guarantee you its one of the best nights out. Brilliant music, great comedy, awesome atmosphere!

...
gonna put "anonymous" because the other guy did.

First to explain the negatives that have been posted on the site. i know the place very well having worked their a while. Bad Bouncers- No such thing im afraid, they all speak English and have a license to work on the door. The door staff also have several certificates and awards for excellance, why did you have to talk to the doorman anyway unless you've done something wrong. The Heat, yes it was hot in there over the summer the air-con broke down completly and it would mean shutting for weeks while it was fixed, during the world cup month this would have been business suicide, the extra revenue made from the world cup allowed the air-con to be fixed for this summer! Over-crowding, we are Readings best bar/niteclub, you have to queue as its such a popular place, if you dont like it dont come to the place, brannigans and q bar are similar places though you will find even more horrible chavs in those places, its Reading i think you breed chavs here. there everywhere, never have we ever let burberry print in here though. Come on a friday night if yopu want a less manic experience. L:st point queueing to get upstairs, If you want to get upstairs for the cattle market without queueing go to the comedy show in jongleurs thats who get the priority for the cheese fest that is the jongleurs party.

Mid week visit whilst on my way elsewhere. Wasn't too busy friendly staff and comfy seating. Menu looked quite tasty and quite affordable for the student population of Reading.
DeggyT - 5 Nov 2006 13:48
Looks great but that's all. Bad bouncers. some don't even speak english. no way do they adhere to health and safety when it comes to numbers allowed upstairs..... overcrowding like you wouldn't believe
foxychick - 24 Sep 2006 14:17
Popped in on a Tuesday evening. Not too bad a place, no real ale though (surprise surprise) but there was Leffe, Budvar and Hoegaarden in the fridge so that's OK, pricey though. Barman was a nice fella too.

The semi-circular sofas are a nice touch and the toilets were in good nick. Menu looked nice + quite cheap but didn't sample.

One of the better 'bar' venues in Reading, certainly a lot nicer than Pavlov's which we visited later anyway.
Quinno - 3 Aug 2006 20:57
I used to love this place, but now its the same every time I go, same music, same queues for a drink (some times up to half an hour) and as it is so hot in there you will die of heat exhaustion before you get served. Only go if you want a night out sweating and turning reddrinking water and fighting for one of the only two fans they have in there. Where is the air con, its a big bar and part of a chain, dont tell me you cant get that sorted!? Its a joke in there and you just cant have fun. Go wearing your underwear only!
anonymous - 27 Jul 2006 10:20
Had two bad nights here on different occasions. The place resembles a badly lit sub-post office, complete with never ending non-moving queue around the inside to get to the decent music upstairs and escape the 'Vauxhall Nova at traffic lights' tunes which the main bar offers. The potential to be a great bar is stifled by overcrowding, chav-proliferation and leaving radio Lewisham to handle the music. Avoid, if you like to dance, hate Burberry and can still hear in both ears.
Hudson - 8 Apr 2006 17:10
The comedy upstairs is amazing!! Went there at xmas.

But way to expensive!!
siancollins - 5 Jan 2006 15:29
I work here part time, going onto full time as bar staff and busy nights are thursday or saturday without a doubt. Can also get very busy on mondays when University starts.

It often pays to get here early so you can get to the bar quicker, as usually by 11pm it is packed. Got comedy nights upstairs also for thursday friday saturday. Guaranteed laugh for a group of friends on a special occasion or just a night out.

Definitely worth a look, so i'll see you here ;)
SomeBlokeWhoKnows - 22 Sep 2005 08:11
Tends to get very packed and with prices stacking on the high side it's only really useful if you're wandering upstairs to Jongleurs at some point.
thebigbosh - 12 Sep 2005 23:07
Good atmosphere and lots of cute men!

However bar manager on Fri/ Sat is perhaps the cutest man I've seen in a long time - terrible flirt!

Drinks quite pricey but wouldn't expect anything else in Reading (quite often buy a round for five people and get little change from 20)

One of the best late night venues in town and not bad for a 5 entrance fee if u consider other places charge up to 12.
Allie - 11 Aug 2005 16:51
Only place to go really for the late night, due to the lack of proper clubs in Reading and the shite that oozes out the other pub/bars. Starting to get tedious tho.
One off's will definately be a good night in here. Reading get a liquids or something, now that shit is banging.
Vodkajelly - 21 Jun 2005 13:31
Friday nights upstairs is great they play loads of 80's, 90's and some of todays music and i love it the atmosphere is fab as it is a place to go drink be merry and have a boogie. I am 21 and everytime there is a new bouncer on the door i get asked for ID and have never noticed loads of young people but hey i go out to have fun for myself so i wouldnt even notice.

The only down fall is that it is really packed on a saturday so it takes you ages to get in and then it takes hours to get a drink and to get upstairs think again.
nicola1983 - 25 May 2005 21:41
Agree with ANDREW and anon this is similar in feel to Bar 38, classy but the drinks over priced. Would recommend staying here for 1 or 2 only then going somewhere bit more upbeat. Good to get a stool by the dancefloor and letch on the girlies shaking there booties
anonymous - 9 Feb 2005 16:05
A good amosphere in here at the weekend and a large dancefloor to shake yer ass. Drinks are a bit pricey though.
ANDREW - 10 Nov 2004 12:19
Bouncers are really professional and friendly. Fri nights the best-R&B downstairs. The only place to be really. Classy and good fun.
anon - 25 Aug 2004 15:57
Well I ended up at Bar Risa on saturday night with my bestmates from home (living in Bristol at the mo) and we had a fantastic time, still talking about it now!!!....I have only ever been to the bar downstairs...but I'm glad we tried upstairs this time. We drank and danced the night away, we met a lovely group of lads from Theal and my mate took a real shine to one of the bouncers...so they can't be that bad!
CB - 25 Aug 2004 13:59
I am a bouncer at Risa, i'm not aggresive what so ever, however i would like to agree that thursdays and saturdays are good, but i ID nearly everybody who walks in under 30 so i dont know where they get that idea from, also we conviscated a load of passports and driving licenses used by people who didnt match the picture on the ID.
Bouncer - 28 Jul 2004 13:36
Nice place, nice drinks, just a shame the bouncers are so aggresive, I wouldnt go there again.
Micheal Smith - [email protected] - 31 May 2004 16:48
Bar Risa is absolutly mental. Me and the Lads fom Pres love it. In the words of the poor, it is 'banging!!!' It has changed my thursays for ever. Oh yeah and it is cheap.
Alex Coleman - 12 May 2004 11:41
Nice place music is wicked. Though bouncers can be agressive. Are certainly NOT strict on the age limit.
kathy - 7 May 2004 13:23
good nite out but more fit men needed!!!!
come on lads!!!!!!

alison - 6 Apr 2004 17:32
It's alright there, quite a few nice women, a few dogs.
d - 6 Apr 2004 16:32
Does anyone know if its 18's or 21's on a friday night?
Rob - 9 Mar 2004 12:56
I went on a Saturday, and it was good, not worth 5 to get in so go early if your going to go, but it looks nice and plenty of totty
James - 24 Jan 2004 16:29
