I was back here for a roast dinner yesterday almost 8 years since my last visit. Not much has changed. Although the 2 ales are Pride & Doom Bar. The carpet is much more worn and what felt like a fairly clean place on my last visit was much dirtier this time. Gents had to wade through a flooded floor in the gents, whilst trying to avoid the inconveniently placed wet floor sign. Food was the usual good value. But, this place has gone downhill.

Came here for a carvery last night and not really for a beer. Although Marstons Royal Union and Fullers London Pride were the 2 ales. The place is now owned by Toby. For a cheap value-for-money meal, it's worth a visit. There were some people that appeared to be there only for the drinks. But they were very much a minority. Not a place I can particularly recommend for a beerintheevening.

Cheap carvery, that tastes even cheaper. Not good.

The bar area is a typical paint by numbers harvester/toby etc bar area which did actually appear to be frequnted by a few locals, on account of this being the only establishment in the area with the apperance of being a pub. Saying that, i just cannot understand why any one would waste their life in a souless chain carvery bar, when denham village and chalfont st peter are a 5 taxi away.

No amount of faux antique pictures and pub style furnishings will take away the fact that this bar is actually a waiting area for before you sit down for a dissapointing carvery.

has any one had bad staff day like my husband and my self ? we had gone in to this
toby pub, we live near by, and had enjoyed going the at chrismas time, or even at week or weekends, BUT this time, the day before mothers(21st march 09) well the manger walk us to our table, we wait for this blonde haired girl, to finely get to us, for our drink order,.......well we waited and finely we deside to go to get our meal, we sat back at our table with our wonderful meal, and waited &waited for our drinks, well my husband was nearly half way through his meal, when he was wanted to know where his drink was, ???? i ask the the waiter who was serveing the tables in front of us, about my glass of water, and my husbands pint was, he smiled and said he would get the girl who was serving us? well after a 5min, she came up plonk our drinks done, and went to walk away, i said that we want a desert & has she walk a way, she said ok, well, we sat there, and waited........, finely we decided to go & forget about the pudding, we to pay for our meal, and the girl was at the the till, i said we wont bother about the deserts her comment was,"ok", i said to my self, what bad servise we had ! i walk away, while my husband was paying the bill , next min she came rushing up to me, and wanted to know what i had said, i told her, and she walk to the other till to get some change , and her comment was,"just because we never got our deserts" with a grin, i had said no, but she walk away, i saw the" manger"and told him about the rudeness of this girl, she came rushing done to him, and started to say, she was rushed of her feet, (we had been there before, even on a sunday, where you have a long wait from 1pm upwards) i told that was not our fault, but her comment was, Iwas a rude person,!!the manager, just told her to get the change, so we can go!, she came back slap the change in to the managers hand, i walk away, next minute, she came rushing out to tell my husband, that the manager had came him 47p to much,!!!! and than she started to rant at me again, when i ask her her if i could speak, her coment was NO,!!!, and she call me rude!!, well to say we have not been there since, whether that blonde girl is STILL there , I dont no, but much as we like this pub, the ugly duckling, in denham, my husband wont go in there again, in case we get the same treatment, or worse she spits in to our drink,??? our i rate this pub, well 9/10 for food ect, but on that day , service from that person, 0/10, bang goes our christmas meal too

Sells poor quality food on a "carvery" basis. It is not a pub, nor does it sell any real ale. You need to compare like for like.....Visited once (today) would never go back.

Sadly a plastic chain pub. I am nto against Toby Cerveries as I have used them before and they were OK (do vary though)for a dinner but not as a pub or drinking environment. But this one was not very good. We arrived for the early dinner special and were ontime but by the time we got seated etc we were told we were too late! Their fault not ours, for being lazy as the place was dead!

Food was very average and quite a measly meat portion for the money and veg not very good considering it was early. Beer was poor and there were hardly any bar seats to sit and enjoy your drink after the meal. Forget the garden for a ciggie, it's on a busy main road and it is basically a case fo sitting in the car park! Not impressed and no desire to return there for food or drinks.

we went there for our works Xmas do on Friday. The carvery meal was excellent and the very generous chef piled the plates with gammon and turkey. Great value for money as the 3 courses came 13 quid. Very helpful and friendly staff- they even gave us a cab number for our next port of call

Now a Toby Carvery. Had an excellent meal there the other day. Great value and family friendly. A no-smoking pub throughout although you can always sit in the garden or, as I saw two customers do, go and sit in your car for a fag.
