Ridiculous bar. Refused entry on the grounds that we were male... Not too drunk or dressed inappropriately... Just that we weren't female. Bouncers were total idiots. I had 100 in my pocket that could have been in their till, but nope... Not good enough. Avoid this bar at all costs. Sexist, pretentious nonsense.

Good for a quick stop over drink or shot but it is very 'narrow' and crammed inside.

i treid this last night on way into london and it has become a B@1 chain bar which is a shame

it was ok but just bland, try the alex a few doors up !

Decent enough - was in one Thursday night a couple of weeks ago for a quick pint. Service okay, lager was good, music sufficiently quiet to speak easily enough, decor okay. Nothing wrong with this place, just more characterful and interesting places to drink in Clapham

Bar Local.....well 'it is what it is'....yeah okay Tom is a bit moody (he shouted at me once) but it all adds to the character of the place. Get there early, get a table with a big group of mates and it's one of the best places in Clapham to spend an evening or an afternoon. Great music, great DJs, great atmosphere, good cocktails.....the only problem is that it's a bit of a time warp in there and before you know it, you've lost five hours talking complete rubbish (or is that just me and my mates?!)!

... are you kidding me? This has got to be the best bar in Clapham! Great tunes, great staff, and great vibe. I'll be going back there again. And again. And again...

This is by far my favorite pub in Clapham. The best place for a Sunday Session. Tom can be a bit moody sometimes but he has just had another baby so probably isn't getting as much sleep as he would like.

Advertising cocktails then being told they couldn't make it because they had no ice (!) or Rum (both of which I could see), was laughable. Then being aggresivly told I had a problem by the supposed manager called Tom meant Bar Local is not my number one choice in Clapham! Some work on customer relations needed folks!

Not worth the bother quite frankly

It's one of my locals and I've had some good cocktails (NOT beers) there before. Went along there yesterday afternoon (2 April) for some coffee - clearly marked on the menu - and was told in no uncertain terms that barLocal doesn't, and never will serve hot drinks. So what's the coffee machine behind the bar for?? I hope that the menu will be updated soon.

Not a bad bar but wha t is the decor all about weird!
staff are friendly but its only a quick beer place for me and no more

I like it! Small yeah, but use your eyes does it look big when you walk in??!?! Some nights the music is great. Its a good starting point and is open til late on a sunday, which is sometimesvery helpful. I hear the food is indeed very good.

Hmmm, review below beginning yummy food sums it up for me. It was full of girls in there mid-twenties acting like 17 years olds covering deep subjects like "I'm going out tomorrow AND Thursday night, haw haw!!". This place is quite stylish inside (if you like laminates) but it's lager only bar so if you've grown out of Stella/Grolsch then you'll be rough the next day as you're forced into drinking continental poison for the night. Oh yeah and the frontage is really tacky, see photo on this page. NOTE: Bar staff were really friendly and the girl was very pretty(!)

Erm tiny and a pile of crap, just as well it's small otherwise it would be a big pile of crap. Food is delicious, but I go to the pub to enjoy myself and drink beer. Sorry doesn't do it for me.

Yummy food, good music. Really tiny, but great place to hang out with mates if you can score the sofa.

This is a great local bar. Good beer on tap (Cobra & Staropramen) and excellent music. OK, so its a bit small, but if you want a warehouse then head to a Slug & Lettuce. I'll take Bar Local any night of the week.

if you're looking for a corridor to drink over priced drinks and be surrounded by sloaney recruitment consultant types on the pull, then this is the place for you! you also probably need a lobotomy, but that's another matter. good music though, and great arial photo of clapham.

Wicked pub and an unusually intimate, friendly atmosphere. The food is great and the music is some of the best I've heard in London!
Noah - 25 Aug 2004 17:23
Great staff - great music - good fun but don't come looking for room to move. And bring a smile and be prepared to meet those around you.
Tim Fox - 16 Jul 2004 15:11
Great pub - yes its small but that just ads to the atmosphere. The burgers there are absolutely fantastic and go down well with a pint of cobra.

I LOVE IT!
Staff are great, music is great .
Highly recommended. Sure it gets crowded - but where doesnt around the common?

Cj - 18 Mar 2004 16:46
Why would anyone want to spend their evenings socialising in a bar that really should be renamed Bar Corridor. Its long and narrow and overcrowded. Cobra is great though.
becca - 24 Feb 2004 11:58
Yes this is a very narrow bar so not much room, but if you go early in the evening it's really quite nice! It's quite relaxed although that probably changes later on at night I suppose.
JP - 23 Feb 2004 17:30
Quite possibly the smallest bar in thw world. About as much room as the interior of a mini. If you fancy going there on a saturday i suggest you turn up at about 4pm, otherwise if you actually get in then you will have to 'sway' with the rest of the pub when someone either wants to go to the loo or get a drink. Apart from this very major problem, its pretty good
Humpf - 10 Feb 2004 14:04
Very nice laid-back pub just by Clapham Common tube station. Incredibly friendly staff with DJs later in the evenings. Beer is great and they even have Cobra on tap, and great bar food (gourmet burgers you won't believe)
