Nice pint of Courage (£3.60). CW Eagle IPA and Tribute also available.

Plenty of lager including Kirin and Aspall for cider drinkers.

Decent community pub and plenty of outside space despite location on busy road.

Blimey. Did I say Leicester to Derby (next review)? We weren't that disorientated; I meant Leicester to Hertford.

Popped into this place on the way from Leicester to Derby hoping for an afternoon snack at about 4pm. Alas, the cook had just knocked off, so the landlord directed us to another pub nearby which he thought might still be doing food in the later afternoon, and even allowed us to leave our car parked in his car park. I was very impressed with his helpfulness and although on this occasion we did not have time for a pint, the next time we are travelling by we shall definitely drop in. So, I can't say much else about the pub except it had a wide if somewhat predictable beer selection - Adnams, Doom Bar, London Pride, Young's Ordinary - the usual suspects. Would have liked to have seen one ale from a smaller local brewery on offer, but that really is nit picking on my part. Beer garden looked very inviting on a hot summer day.

Two sectons to left and right as you go in. Five ales on - the Admans bitter was quite good. Would have agreed with the last poster about it being the best pub in town only before the B & T Albion appeared. If you're peckish you can buy food from the Ampthill Fish Bar next door and scoff it on the tables out the front of the pub.

the best pub in ampthill, i always enjoy the selection of real ales on offer and enjoy the odd game of pool (after a few). i will continue to visit this pub for years to come keep up the good work

Busier and with a much younger crowd than some of the village pubs to the south of Amphill. There were 5 real ales on offer - Adnams Bitter & Broadside, St Austell Tribute, Fullers London Pride and Young's Special. The one bar seemed to be a meeting point for the local canine population and a trip to the toilet involved navigating around several of our four-legged friends!

Considerably improved of late after a bit of a dip. Good range of beers and one of the better pubs in the town.

Excellent pub, good beer selection and nice proper pub feel. By far the best pub in Ampthill and has been for a very long time. Dave Raggett still makes the occasional guest appearance to lend a hand. New Decking out back is a real bonus as is the bouncy castle. New pool table looks nice but is probably the quickest I have ever played on!

I visited this pub in Ampthill numerous times from 1977 to 1979. Dave Raggett had recently taken charge. The blokes treated me quite well, despite that I'm a yank, possibly due to my not bringing other yanks or stealing their birds and because I was willing to admit English superiority in all matters, especially beer making. I developed a taste for Trophy bitter, as that was the drink that all the blokes drank, and to be one of them, I had to do likewise. They also served BB, which Dave Raggett said stood for Bright Beer, but the blokes all told me that it stood for Beginners Beer. There was a solicitor named John Kemp who had flown in the RAF during the war, and there was a guy who lived in a barn and never worked officially who could drink more than anyone else, he went by "Jordie" but no one knew his real name and he wouldn't tell. One time he got three free beers from me by telling me that he could drink his beer in under ten seconds and me wanting him to prove it and him saying that if he did it he wouldn't have any beer left in his glass. I wish I could go back, although I doubt there would be anyone that I would know anymore, but there might be some who would remember some of the blokes I knew.

Small town drinking hole, 3 drinking rooms in one tiny pub. Suffered slightly from departure of legendary publican Dave Raggett immortalised on the pub sign outside. Well kept beer garden, popular with cricketers in the summer.
