this was a great little boozer back in the day but not so now i've been in there a few times this year and it seems to get worst with every visit sign outside the pub most weekends saying live music but when you go in it's just a jukebox on very rarely a band or dj i asked the landlady about this just to get a very nasty look and for her to walk off saying if you don't like it don't come back well i haven't been back and don't think i would in future which is a shame as they had a couple of really nice bar staff and beer was good, blonde young lady i think called kim was very polite and great at her job i can't remember the other one's name but think she as moved on to another pub the rest that work there now look like they need a good wash, such a shame another good pub is being run this way

Very comfy little boozer with TV's showing the Liverpool v Arsenal game last Saturday when I paid a visit. Good service.
There are 3 hand pulls for Greene King ales IPA, Abbott and St Edmunds.
I tried a pint of the latter and very nice it was too for 2.60.

I have not been here for a while as I have moved from Ponders End but it is a great pub, and THE choice for Ponders End. Great atmosphere, the manager is superb and wont take any crap. It used to be great for football but the smoking ban killed it unfortunately. Spurs v Arsen*l games were awesome in those days. Happy days, but at least you can get served during a match now. Nopt the staffs fault, it was just that rammed! Last time I was in there was for Inter/Barca in last years Champions League semi. It was pretty quiet but the staff are always good and the clientele are the best in the area. When I moved up the road it would have been nice to take this pub with me and brought back the smoking, even though I have since quit. Would give it a 10 but it never has any good ales apart from Greene King IPA, although the Guinness is damn good.

I started drinking in the goat about 4 months ago after going in one friday night and having a great night with the bar staff on duty.

Since then i visited with my boyfriend and kids once/twice a week...

When with the kids we always ate a fantastic meal by the young chef who is friends with one of the managers, he has a spark for service and always cooked us good grub. We'd then visit over the weekends for a right laugh as this being one of the only places open till 2am nowdays!

The management of Amanda and Kyle were excellent and showed most of the customers a good time (some didnt agree but theres a reason they drunk at 1pm everyday!) They will be truly missed since they were forced out by the company and replaced by management who seem unaware of customer service and the staff seem so moody now its not a nice place to go.

We now drink in the picture palace down the road which over the weekend is full of ex-goat drinkers who have left since the new management.

I have spoke to kyle who is about to take over another pub....ill let u all know and maybe his team will join him for a fantastic friday night again!

Well done Greene King...ruined another pub!

Imposing Greene King pub on Ponders End High Street with a substantial amount of 'brewer's Tudor' decoration on the facade. Inside, it looks and feels like a pretty good traditional boozer with a busy main bar at the front, extending past a smaller open lounge with more comfortable seating and round the corner to the games area. Only let down by no real ale (so had to resort to IPA Smooth at a reasonable 1.99) and a temporary lack of food (despite adverts for the all-day menu all over the place).

I love the Goat! It has so many memories from the days of 'Ken Dodds Dad Dogs Dead' to another prime Christmas Eve delivered in 2005. It's a place where old, young, drunk, sober, chav, class (of edmonton!) can mix.. it's great.. just watch out for the slighty grumpy terrier!

beer good at a good price. L shaped bar with 2 pool tables and a v.good juke box. In the summer you can go outside on the new decking where live bands play and are of good standard.

Nice pub. Occasional bands too.

Decent pub in the heart of Ponders End. Makes an effort and The Lark In The Park days when live bands play out in the car park is always good fun. Drinks are reasonably priced and there is a fair selection. Different areas of the pub have very different decor/seating and mood, with older regulars in the comfortable and staid front area and younger drinkers in the more spacious area with fewer seats at the back with the pool table, jukebox and big screen for sports. Well worth dropping inot if you are passing by. a lovely building as well with a distinctly incongrous set of cobbled stones outside on the otherwise modern urban thorughfare that ir Ponders End high street.

Good beer, wall to wall TVs, quite a lot of Irish in here, not that that is a bad thing. Nothing special but largely student free & better than anything within walking distance. Even if the competion isn't that hot.
