Not a great boozer. We couldn't get food at 8pm on a Sunday which I thought was quite poor. Sevice at best OK but very dubious crowd, be wary of where you aprk your car due to pikey kids hanging around outside.

I grew up in Oakwood years ago & my family have always used the Merryhills. Over the past 5 years, this place has gone down into the gutter, the staff are absolutely useless, the food is awful, the manager is more interested in having fun than controlling the pub & I would personally say that the people that use this pub have got to be the worst bunch of people I have ever had the misfortune of sharing a pub with

I tried to go in this pub on Saturday night as all the other pubs around were full to bursting and this one was empty, the two bouncers stopped me and the manager said I couldn't come in as I was wearing shorts. When I pointed out his pub was empty he said it was because they weren't letting dickheads like me in, this would be a first for this place as normally it's full of dickheads including half the staff.

Alright if you are not bothered about atmosphere or beer quality, I suppose. Overrun with chavvy kids and served by semi-witless bar staff, with one or two exceptions. Does have the benefit of a beer garden our front so you can enjoy the traffic and fumes in the summer.

I've never been frisked, but then I tend to only go there for the footie.

Me and my boyfriend have been coming to this pub for ages, but just recently I feel the standards have slipped. We went in the last Saturday night and the place was full of posers, giving everyone dirty looks. The atmosphere was uncomfortable and we ended up leaving much earlier than we would have liked to because it was that bad. And we were searched on the way in, my boyfriend was thoroughly frisked - enough said really! Total shithole

I have to say that contrary to the opinions of the majority of other reviewers I have recently started having an occasional drink in this pub and have found it to be very friendly and a nice place to visit. Admittedly this has been on week nights when there are no bouncers in sight but I haven't seen any trouble that would warrant their presence. The beer is well kept and cheap, barstaff are efficient and friendly and with a choice of plasma, normal TVs and a big screen projector it's a great place to watch sport. Video jukebox isn't too intrusive. The pub is comfortable and clean with a nice fire for cold days. The quiz they do is good fun and not too challenging. A good place to have a mid-week drink and the food is approachable and reasonably priced too. It is ultimately just a Q's(formerly Mr.Q's) pub but is a much better than usual example of it's type. If you like pool the tables are pretty good as you might expect in this ind of place, if you don't want to play, you can sit well away from the corner with the tables and enjoy your beer in peace.

Chav-infested hell when I last visited a couple of years ago. Full of Burberry-capped teens and bling-clad chavettes. Will give it another chance next time I'm in London - I hope for improvement!

An update on my previous comment: Whilst walking past last night the bouncers were actually frisking a guy on his way in!! What a lovely friendly boozer! Sorry Helen, but you are way wrong. Take note: the chain has no interest in these places as long term investments. They'll make their money and, once the kids have gone somewhere else or the licence is removed, they'll sell up to a property developer. This place will be a block of flats within three years and the community loses another pub. Well done to all concerned.

Has changed alot since the new managers took over. No more screwfaced gits or a youth club with beer. What are they talking about?!! Average age has gone up since the Cowper Crew were ALL barred!

The Merryhills aint that bad, new landlord now, good atmosphere, dont no what your moaning about bouncers about, go into southgate on a friday night n ur find most other big pubs now have them!

They ruined my local and turned it into pool pub full of screwfaced gits. The ashtrays are never emptied, the tables never wiped and you can't get served unless you're wearing a Burberry baseball cap or a visible thong.

Please don't bother. Used to be quite a nice boozer until the usual faceless chain decided to change it. Now its just a youth club with beer - pool tables, loud music and grunts (sorry, 'youth') idiots abound. Drop in if you feel like a fight sometime............Else ask yourself - Do you really want to use a pub that needs bouncers on the door in Southgate????
