Popped in few weeks back. They had 2 handpumps on both with Bombardier clips, but @ only 2.04 a pint I chanced one. Sadly it was like pure vinegar but the barman changed it straightaway with no fuss for a pint of 3.42 becks, ok fizz but fair swap. He apologised and said it was the end of the barrel and their cask ale sales were proving very popular and he was awaiting a delivery of tt landlord, 6/10

Quite a nice place for a chain but the service is rubbish. We went last night and despite it being quiet no-one collected glasses or wiped tables in the hour we were there (there was a load of red bull on our table) and the barmaid made a massive fuss when my friend changed her mind about her drink, despite the fact she hadn't started making the drink yet.

Drinks are priced very OTT and I wouldnt bother ordering a drink anytime near last orders because like many chains the staff do not give a sh*t as they are only being paid the minimum wage to work up to their allotted time and therefore do not want to work 14 second past that; hence starting to clear tables and stack chairs whilst punter are still drinking not as bad The Unicorn in Alty though

this pub has good food and good beer, Can be a bit pricey but better than other pubs in the area as this one doesnt have any scallies!

toff pub. Via Vita was hardcore. this is softcore. white russian fest is mind bending and i'm just plain demented

Its been a complete let down since they changed it from Parisa, the food tastes like microwave dirt which im told it pretty much is, i know for a fact the original Parisa head chef left to go to the american bar in hale and its been crap since. Beers too expensive and if they do show any sport then your not allowed to show any emotion or cheer. its alright for a "date place" but nothing more, if your out with mates then go somewhere further up which has some atmosphere. Ive seen that irishman you mentioned, hes class !!

Hi there. Not been here yet as I live down South now, but my best friend has just started working here. She serves a good pint and mixes a good g&t, always smiling and is very professional. However 2.70 for Fosters!! My pub in London doesnt even charge that much for a pint of weak minging beer!

I was in here on the evening of Friday 26 Nov 2004, I ordered a pint of Fosters and a glass of medium white wine. 6.40!!! Absoutely disgusting, I asked the barmaid if she had put it through the till correctly.

Having paid this amount of money I would have expected a clean table and clean ashtray, but instead after I had finished my pint, the pot lad came past and swiped it away as soon as I had put it down, while the ash tray was left full and an old glass was on the table for the duration of our visit.

Never going there again, there is no draw and especially at those prices - who do they think their market base is with those prices and poor surroundings/service. My advice is ***AVOID*** until someone sorts out the pricing policy and service.

Ridiculous prices for a pint, 2.70 i think, day light robbery. How do these people sleep?

I was in here the other week. Good place to go. Just watch out for the pissed up irishman who goes by the name of Bow.

I've always like the slug, it's not as busy as the other main drag bars, and I've always thought the staff were friendly. Not sure I get the pretentious comments - it's just a bar, and it's not trying to be anything else.

I love it here!! For a chain bar, I think its great as its never as busy as the places in town, for a quiet Sunday lunch its great to lounge on the sofas with the papers for literally hours, the staff come and serve you whenever and theres no rush to leave even if your coffees finished. Weekends its busier but if you go towards the back there are more seats and you don't have to stand and pose at the front with the rest of them.

Andrew C - Agreemen on the Via Vita point. They used to do a 2 pint cocktail called a "dirty mop" for 6 quid. Probably not the best thing for a first date but grand when your out with the lads.

"It's as pretentious as The Unicorn and Hogshead (the Place) trying to pass themselves off as pubs for the sane"

Bad wording I admit, let me put it another way. Think of the pretence that the Unicorn and the Place have trying to be pubs - you're 100% correct on the burberry reference. This is equivalent to the pretence that the Slug and Lettuice has for being trendy. That is - it's not trendy. I hate this place. The staff are miserable the drinks are expensive. The seating is badly laid out, the missus and I gave it a last chance on Saturday - we turned around and walked straight out. Used to like it when it was Via Vita. But I was younger then!

Harvey - I've tried every establishment in Alty apart from White Lounge and the Faulkner's I refuse to go in both. Opinions are often different. Horses for courses and all that. See you around.

This place is not one bit like the Unicorn or the place, they are scallie/burberry pubs and are not in the least bit pretentious, Please please please go into this places before you try and have an opinion on them or at least try and have a couple of less pints so you can remember what they are like

This isn't full of people who wished they lived in Hale. It's one of the worst places to go on the main drag - some people go thinking it's trendy, it's not, it's a lousy place. It's expensive, usually crowded at the weekends but there is no draw to it. It does not have a unique selling point apart from some punters' ideas that it's trendy.

It's as pretentious as The Unicorn and Hogshead (the Place) trying to pass themselves off as pubs for the sane. Whichever way you want to look at that one.

nice place

staff seem to have gone downhill though, having to explain to them how to mix simple drinks is poor really

decent beers on tap though and comfortable surroundings

bit expensive mind

Possibly the most plastic pretentious place in the good town of alty. Full of people who wish they lived in hale. Beer isnt that bad and the furniture is great as it has more personality than the staff!
Harvey - 20 Apr 2004 16:57
good place

one of the few places in altrincham to serve good vodka and mix decent drinks (most of the people using this site seem to base thier entire opinion of a venue on how goo dthe boddies is)

staff are ok, comfy sofas and bob grieves in the corner every day like it's his house
the bar assasin - 25 Feb 2004 04:09
Typical Slug and Lettuce, although the staff were extremely helpful.
