user reviews of O'Neills, North Finchley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

has the appearance of a small Wetherspoons but it has a better feel and better choice of ales and lagers on. A few LBC brews (their best bitter and 100 Oysters stout were nice) and Tyne Bank brews along with Stiegl lager. Not bad as drinking barns go but still far removed from being a cosy local. There is also a cellar bar area but it was closed off for a private party.

I was fortunate enough to miss the O'Neill's era fro what I read on here and first visited this place in its first incarnation as "The Bohemia" which was very good and sorely missed when it closed a couple of years back. Heard on the grapevine that it had re-opened under the same name but having had a major re-fit which included turning the cavernous unused area at the rear into a micro brewery and adding a bigger kitchen and focus on food. Finally got back here a few weeks ago, and am pleased to report it is now even better than it was before. Nice airy space with enough different types of seating to suit your mood and a pleasant buzz of background chatter. The beers whether brewed on site or guest ales are all very well kept and all of the various pints myself and my friends had (including but not limited to Beer Street and High Rise) were very good and reasonably priced. Extensive range of ciders, bottled beers and spirits are also available including an always welcome Rausch beer (you know the smokey tasting one that nobody ever remembers the full name of) - a personal favourite. Food was good if a little over-priced for portion size. All in all a very good pub. Well worthy of your hard earned beer money.

This was my favourite pub of the day and not what I had expected to find in North Finchley. It is owned by the London Brewing Company and they had 4 of their beers on - Vista, Pumpkin, High Rise & Beer Street. They also had a guest - Windsor & Eton Brew 882 Seattle Porter. There were also 4 ciders - Abrahalls Thundering Molly & Lily The Pink & Barbourne Crimson King & Golden Drop. The Odell Cutthroat Porter with chilli peppers in the pump looked very interesting. But sadly it had just gone off. The bottled beer selection was impressive. The pub itself is a fairly cavernous affair, in a warehouse style. Food served from the open kitchen at the rear appears to be popular. Very good pub.

At last! A decent pub in North Finchley! Now called The Bohemia and a vast improvement on the O'Neill's that preceded it

Popped in tonight and was suitably impressed by the selection of ales on (10+ and many Halloween themed!) The menu looked decent too, though didn't try anything. Distinct lack of dodgy characters who frequent other North Finch pubs, though that could have something to do with the pricing, which is at the higher end of things.

used to be a gr8 spot ! now its gone down hill! was there last night the food took 50mins to be served , half of our order was missing and the rest was either badly burnt or cold!! when we complained to staff we got no response really just nodded and walked off! we asked could they put on bbc1 as liverpool were playing man city they said no. even wit no volume off they said they do not show sports ?wtf ? pub was clean but thats really all i can say on a plus side ! wont be bothered going back .

Average O'Neill's, a bit long and cavernous and it's difficult to find a place for a big group - tables and chairs tend to be in fours and don't really move. But great Smithwicks on tap - a must for lovers of light ales - and passable food.

Not changed Much in the last few years since the last visit still feels far to open planed Even more so now that the middle partition has been removed so theres no cosy corners to sit in making it far too noisy to talk with friends. Not too bad in the early day time but far too noisy in the evenings. What with TVs blasting out sport or Music on loud. Feels too much drinking in an airport lounge because of the open space. No decent Real Ales on Tap just run of the mill stuff and Guinness.

Seems Full of under aged drinkers to me I think there all from the kids bar the Autumn House a few doors away. Ive only been in here twice but found it the worst O'Neills Ive been in its too open with no corners or alcoves you can sit in to talk.
The one at Muswell hill is much better with more Private areas and a bit upstairs as well but don't go in Friday or Saturday evenings it gets to full.

The cleanest O'neills I've ever seen!!!! It's a lot quiter than b4, but staff are friendly and quick. The bouncers are friendly and a lot safer having a lady bouncer. Customers are mixed but well behaved. Don't know who the manager is, but no one else seems to either!!!!

It was pretty empty in here last Thursday.

Run-of-the-mill ONeills that is smaller, but a little cleaner than the one in Muswell Hill.

reopening after a refurb tomorrow (17th august 2006).

they have taken the middle partition that ran down in front of the stage away and tarted it up inside.

I've been drinking at this pub now for a few years, As it is the most happening place on a Saturday in Finchley. It's a great place to go thou, very lively on a Friday & Saturday. Sometimes a live band. Great drink at a good price & easy to get served even when packed. Much better then the Autumn House which is full of posers, and you can't get a pint easy at all.Andy G

Chav land - I like O neils but not this one I got asked for ID then when I went inside it was full of kids. Friend got refused to be served at the bar and the barmaid was all of about 22, friend is 31. Ah maybe its because we werent young enough. Muswell hill O neils is better

Big drinking den for teenagers and undesirables who are not allowed into Autumn House. It's an O'Neill's pub so enough said.

Not too good since Linda left.

Employs some of the most useless barstaff around - the sort that just serve whoever is in front of them at the time.

Packed with sc*m at the weekend too.

sadam hussain is more irish. big slogan on the wall saying "the spirit of ireland". MY ARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
antmcguire - 14 Apr 2005 18:18
the "undesireables" who drank in the now closed cherry tree seem to have migrated over to oneils.
antmcguire - 7 Feb 2005 16:12
Irish pub - there having a laugh. Don't like it myself. Bouncers aren't the best either!
BigBadJohn - 6 Dec 2004 21:22
typical oneils. im not a fan of the chain or of any of these "irish" theme pubs with all that rubbish on the walls.

recently started seving magners in pint bottles which is good. but when asked by a friend about wether they would be showing the final (there was a hurling final on that day) the bar man didnt have a clue.

gets busy on the weekend and the bouncers can be right idiots.

not a bad place u could do worse in finchley but u could do alot better as well

Limited atmosphere.
Lyndon - 12 Jan 2004 17:55
Before becoming a Firkin pub this was a furniture shop, and unfortuately it's maintained about as much atmosphere as it had when they sold sofas. This is a huge barn of a place which tends to fill up with very drunken teenagers if there's a bit match on, but to remain echoingly empty the rest of the day. Perhaps the idea was when it opened that it would become something like a German beer hall, but it hasn't quite come off
