user reviews of The Townhouse, Ealing

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I remember this place from The 70s when it was The Feathers: it was a dump then too, but at least it was open! Get a grip, Fullers: flog it off & get it back up & running!
renzarov - 1 Sep 2012 09:56
This PUB has been closed for nearly Two Years.

You need to update your Web Site.

This has been closed for at least 2-3 years! Someone must want to buy the property?!! Becoming an eyesore and waste of space, shame as it's probably a listed building.

Would make a great Wetherspoons but there is already one of those recently-ish opened over the road.
sdavies - 12 Apr 2011 17:24
Needs to re-open so that it's clientelle aren't inflicted upon the rest of society.
anonymous - 30 Aug 2010 10:15
I saw some activity in there last week. I think it's up for a massive makeover, although at this stage, it would appear nothing short of being bullzozed to the ground would suffice.
E1_Norton - 20 Oct 2009 12:42
Unfortunately they appeared to have been kicked out this morning. So it's back to being used as bugger all.
IanM - 13 Aug 2009 14:56
This is now closed and has turned into a squat, at least it being put to a better use now.
hermannhermann - 12 Aug 2009 17:10
Closed!! At last! Awful place and I didn't even go at night!
Tiny - 7 Aug 2009 12:59
RIP Townhouse. Ok not a classy joint but if you avoided the chaos at weekends then this was a perfectly fine place to meet up in the day. It was a simple drinking pub. Food was pointless (a point that the assisstant manager pointed out to us herself) but the staff were friendly and had enough TVs to watch a game or two. Just a simple no-nonsense boozer that Ealing Broadway now misses. Nothing flash or trendy but sometimes thats what is needed.
housetunes - 6 May 2009 08:36
The only problem with this place closing is that the locals will need to find somewhere else to go......

Apart from that - no major loss.
brodie_bruce - 22 Oct 2008 15:06
Seems to have been closed down, not seen any lights on when going passed in the last 3 weeks. It won't be missed, the last few times I went there, there were too many wannabe gangsters hanging out there who'd been drinking there since the 80s still thinking they're young and hard, except they have beer guts and are looking more like tramps than dons...
w5lioness - 15 Oct 2008 18:08
Closed, and being stripped of contents as seen on Monday 6th Oct.
robhealy - 9 Oct 2008 13:02
Burn this place to the ground!!
jinglebell - 19 Sep 2008 16:31
I spent an early evening in here and found it to be OK. The barman was very polite and my Stella was good. It was the first time Id been in since 1993 and if my memory serves me correctly it hasnt changed much. Reading the previous reviews about the weekend clientele that hasnt changed much either.

This place is scaled at the lower end of Ealing pubs, so no need to go to it.
Strongers - 31 Jul 2008 11:24
Now the smoking ban is here you can stench the men's bogs a mile off. Not even good fot late night drunken Thursday's anymore as they tend to close at 11:30pm
mitsy - 15 Jan 2008 23:37
Who knows this pub might be alright in the day but at night it is truly horrendous. Unbelievably at weekends it has a cover charge and a dress code (I've worn trainers on a night out specifically so I don't end up in here). Still it keeps the Stella drinking, fight starting, R&B loving chavs away from the North Star over the road and for that it should be thanked

scousemouse - 25 Oct 2007 14:53
Bring back muswells
anonymous - 2 Aug 2007 22:28
Smells of wee and the beer is disgusting and you suffer for it the next day
anonymous - 27 Jul 2007 15:43
Strange really - a nice place to relax/watch sport during the day (comfy seats, pool tables, extremely friendly barmaids, etc), but at night it seems like a completely different pub.

I think the current manager/owners are doing their best to shake off the unwanted reputation for drunkenness/unsavoury characters, and although they've made progress, it might take a while longer before they can claim it's changed completely.
liyusnh - 5 Jun 2007 14:16
its claim to be the greatest pub in ealing is laughable-this is a total cess pit and should be avoided at all costs

weston - 30 Apr 2007 14:53
Just arrived from Australia and thought this pub was fantastic. Beautiful old building, good selection of beers, friendy staff and really good food. Id recommend anyone to check it out.
jimdanaman - 25 Apr 2007 19:29
Decent music and a nice chill out area upstairs with a couple of pool tables. Not great to hang out Fri/Sat night though!
MystiKaL - 16 Apr 2007 16:16
The new management & staff seem to be doing there best to improve the reputation of this pub. 2 for 1 drinks offers have been replaced by good food deals in an attempt to encourage a better cross section of clientel. Good for sport with lots of wide screen TVs - give it a chance!
Mike60 - 2 Apr 2007 21:56
Ventured back into here on a Friday. Looks like they've cleaned this venue up. Candles on tables to add ambience ... new manager has got the right idea.
Bar staff seem friendly enough. Also, new DJ I haven't seen before but he drops some wicked tunes & his mixing is spot on. Shame the crowd are so unappreciative.
anonymous - 30 Mar 2007 16:28
seemed pleasant and quiet mid afternoon though not enough ales to wet my appetite, is this the best Ealing has to offer ? (having just been in the chandlers freehouse across the street which really was the pits)
moclips2002 - 16 Feb 2007 18:07
If you want to drink with Meatheads and the plankton of society come to the townhouse. Thoroughly wretched, what more can I say???
erdinger - 24 Nov 2006 12:57
I avoid this place like the plague. A vile place to go in the evening during weekends. It's ok for watching sport in.
szym - 24 Nov 2006 01:58
This pub is ok for a quick pint. Very average Guinness and when it gets busy I think they are only interested in serving youngsters who can't hold their drink.
Wee_Paddy - 9 Nov 2006 09:59
bizarre. its like the new Finnigans. its a pile of shite and therefore attracts bugs!!! you go in there and its unlikely you will leave havng not seen someone you went to nursery/primary school/high school parties with so really its like a tacky reunion which involves a lot of blank expressions as you try and remember someone's name!!! the bar serice is terrible but in the town house its never been any different. tend to avoid it if i can. there are better places to squander your savings!!!
pished - 19 Sep 2006 22:31
its big and it bustles of a weekend. very quiet otherwise. dark, a bit dingy, and utterky towny.
stoichkov - 6 Sep 2006 13:06
One of the worst pubs I have ever been in (and that's saying something).
Broke my usual rule of "don't go to a pub which has bouncers" (purely in the name of research!) - wish I hadn't.
Avoid.
beerlover666 - 17 Aug 2006 17:50
WHY is this place badged as a Fuller's pub when it is owned and run by Laurel? the beer is terrible and you have to know the doorstaff to even get in the bloody place. Will not go back.
robhealy - 17 Aug 2006 17:46
Just too big. Went in there around lunchtime and you could almost hear the echoes.

Sure in the evenings it's heaving, you just wonder why.
EddDanon - 29 Jul 2006 15:08
i've been in here on a few thursday nights recently... the bouncers seemed okay; had a bit of a chat with them. but didnt like the place. music was loud, it was too hot, EVERY urinal was blocked and full to the brim while the drunk chavs kept using them! even though it was busy, after getting to the bar i thought i'd be served withing a few mins given the 5 barstaff on duty; no such luck. i was overlooked on a number of occasions even after being told i was next. could be a good pub... but isnt
Nialljm - 30 May 2006 00:16
The worst pub in Ealing by far. On Friday and Saturday nights, it is the very definition of Hell. Avoid.
C.B - 11 May 2006 13:06
good lash up!!!! even if you have to talk to maxwell!!
anonymous - 30 Jan 2006 20:16
Stopped going here, never really liked it, nearly always seemed like somebody wanted a fight when attempting to the bogs.
s9s - 6 Jan 2006 01:39
I used to go all the time now but they changed the dj and now it seems like the whole of southall turn up there every weekend. the men in there think they can grab any girl they want. Its turned into a dark moody place, I used to go every thursday when possible and admit I did prefer thursday to any night.
Change the music back to pop and garage and house. If you play constant r & b the same mob will turn up every week. And as for the drunk girls throwing up every week they should learn to stop serving people when they have had to much to drink
juicy - 29 Dec 2005 13:05
its only a shame that the Real IRA didn't completely wipe this scally infested scum shack and its mutant inhabitants off the face of the earth, i spit on thee
Meaver - 26 Nov 2005 01:22
As has been suggested, this pub varies tremendously through time. On a Sunday afternoon it's a fairly pleasant if empty bar with a relaxed atmosphere.

However, on weekend evenings it turns into Satan's firey pit of torture. Rammed to the rafters with townies looking for trouble. Should be called the Towniehouse. Far too busy and loud to be fun unless your idea of fun is having your pint spilled by a wasted skinhead and then being beaten up for it.

One night I nipped out to the cash machine around the corner and was charged a fiver to get back in again. Some friends of mine didn't get in because they weren't a couple. Despite the size of the bar the service can often be lacklustre.

I'd say I was too old for this sort of pub, but if that's the case I was too old for it when I was fifteen. It's never appealed. I'll be interested to see how they entice people in there once the licencing laws are relaxed and their 1am licence is no longer a selling point.
pustullio - 28 Oct 2005 17:41
wickid pub if u want 2 ave a gd time
jim1232 - 6 Oct 2005 18:26
great pub havent got a clue the rest of you are on about you are obviously going at the wrong times!!! thursday nights are the most lively n full of younger people so it isnt a old man pub. live dj with good music. upstairs if you want to go 2 a quieter spot. down stairs loud music n dancins usually. n also it a quid 2 get in on thursdays and ony a quid a drink!!! cnt do much better than that n if the barmaid got your aorder wrong its proberly bacause the music is too loud or u were too drunk t remember what you orderd yourself
moysie - 6 Oct 2005 18:15
been in once, never again, barmaid got my drinks order wrong i asked for two diet cokes. She gave me two JD and cokes.Doormen asked us for ten quid to get in one night and i have never been back since.completely souless pub full of people who are looking for fights.
bernard2504 - 22 Sep 2005 11:49
This is a Chav's pub. How pitiful, how sad and plus, we will never get rid of these blooming places ever - it breaks my heart to see these horrid "pubs" or should I say youth hostels, in exixtence.

Pandora - 12 Jul 2005 13:50
Good pub if you are looking for an old indian man for a boyfriend. (not being racist!) Even though this pub attracts older people it can sometimes still be okay. It is rather big, with an upstairs and downstairs. Food is very nice, and they have good drink offers.
anonymous - 23 Jun 2005 12:42
Decent pint of London Pride if you've time to kill before a train out of Ealing Broadway of an afternoon but hell on earth after dark.
realalesnob - 9 Jun 2005 14:54
This is famously the pub that was blown up by the car bomb on Ealing Broadway in August 2001. Even that didn't improve it!
posieflump - 13 Apr 2005 17:55
This is a great place...to avoid if you want a good night out. An embarassment to Ealing.
DaveEngland - 23 Feb 2005 21:01
Agree with Bobby, probably the worst pub ever. Seems like Fridays & Saturdays they have a special drunken idiots party. Avoid if possible, there are more and better options and just around the conrner.
anonymous - 15 Feb 2005 19:00
Great place to go to if you're looking for fat sweaty men. Anyone visiting on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening would be advised to take a bucket, since it takes about an hour to negotiate your way to the toilets. Just as long to get to the bar, and still no ales. Music is too loud, so conversation is out of the question, air conditioning doesn't seem to work so the smell of armpits remains all night. Probably the worst pub in the world.
Bobby - 1 Nov 2004 13:33
Can't tell you anything about the Townhouse 'cos haven't been let in recently. Only young, stupid couples allowed in, it appears. Only advantage is a midnight licence but you might as well go to the Bell instead when you need that.
Jon - 30 Aug 2004 00:58
Big cavernous dive..
TheGP - 12 Aug 2004 14:15
Cattle market. Full of pissed up lads looking for a fight. Watching the bouncers battling with the local meat-heads is entertaining for a little while, but gets boring after a while.
Johnno - 23 Jul 2004 10:09
All the comments left throughout January and upto Feb sound like they have been written by staff clutching at straws to promote this place!! Sorry but if you are looking for a place with atmosphere good music and booze in Ealing. AVOID!! We gave this place enough chances but still no improvement. And as for the bouncers............NO COMMENT!
Lara-Jane - 3 Jun 2004 22:21
When I visited, the pub only sold lager....so a Fullers pub with no ESB or Pride. I couldn't wait to get out of the place.
Bob - 26 Apr 2004 22:54
New door crew not as good as other lot.We girls like to know we're protected but don't feel safe anymore.Music good an staff ok but gona look for somewhere else on our saturday nights.
laura - 1 Apr 2004 11:43
On weekends the atmosphere is so bad that you only have to stand outside if you're looking for a fight on a Saturday night. Just about alright during the day, if you're in Ealing and have nothing better to do.
burnsy - 27 Feb 2004 14:32
good food, nice staff and great atmosphere on the weekends, late licence and loud music what more could you want for a friday or saturday night
tamsin - 6 Feb 2004 19:38
I cant comment on weekends but weeknights when I have frequented this pub have been disappointing. Its has no atmosphere which is very disappointing for a fullers. It seems to attract the worst clientele I have seen. Basically a stop off if the tube has problems.
emma - 2 Feb 2004 22:28
Doorstaff have now changed management and a new policy of no hooded top, tracksuits or trainers will be allowed, and we have also enforced random searches. We are here to make your night enjoyable and safe. Also big thanks to everyone involved with the Abstrakt Mindz night.
management - 2 Feb 2004 01:54
I think it is a cool place, yeah you get some plonkers, but you get them where ever you go. as long as you have the right attitude and are going there for a drink and a giggle, then you are in safe hands. good music great DJ's and above all, good bear!
Wookie - 28 Jan 2004 20:22
31st January 2003, the ultimate night with Abstrakt Mindz showcase, with the legendary and famous supreme london and essex renowned DJ - DJ XL, joined by the talented DJ Culture and supported by DJ Sammy, The Exorcist, and M Groove with Amazing visuals, backdrops uv's, and impressive sounds. Arrive early from 8pm till 1am. Townhouse will rock

Richard - 28 Jan 2004 20:21
forgot to mention that there exists an over 21 admittance policy which is strictly adhered to - also that loutish behaviour seems to transcend peoples'occupational status or fashion inclinations(sorry, not everyone can afford Armani, though many of the customers can). The Town House patrons truely represent the vibrancy and diversity of London's population which is why it's vibrant, sexy and the place to be for a brilliant night out..and the women aren't "slappers"(how sexist!), just inspired by the shere passion of the place..and the wonderful door crew of course!
Ty - 19 Jan 2004 16:57
this has got to be the place to go to in ealing. The atmosphere's great, the staff are really friendly and the door crew are very professional, welcoming and always act within the law. They make an effort to interact with customers on the door whilst at the same time dealing effectively with troublemakers, who would interfere with people out to have a genuinely good time. They also help to secure taxis for single and groups of women and introduce themselves to the drivers so that the passengers feel a greater sense of security. It's only the trouble makers out to sabotage everybody's enjoyment, who really have anything to worry about. Look out for the karaoke and salsa nights coming soon!
Ty - 18 Jan 2004 18:47
What a superb night 17th January.
Place had no attitude and the music was right. Liquid was there and they played a blinder.
Watch out for the 31st January, Abstrakt Mindz, Stunning Visuals, Lights, Glow bracelets, whistles, cd's and champagne being given away. Come and enjoy
Richard - 18 Jan 2004 12:45
What a great pub for a weekend atmosphere. DJ's thta play upfront music well before it even gets released, with the like of Liquid - Sweet Harmony and DJ Sammy - Heaven playing there live along with other top names like DJ Culture. In question to the 5 being charged at the door after is an attempt to stop all the drunk idiots falling out of other bars and coming in to get a last drink before 1am, so if you moan about the money arrive earlier. Th upsatirs section shuts at 11 due to the fact that the license is only available till then but that will hopefully be changed this year and if you don't go out on saturday night weraing jeans and trainers and smarten yourself up, this venue is great for warming yourself up for the major nightclubs. House, Garage, RnB, Drum n Bass and Commerical Old Skool are all played and the staff are friendly. The door team has changed and do not go looking for a fight, they prevent them and we have strict codes in place in the dj booths and behind the bar when an argument does kick off. So if you are up for loud enjoyable music of a thursday to saturday night come down. On saturday come and have a chat to me at the DJ Stand and watch out for 31st January which will be a fun night.
djculture1210 - 17 Jan 2004 08:31
Peoples comments are wrong and the pub has a license on the upstairs floor till 11.00pm and the downstairs till 1am. People who are obviously rascist or not looking for a bar as a warm up to their clubbing by wearing trainers and looking scruffy will not get in and the door policy by charging 5 after 11 is too right as if you want to get in free arrive earlier not when you are drunk and falling out of a pub down the road. The music on a saturday night is not behind in the 90's as all the tunes are probably so upfront you haven't heard them yet, and we put on showcase DJ's including Liquid - Sweet Harmony, M-Groove, DJ Culture, DJ Sammy, and other top names. So if you are looking for a good bar which is full of people who enjoy themselves and like a good time why not visit and change your mind. Don't go out looking for trouble and trouble will not find you.
Richard Wood - [email protected] - 17 Jan 2004 00:20
Nothing new to add. Mobbed on Fri/ Sat nights. Functional on other evenings. Relatively pleasant during the day. It's only popular because of its late license. The sooner the laws change and these places have to offer something decent to compete, the better.
Ruby - 8 Nov 2003 00:22
5 to get in after 2300, Oh please!! Full of Ben Sherman shirt wearers and Very cheap looking young women, who are being pursued by local asian guys looking for an easy ride. Avoid unless you are truly desperate!!!!!
Ella - 15 Oct 2003 22:41
At night this is the worst pub in Ealing. Perhaps in the UK. Bouncers always seem to be looking for a fight, really slow service, overcrowded with sweaty teenagers, music too cheesy and too loud, poor choice of beer.
Andrew - 8 Oct 2003 16:29
I've also been turned away for wearing trainers here. I think that speaks volumes. You're ok if you're a Ben Sherman with shiny loafers, a crop and an attitude. I don't really like it in there anyway. Still, it's serves an essential purpose of giving the more unpleasant under-age drinkers of Ealing somewhere to go so the rest of us don't have to put up with them.
Stuart - 27 Aug 2003 14:55
Don't like this place. I've been turned away for wearing trainers before, and threatened by the asian gangs that seem to congregate inside. Avoid. There are better pubs round the corner.
chopperbomb - 17 Jul 2003 17:53
Fri / Sat night it's packed over 2 floors...then at 11 the bouncers stand at the top of the stairs and push everyone down. All the people who wont fit simply fall out onto the street, and everyone else is left like battery hens who can't get to the bar! This place doesn't have a dress code as such, although I think you have to be in possession of a Vauxhall Nova or Fiesta XR2 to get in. Bleedin' marvellous...if that's what floats your boat, but it doesn't mine!
Mart - 14 Jun 2003 08:54
The opposite of cosy, this pub is so big yet so quiet on weekdays it's like drinking in a disused warehouse. I agree with everything Baj said, this is a pub of 2 extremes.

alf - 30 Apr 2003 14:15
Remember when this place opened about 10 years ago, it was "Ealing's premier pub". Times have moved on and this place is still stuck in early 90's. Unless you want to play pool (upstairs) avoid.
Gary - 28 Apr 2003 12:10
2 floors open, then at 23h00 they herd everyone down stairs to 1 floor. Very clever. Pissed and pushed about - not a recipe for disaster.
Allan - 15 Apr 2003 17:01
A pub of 2 halves. Busy on weekend evenings, but on weekdays its almost dead. Lots of tv's to watch the football on but in stupid places, they never turn the commentry up above 2 decibles and the drinks are too expensive. On the plus side, the staff are friendly, the beer is good and its next to the train station :)
Baj - [email protected] - 17 Jan 2003 17:35
This Pub has cahnaged allot since Feb 01. Its now fully refurbished with a Big screen for football and 2 new pool table deserves more than a 7 9 at least
