please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It's amazing that in all my years drinking in Manchester, I never knew this place actually existed! Talk about a hidden treasure?

Not sure if the caved walls are authentic or not, but it has a definite vibe and chilled out feel. As most previous reviewers have rightly pointed out - jukebox is cracking.

Only negative is the prices - £3.50 a throw. Ouch!

Awesome pub.
You want character? You want Manchester? Then this is your place.
Great Jukebox, great atmosphere. Can't fault it.
I wish I lived in the center so I could frequent daily.

Corbiere's just carries on being Corbiere's, a great place to hide away from the world. The only thing that's changed in years is the smoking ban - just as well, as the place has no windows! Just one cask ale, usually Bazens' Pacific - and it's no longer contaminated with that peculiar smokey taste, that's gone. Good, cheap food available up to 4 p.m. or so. I particularly like the quesadilla with refried beans (3.75 inc salad).

I like this pub, it's different, like the Star Wars Cantina. As I've mentioned previously. They should drop the Wine Bar title as it isn't And the outside decor looks like an 80s 'live at Jongleurs setting', it isn't.

PLEASE NOTE - Please change the Pacific Bitter, it;'s absolutely vile and has been for at least 19 months, taste's and stinks of smoke really, really badly. I have complained, I'd dare any member of staff to sample it!!

good place, good looking, good jukebox, so lets make the only ale on tap something decent please! My shout would be for Manchester brewed Marble beers which is THE best beer in town and criminally only served in 2-3 pubs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great drinking hole (literally). Always has an interesting selection of beers and a diverse clientele. Tends to keep a low profile itself which suits as it tends to be more the people in the know. Can be a bit loud when the jukebox is cranked up

Manchester's finest subterranean drinking den? It certainly is. The Bazen's Pacific is always on good form. Good selection of wines for the other half. A great jukebox AND a pinball machine. I only wish the other handpump was in use more often though.

Bit of a misnomer-there's nothing pretentious about this hidden gem, nor is there a focus on wine. Whilst feeling more like a bar than a pub, it is not devoid of character. It doesn't attract the usual alcopop-sipping posers, rather people who like their music and beer. Great jukebox and 3-4 ales to choose from. Decent food served throughout the day too. More somewhere to go in the evening though if i'm honest, when it starts to get more of an atmosphere. Go there-if you can find it!

A great little place, as said below no 'Sharon and Darren's' in this place, jukebox is famous, and there's always something decent on whenever I've been in, it's like the Cantina in Star Wars!

Only snag is the choice of Ale, could be better.

Top music-ask em to pump it up..lots of old manchester bands...beer quality can vary-but still a manchester institution....my funniest visit here was @ 18 months ago, when I got trapped on a shopping trip ,as they decided to run a formula 1 circuit down market, cross, john dalton st & Deansgate...I'm stuck in the middle after saying Hello to some of Mr Waterstones books...Thank God for Corbieres beers $ jukey, otherwise I'd have been ....well-..soberer!
EdgarBriggsMI5 - 2 Aug 2007 01:42
Until recent visit, hadn't been in for several years. Hasn't changed much though from what I can see. The good news is that a very good pint of Pacific was had for 2. (Face from behind the bar ex-Kings Arms would explain this). Looks to have a very good affordable menu and I know from others that the food is respected.
the_amsterdam_man - 30 May 2007 22:14
Jukebox is about the best i've ever seen or heard. Serves real ale too. Great atmosphere.
GeorgeXXIII - 13 Nov 2006 18:37
Great place when quiet, mint jukebox, serves Superbock!!! However it is horrible when full simply because it gets so hot in there. So please stay away so I dont melt next time Im in there ;-)
superbocksuperstar - 4 Nov 2006 19:32
Vastly over-rated pub which does little to deserve the praise unfairly heaped on it. It's hard to find anywhere to sit and the range of beers leaves a lot to be desired. Make the right decision, try somewhere like "Cask" on Liverpool Road..Better jukebox-better beers-better atmosphere!

Always stinks of piss and the juke box is shit.

Only joking.

About the juke box I mean,it really does stink of piss.

31 now and been going in corbs. since i was 18. Many bars and pubs in the st. annes square vicinity have been an gone in recent years. Corbs., due to consistent quality has stayed, great atmosphere, good lowenbrau, great jukebox (even the missus likes it in corbs!)even good for going in on your own with a paper for a quick jar. Cannot deliver enough platitudes about this place, quality, just quality.
kipster3000 - 13 Jan 2006 22:21
one of the best kept secrets in manchester, this is a cool bar with a brilliant jukebox. I would reccomend the cajun chicken pizza and the salads are good too. In the evening its busy and full of people having a good time!
mmmpktge - 26 Dec 2005 22:17
if this place was in the northern quarter it'd be called cool but instead it just IS cool.
after a lull a couple of years back the jukebox keeps getting better - everything from kinks to kings of leon, the fall to frank sinatra, old manc like the roses to new manc like the nine black alps. gonna be down there to relive some memories (and make some new ones) before the happy mondays gig this weekend! join me! :-)

For a bar that not many people seem to know it always seems full. Still the best juke box the world has heard, food that is worth every bead of sweat shed to earn the money that buys it. The decor lends to the atmosphere that means you're aware you are drinking somewhere special. The number 1 must to start your drinking education.

corbieres is the coolest bar in manchester, its like going into another world once you reach the bottom of the steps, the staff and the customers are all friendly, this is 1 bar that you wont find 'attitude' in.the bar menu is excellent and good value for money, some tasty looking guys drink here, dont be shy if you only ever go in there once its worth a look but that first visit wont be your last.

one of the best pubs/bars in manchester - truly excellent jukebox. Shame you cant get more people in at the weekend - it gets packed!!But that kinda makes for a better atmosphere in a way....

Oooh Corbires .. Just one word, ladies and gentlemen - (absolutely) FANDABIDOZI !!! I must have spent a fair wad of cash in here over the years in this bars pre-lizard on the wall days and, aside from the addition of the aforesaid cuddly reptiles, nothing much has changed - and that is a GOOD thing!

Go down the stairs and its an absolute God-send from the world outside: dark & dingy, yet warm, safe and friendly atmosphere. The raggedy old juke box (raggedy in a loveable Bagpuss way) plays predominantly indie tunes. Although I personally have rather eclectic taste it is absolutely fine just the way it is - its like the cinnamon sprinkles in my latt: compliments it perfectly; I wouldnt change a thing.

I havent been for a number of months at the time of writing. I would LOVE to be able to lounge in there for hours on end every week but I have been saving for exotic travels (hence no beer money), and scripts to learn (hence no spare time). I also dont like my normally hard as ice heart melting and distracting me in a manner which could only lead to tears (!), which leads me to the BEST reason for any ladies reading this to visit if they have never been before -

The bar manager, Phil, is the most gorgeous, yummiest bloke I have ever seen in my LIFE! If he didnt already have a girlfriend, and if I were a stunner, I wouldnt hesitate in pursuing him!!!!! Mmmmmm

Overall I would give the place 10/10. Hope Ive been helpful. x

maire evans - 24 May 2004 15:12
great bar and great music but why does there always seem to be some sick on the floor and the tiolets could do with a clean
Jack - 29 Mar 2004 15:09
Well, I only decided to visit this place because of seeing it on here, and I'm glad I did! Once we found it, and headed (slightly nervously) down the battered stairs into nowhere, we were greeted with a place that seems like the results of a crash between a bar and a Mexican restaurant, with a cafe stuck on the side

Got to agree with the other comments here - the jukebox was great, and the people and staff were friendly. Only down sides; it can get a bit smokey (but hey, you're underground!), and there was no real ale on when I went in (though there are two pumps). Glad we found it!

The best pub in town when i was young free and single many years ago and still the first port of call on our infrequent tours of the town
brads - 17 Feb 2004 15:18
Been going in for years and is one of Manchester's best kept secrets

THE best pub in town for a few pints in the afternoon while out shopping.................

But beware you will end up staying all night!!

quality jukebox, quality atmosphere, quality food

also the venue for one of Happy Mondays earliest gigs in 1985 pop-pickers!!
nigel - 21 Jan 2004 08:35

I spent the whole of Live Aid day in this bar, avoiding the telly. It has always had a cracking juke box and after revisiting it 12 months ago, after a gap of some years, was disturbed to find it had switched to a new-fangled CD machine. No worries, it's still class. (Although I miss Dennis Edwards' 'Don't Look Any Further')
Get on it.
Paul Day - 16 Dec 2003 14:09
