A nice pitstop after a visit to either chartwell or ightham more nearby. Excellent pint of copper nob, and a few other ales on too. Didn't eat but saw a bloke happily tucking in to an enormous piece of fish, so looked good. Popular with families but not to the detriment of a relaxing drink as the garden is pretty big.

Restaurant empty, saloon bar can only fit about 5 people, public bar was a creche/nursery for the day I visited, 4 yr olds running amok behind the bar.
Lovely Eucalyptus tree in the garden though for a bonus point

Had lunch here last Saturday.
Menu fairly French, but friendly barmaid and priprietor were both English.
Food excellent and reasonably priced.
There is a remarkably cheap set menu.
Decent Doom Bar and selection of wines by the glas.
Only one complaint-it was a cold day and the place was freezing,to the extent that it was only just bearable.

Went in just before xmas and a few times since.
Absolutely fantastic food not expensive have been to the other locals and found them overpriced with limited menus. Went in with 2 children who are between adult and kids menu so staff arranged for meal off the menu and still not overcharged. Real log fire was on with a family atmosphere , the new people have made it really homely very different to past owners. Gave us choice of sitting in restaurent or by fire we chose the fire. Made sure we were happy with food without being intrusive and checked about drinks refills. Will be going back and would highly recommend to others already have in fact. We neeeded a place like this here, although I would drive to get the really delicious food we have been served.

The pub's changed hands (possibly more than once) since the last review. I was in there just after the present incumbents had taken over, and things hadn't really settled down. But they seemed to be working along the right lines, and if the pub hasn't become too entirely food based (which is always a danger, and often a death-knell) it looked like having a chance of success. I hope so, because I like the place.

I found this pub very quiet, but more in a funereal than a relaxing way. The building is ideally situated for a local, being at the heart of this busy village, but the business isn't what it could be. The interior is basic and tyraditional, but the reception is unfriendly and grudging. Presentation fo the food was poor; it looked very unappetising but was surprisingly tasty - basicv and wholesome. The Young's Best was off, but the Fullers was slightly better. In all, a very ordinary pub which I wouldn't go out of my way to find but which is OK for a drop-in lunch.

Paid this a visit recently and was pleasantly surprised. Very quiet pub with friendly service and log fire next to some comfortable sofa's. Beer is Youngs and London Pride plus Fosters and Stella. No Cider on tap which is unusual, but I guess if nobody wants it there's no point stocking it! Food is cheap and cheerful, but good value. A Thai restaurant is due to open here in the next couple of months.

The land lady and land lord of this place used to run the Castle Hotel in Eynsford which was a real dive. Hopefully they won't bring this potentially good pub down to the level of the former, although I suspect some of the regulars of the Castle are already infiltrating!!!

gone out of business!!!

I must apologise for failing to close my brackets at least twice in my previous review (25 Jan. 2008 : close brackets). My only excuse can be an excess of the good Young's at the King's Head.

Seemed cosy and comfortable on my fleeting visit

Didn't pay much attention to the restaurant section, though the pub did the trick, nice Youngs, and the tv although off looked nice

If you go here on Sunday lunchtime you will find that, like probably the majority of pubs in this part of the world, most of the punters are there to eat; but to suggest, on this basis, that this is not a real pub is simply misleading.
The little bar in the middle has a real traditional public bar feel (though , being Sevenoaks, you won't find many heavy industrial workers or mud-shod sons of the soil drinking there at any given time). The restaurant to the left is, indeed, a restaurant. The other bar, on your right, has tables at which you can eat(as many cutomers do, from quite an interesting, though not inexpensive menu. It also, however, has a bar-billiards table, which you won't find in a lot of restaurants; and at present, regrettably, a large-screen T.V. showing, when I was there, some obscure African football tournament, in which, to their credit, none of those present seemed to have the least interest.
The beer (Adnams, Youngs, Sheps) was excellent (the Youngs, anyway - I didn't try the others, though not cheap.
This place deserves massive credit for bucking the trend and reverting from a period as a rather second rate restaurant to being again a real pub, despite previous opinions to the contrary.

Have to agree that this is not really a pub, with just a miniscule drinking area. The restaurant area is grubby and dated. The food we had was OK, however everything is on the menu is on specials board on the other side of the pub!!!

We also got attacked by wasps inside the pub! I am guessing their must be a nest in the garden as there were loads!

This is not really a pub on a Sunday when we visited. More a restaurant with just a tiny bar for drinkers which is a shame as the Adnams was very good and the general ambience first class especially as the pub is smoke free.Maybe for the rest of the week it converts back into a pub which would be good

I cant believe that no one has written a review which this pub deserves....it is a fabulous pub. Great in the summer with a lovely garden and you are always made to feel welcome. And the food is out of this world, they have the most amazing garlic king prawn starter ! Seriously, if you fancy a good meal in a lovely friendly atmosphere go to the Kings Head. Fab fab fab.

Since Tim B. wrote, there's much more positive to say. It's become a real drinkers' local (in the small cosy front bar) and also a roomy comfortable meeting place for all sorts, serving good food. The beer (Shep's, Young's, Adnams, etc) has always been in first class nick when I've been there, which isn't often enough.

Used to be a popular pub, got loads of passing trade and popular with locals. That was a while ago.

Then the M25 was built and fewer people stopped. It turned into a Spanish restaurant for a bit. Now open most evenings.
