Great choice of beer. Had Arundel "Trident" but the Langham "Sundowner" was a superb summer ale. Not quite sure why I don't pop in more often as it's comfotable place - maybe the prices?

A superb place! Great selection of ales;and very impressed by the Stout,BLACK WILLIAM. Good and sunny front bench seating to watch the world go by and enjoy my cigar.
Very friendly young fella serving too. I shall return!
Incidently the above photo bears no resemblance to its present guise. Update the picture please?

As mentioned a very nice pub with a real focus on ales. But it loses sever marks as there prices are sky high. I had a lovely pint of kings and i really do object to payiny 3.50. I happen to know how much they pay for some of their beers and this is not far off daylight robbery. In their defence they are run by indigo and much like Drink inn Brighton they are far too expensive for ale!

In Brighton on buiness so I thought I would be nosey. Got to say I'm impressed all Sussex beers had a dark called locomotive it was divine! A little pricey but pleasant staff very good beer glad I called in.

Visited yesterday for the first time since rebranding back to Temple Bar. Interior seems to have been redesigned slightly to give a large island bar which works pretty well. 8 handpumps of which 7 were on, offering a great choice of beer, all from Sussex breweries. Only downside was the prices - ale ranged from 3.20 to 3.50.

Now re-branded back to the Temple Bar. Whether it stocks real ale remains to be seen.

No proper beer available yesterday, just the usual Luton-brewed bogus imports. Had to find another pub for a group of friends to meet in. The Temple Bar was as grim as hell but at least you could get a pint.

Shame they had to re-name this place as it had been the Temple Bar for well over a hundred years. However, the staff seem very friendly and they've now started serving (well kept) Harveys. Very busy at weekends, but you'd expect that on the main road. Worth a visit.

is this pub now called the Star & Sailor ?

stefgreen - 27 Apr 2008 14:11
Re-opened as Star & Sailor minus the screens and pool tables as a gastro-type-pub and has suffered as a result. Another example of rip-off Brighton; 3.20 for Guinness and 3.10 for Becks Vier all served up with an air of indifference by the barman who was struggling to keep his eyes open. Fake.

Closed at the moment for a major refit & looks like it will open under a new name

Yes , I'd score this pub high to, nice u shape to the area, and one of the few pubs that CAN serve a top notch pint o Guiness, Food is good, very very busy on footy nights, seating is qwaint but few, Landladys very nice and is involved with the customers oftern. Toilets r ok 2. A good drop in pub for shoppers and alike

Sausage and mash in a giant Yorkshire pudding - need I say more?!

A great pub for all needs, the upstairs pool room is perfect with it's 2 tables and own bar and toilets. Downstairs there is plenty of seats and the food is pretty good.
The only thing i would say about it is try to avoid it if there is a big match on and you're not the biggest footy or rugger fans, you could find yourself a bit lost with nowhere to sit and you'll be shouting over the crowd.
Great atmosphere.

Very good, especially for footy on big screen and normal TV's though get there early for a seat. Good atmosphere. The down side is Man City have taken to losing all their games now (hello jim!)

top pub this. when man city are on telly they always show it and if i can't get to the game then i go to the temple where i know i can watch the game in good company. the yorkshire pudding stuffed with sunday lunch is worth getting out of bed for and the smile on the face of the girl with the tattoo is consolation enough if we get beat...

What a great pub!!! plus the lasagne was awsome... i would wait for 6 hours for one of them.... plus the staff were so friendly and helpfull.. there was one girl with flicky hair, she was lovely and made my pint of hoegarrden go down a treat... i recomend this place to anyone...

Dear Jackie, I left the previous comment, and I wasn't rude in the pub once, although I would have been well within my right to have been, my friend was maybe a little rude but made justified comments, and I didn't get my money offered back. If your friend got upset, she shouldn't have lied about the wait for the food.
James - 24 Sep 2002 10:15
Dear Jackie
Hate to jump on the email bandwagon but feel duty bound to stick up for my mate. There were a few of us in the pub and we all had to wait over an hour and a half for food- we'll let that go as it was a busy weekend. When our food finally arrived there were two lasagnes missing so after waiting that long the boys were obviously not pleased. Maybe the girl who got upset shouldn't have told my mate that she thought he was joking when he ordered the lasagnes- what do you think?
Melody - 24 Sep 2002 09:52
In reply to the customer that complained about the lasagne, I was working at the Temple bar that day and I have never come across a ruder customer in all my working days. It happened to be the weekend of the fat boy slim concert so we were run off our feet but doing our best. In our defense, the customers were told it could be up to and hour and a half for food and we also offered his money back. Knowing he could not get any food anywhere else in Brighton he decieded to stay. He made one of the staff members extremely upset and personally attacked me. If I had a choice I would've asked him to leave for abuse.

bar staff were really friendly when we were there, even though the place was packed.
anne - 30 Jul 2002 19:59
Absolute crap, had to wait 2 hours for a bloody lasagne, and it was shit. Didn't even get my money back
James - 16 Jul 2002 11:55
fantastic bar manager...simply the best customer service around
ben - 4 Jul 2002 16:55
Sounds like its had a mjor transformation over the years? It used to be a seriously rough pub, although good to see pub with pool tables in town!
Jon - 25 Jun 2002 19:47
The Temple Bar really is a refreshing change in Brighton, a perfect place to relax with mates in the evening, bask in the sun in the summer and watch the footie. Excellent food, sunday roasts and fry ups are not to be missed.
