user reviews of the Inn on the Green, Hanwell

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Finally got to this pub on Wednesday evening. It's now called Green W7. The name doesn't sound too promising. But this is still a pub and not some cocktail bar or similar. On first sight, the ale range looked quite promising with 5 or 6 pumpclips. But closer inspection revealed that they had followed the Wetherspoon's example by putting "coming soon" on some of them. Alas, there were 3 ales - Twickenham Redhead & Sundancer & Timothy Taylor Landlord. There are better local pubs. But this one was better than I was expecting.

I hear some exciting things are going to be happening here, will review in the next couple of weeks...

Inn on the Green is now open. Fiona and Trevor are working to pick the place up after a run of bad management and doing a great job. Karaoke on Sunday nights which is always popular, plus other occasional music or themed events. Definitely somewhere to start returning to.
AJR - 11 Sep 2011 17:38
The Inn on the Green as it is now called was closed on our Friday evening visit. A notice on the door mentioned 'licensing' problems. Looks as if it might re-open. But I'm not sure when.
blue_scrumpy - 17 Jul 2011 11:53
Stripped down look. Barman happy to chat but both the Pride and the Spitfire were indifferent at best.
GuideDogSaint - 4 Jul 2011 22:31
Now called the Inn on the Green.

Wow, what a difference since my lat visit. The rat like dog that liked to wee in the bar area - gone. Bad managers - gone. Bad clients - gone. Bad beer - gone.

In return, it's had a much needed internal makeover and the atmosphere in there now is unbelieveable. Will be going back. Happy days.

Visited the dolphin yesterday and what a change! Been redecorated since my last visit and now so much brighter and cleaner especially the toilets. Atmosphere was relaxed and cosy with leather sofa's and open fire's. The staff there are really friendly and extremely helpful! Offering good pub grub now -bonus! Well worth a visit!!!
Peronipete - 21 Jan 2011 22:19
I've been to the Dolphin since the change of management and it seems to me that the place is holding i'ts own. Ha d a good beer and a chat with old and new managers. Very relaxed and a pub worth frequenting.
yunk - 16 Jan 2011 11:36
I went in the Dolphin the other day and realised that the owners have left the pub just after a few months, this place was a fantastic place to go but now the owners have left it seems as tho the place has changed because of the atmosphere. When i first arrived at the pub it was a very negative atmosphere but as soon as the new guys took over its totally changed! Me and my family felt very comfortable in there until they left but now unfortunately since they have left the atmosphere has changed dramatically! Because Hanwell is a very small community already i have heard that the new owner is not as welcoming as the previous owners so i would not recommend drinking in there!!! GO TOO THE FOX!!!!!!!!!!!
BIGD01 - 13 Jan 2011 19:02
just heard the new management team have already left after only a couple of months. Not sure of the reasons but very sad for the locals as they seemed to be doing a great job and were well liked.
trueblue539 - 12 Jan 2011 12:22
This pub is on the up. When I first moved to the area it was best avoided; just by looking at the people hanging around outside you'd want to stay well clear of this pub, However it now does a good pint if you're a real ale fan - Spitfire and Kent's Best were both on tap and very drinkable, Had a Roast Sunday lunch in there which was good and reasonably priced too.
durrant - 13 Dec 2010 13:14
popped in during week lovely pint nice staff a bit dark inside spoke to new guv he seemed like a good geezer. i will definately be going back
pgriffin70 - 26 Aug 2010 22:03
Pub is on the up and up. Problem clientelle are diminishing and the food is good quality and low priced. Watch out for this one!
yunk - 22 Aug 2010 22:10
UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT as of last Friday.
New Landlord is a really nice bloke, well known in the area, and intends to work on the pub to bring it back to it's family friendly origins. Kitchen is going to be run by local company soon. Give it a go soon.
yunk - 9 Aug 2010 15:50
oh today was a great day in the dolphin.

just the type of thing for all the family.the sooner this landlordand his chavvy customers go the better.

freddiethefruit3 - 29 Jun 2010 17:42
good pint of Becks.
sadly full of chavs and wrong 'uns suspect drug dealing..people who can't talk without shouting!christ knows how the people over the road put up with it.
a dog/rat that yaps and pisses eveywhere.charming your gonna get a kicking atmosphere!
the worst pub in the area.bar none.
freddiethefruit3 - 27 May 2010 13:33
Oh dear! Where do I start !?!

Visited Thursday 1st April and seems like the joke was on me. Pub was practically empty and easy to see why. London Pride should have come with a health warning. It was by far the worst I've had the misfortune to drink and was responsible for my dodgy stomach that night the following morning.

What capped it off was when a rat like terrier made it's way into the bar area, cocked it's leg and urinated in the bar!!!

I will not be going back until I am 100% certain that this is under new management.
Hanwale - 7 Apr 2010 07:59
what was the john smiyhs like?
littlejackhorner - 14 Oct 2009 23:58
To be honest, i thought it was Andrea and Nigel but to be honest it doesn't matter to me. I just care about the John Smith's.
pubspot - 14 Oct 2009 22:22
IS THE LANDLADY HANWELLS ANSWER TO BET LYNCH?HAD A HANGOVER,THAT VOICE WENT RIGHT THROUGH ME,HAD TO GO TO MC CANNS UP THE ROAD.ILL GIVE IT ANOTHER GO WHEN IM SOBER!
littlejackhorner - 14 Oct 2009 18:50
Been away working for the last two months and went in again the other night and its not as busy as it was but nor are a lot of the surrounding pubs. But I did see faces in others that were in the Dolphin on my last visit. So, presume they have moved on!!!

Really suprised that Andrea wasn't the landlady as Nigel and her were always together laughing and drinking in other local pubs. Beer wasn't bad but the little rat running around the pub is a put off.
user2933 - 7 Oct 2009 14:58
new landlady and landlord are sally and nigel not nigel and andrea!
sally.wibberley - 20 Aug 2009 00:47
Went in for the first time in months, Walters gone replaced by a lovely young couple Nigel and Andrea. They made us feel really welcome will definately be going back.
user2933 - 23 Jul 2009 09:47
Went in a few weeks back, dead as a doornail in there and took ages to get served. Was early in the day though so no worries.

Pub has loads of potential and possibly now home to the tiniest dog in the world.
EskimoJoe - 20 Jul 2009 16:40
Went in for the first time since the management change last weekend. Massive improvement in the beer and the new landlady's a delight. If you've not been in for a while please give it another go. I doubt you'll regret it.
realalesnob - 10 May 2009 18:29
Revisited last week with the family, made to feel welcolme. The Sunday Roast was excellent!! Certainly going back again. Great to see a pub on the up these days, tryed a London Pride to start with, then had one of the two Rebellion beers on offer, both kept well.
Peronipete - 8 May 2009 22:33
Walter was quite funny though. Not been in since he left but sounds like I should. Always been a fan.
realalesnob - 28 Apr 2009 20:09
Suddenly got a whole lot better now Walter has left, better atmosphre as new landlords are really friendly. Some of the prices have even been reduced which is always good news. They have some intresting plans for the future including intoducing more real ales, so looking forward to getting a good well run local.
Peronipete - 9 Apr 2009 06:35
Not a bad little pub when the telly's off and very good for holding celebrations etc. Landlady does a good and very reasonably priced buffet for you. Quiet mostly but gets busier on music nights. Lagers good and the one real ale is kept well.
yunk - 23 Aug 2008 23:32
Nice pub if the male landlord was not so rude, the food is fantastic and the lady who cooks it runs the kitchen and the pub very well.

Locals stop going there due the the fact they do not like abusive and rude comments made when they go for a meal or a drink.

Would not be a loss to the pub if Walter did not work there.
happy.man - 26 Feb 2008 14:35
Strange pub, staff and locals unfriendly. The beer is okay but the place needs to change it's attitude.
jgill49723 - 25 Feb 2008 17:52
Not bad. Usually a comfy seat free & you can avoid the sport on TV, if you want to (which I always do). Basic pub grub is OK, staff are pretty friendly, OK patio for the summer. Good for a quiet local pint.
5ue - 21 Dec 2007 23:08
I tend to agree with the comments above; however they do 35ml measures if you are into top shelf action;cant possibly compete with the fox just down the road.
weston - 29 Jun 2007 11:15
Not a bad pub just a bit quiet and dark. The regulars and staff aren't overly welcoming in my experience.

The beer garden is nice in the summer though.

Not a favourite.

EskimoJoe - 4 Jun 2007 15:26
Only recently discovered the Dolphin.

Went in on a Saturday night and we were only two of four people in there.

Returned last Sunday and there were probably 10 or so.

Regardless, the decor is excellent, it's very well stated and has a really nice rustic feel to it.

Needs to get busier though to stay in business I reckon.
aldhous - 10 Oct 2006 15:03
A nice, clean, friendly place, lacking a bit in character. However teh food is good. Beer adqequate but nothing to shriek about (lager more the tone of the day). Lots of oikish yelling at teh footie... which stinks. There is an OK outdoors area with a view of Hanwell Green. It is very nice in some respects but generally not as good as it could be, which is a shame.
lawrence_owens - 7 Oct 2006 02:58
This pub was great! the locals are the best thing about it....and the staff (when I was working there!!)
honestluvie - 26 Jul 2006 14:54
Nice pub to take your girlfriend or wife,
Beer & lager ok if a bit on the expensive side. The locals are mostly Tree huggers & over grown students.
Boaby - 11 Jan 2006 15:42
Good range of beer and spirits, especially whiskeys. Monthly live music. Two darts boards and two TV screens showing major sports events. Good place for a quiet drink if you don't like shouting over music like most of the other pubs in the area.
anonymous - 21 Dec 2005 14:24
This pub had gone severely downhill, but a recent change of landlord and subtle makeover have put it top of my list again. The great beer is back!
jane - 17 May 2004 10:15
Not a pub I use a lot, but the interior is very smart and the staff are very good. Does anyone remember it before it became "The Dolphin"? (The "White Hart" if memory serves.) Then it was dreadful!
Steve - 7 Jan 2004 08:24
A old fashioned style wooden pub which I have frequently sporadically for 3 years hoping for improvement. It has so much potential. Unfortunately, the music is 70's karaoke, upkeep is slight, the landlord is ALWAYS the wrong side of the bar and take my advice and always stay on the bottled beer !
Matthew - 4 Jan 2004 12:38
very nice pub - not exciting but a fresh pub
