please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Whilst not a pub in it's own right you can definitely go in for just a drink so not sure what happened with the people below. It has a restaurant area and a bar area, though it does do a lunch menu in the bar area so maybe it doesn't like drinkers in the day. It is also a small bar area so if you're in a big group it might not be interested.

It is however a lovely place to sit and have a drink. The staff are very friendly and is one of the few places in Altrincham that has ale on and keeps it well. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and won't be invaded by chavs. It also does amazing food if you do want to go out for something to eat.

Definitely a restaurant. NOT a pub!

Good meals are available, but I preferred it when you could play chess and draughts here.

Restaurant - 7/10
Pub - 1/10

Seems to have relaxed it's non-diners policy a little - though some of our group had eaten there earlier. Had an OK Old Speckled Hen.

This is a restaurant. NOT a pub. People who do this to pubs really need shooting.

We were not allowed in Saturday evening, even just for a beer, as we had not booked a table. There was plenty of standing room available.....

Surely time to call this just a restaurant.

this is now an excellent 'gastro-pub' but still retains a local pub feel. the food is excellent - a varied locally sourced menu. not cheap but worth the money. the atmosphere is friendly and beer - just usually one or two ales - well kept.

worth checking out

Ten outta ten for me. I last used the Vic 20 years ago on a Christmas Eve when it was the only place open at 18.00 and it was dirty and full of Altys lowlife. How times change! For a start, its NO-SMOKING, brilliant! We were eight and our leader had been before and hes a smoker. Good range of quality beer for a small place Flowers & Speckled Hen, Jennings settling. Food exceptional. Smallish menu but all quality. I dont do starters & sweets but I can see enough and listen to the moans to know they were good. My venison was absolutely superb. Good wine list but again not extensive but who cares? Service good, only down side for a Satdee was the 23.00 bar closing but if thats my only moan, it wasnt a bad night at all. NOT A PUB CRAWL PUB but it does what it says on the tin.

Was funny to go in after it just opened to find a couple of scallies in there complete with baseball cap and tracksuits! I don't think they realised that it is only the Victoria in name now, which is odd as it will have to try to remove that old reputation.

It's aiming to be more of an upmarket-ish restaurant I think although there is a bar seating area still to the right as you go in. The decor is nice and the food is good, can't remember the prices but I remember the menu was a bit limited in terms of the basic english dishes. Very good friendly service. Unfortunately I am a smoker so won't be going back as it has a *no smoking* policy.

Recommended for non smokers. The tables outside look a bit Tesco Value.

OPEN - This has re-opened. Looks like more of Wine Bar/ Restaurant but they have made a great job of the outside and I will call in a for a meal in the near future.

Someone buy it and turn it into a more modern rileys type place, bit like the sports bar in town, alty needs something like that !
RomperStomper - 17 Feb 2006 10:09
Still shut. I might buy it.
Redmeister - 19 Oct 2005 10:24
It's being turned into a wine bar.
Redmeister - 9 May 2005 08:40
Inevitably has closed down and now boarded up.

When is this pub going to open on a regular basis? The landlord says he'll open and doesn't bother. We won't be bothering with this pub again.
Redmeister - 13 Dec 2004 10:31
Deducted Points. Not open on saturday evening or Sunday evening so we missed footy and big screen Simpsons. Land lord needs to open more regulary if he wants us to drink in there.
Redmeister - 23 Nov 2004 09:29
The new landlord seems to have sorted all that stuff out. There was talk of new pool cues and updating the Juke box. Good luck to him !!

I was in there yesterday aswell. Pure class, poker, simspons, nice birds behind the bar, few debates and bravo next door!!

Went in there yesterday. Absolutely class. Big screen Simpsons and footy. Nice to see a pub with a proper drug policy

The Vic is back! Shadwell Town were all in there yesterday to watch the United match and big screen Simpsons. Poker was rocking as well. Bird beind the bar was an improvement.

This pub is just Scary!!!!! Only houses about 2 or 3 drunk Irish men.... That's when they can be bothered to open... used to be good, then they re-furbed and the Landlady, thought it was a wine bar... since then has gone down the pan... I've always felt threatend when I've entered... OK for a quick drink... if it's open... as long as there is a few of you to watch each others backs....otherwise avoid...The smashed windows are testament to this posting!

Used to be a good place to spend sunday afternoons but the brewery's choice of landlords just ruined it. The last landlady turned the jukebox off if she didnt like what songs you had put on and then tried to turn it into a gaybar!!
Sweet child of mine!!!
Frankie went to hollywood, not alty!

I'd agree with the previous comment, ok for crawls but not somewhere to hang around in.
Nige - 15 Nov 2003 17:35
Really does depende when you "hit" this pub, but certainly not somewhere you spend a whole evening.
The usual array of beers and lagers and the odd DJ or karaoke night but this is really a "breather" between "downtown" Alty and the Old Market Square.
Just time for a quick pint before necking the real stuff in the Old Market Tavern.
