Now called "something social club" - a waste of space!
Went in for a beer before the gig at the empire - 4 deep at the bar hardly any staff I walked out
Whoever owns this place needs to recognise that empire gigs equal opportunity to make money and staff up accordingly - other pubs do!

big boozer in heart of shepherds bush - guinness ok, pub let down by staff, was unluck to be served by a moody french cow, miserable as sin, stuck her nose up at my mates choice of wine...as if she knows bugger all, apart from that not bad, toilets pretty dire though, have eaten hear once....suspect microwaved stuff as was at 1000 degrees c. Fortunately, plenty more pubs around with much better staff

Great bands on a Thursday and Friday night, especially a band named Pier 54.....party time from the first song !! Friendly bar staff and decent food at a good price.
Highly recommended !!

After three years of successful gigs at this venue, new Manager, Tom, cancelled Ki's remaining gigs this year due to dispute with our fee, which was agreed with the previous Manager, Kate. Our last gig was 24th September, the 250th anniversary of Guinness, and the pub was so busy they ran out of Guinness mid-evening. An obvious indication of how the pub is now run - badly.
ladyjanegrey - 25 Sep 2009 15:12
characterless big barn of a place, probably worth a swift pint after a gig at the empire, but better venues down the goldhawk rd
mozzzzzz - 21 Jul 2008 14:34
The place is not bad with a good range of lagers and wines, but the bar staff dont have a clue, I waited so long to get served and I got a worm bottle beer!!! This is not an isolated incident I never got served in turn!
andy_balas - 11 Jun 2008 09:48
ST.PADDY'S NIGHT....was a great place to be! had a fab time thanks
DwayneDeBarf - 18 Mar 2008 08:01
Had heard some good things about this place as a venue to watch sport, so my girlfriend and I decided to give it a go. What a rubbish place it was. The staff were lacking any manners whatsoever, and quite happy to ignore me as I waited at the bar. The clientele seemed to comprise a number of professional alcoholics, one of which tried to move on my girlfriend, only to make an ass of himself. Ultimately I stood at the bar for the best part of ten minutes being ignored by the staff, before moving a few doors down to 'The Green' to watch the sport all afternoon in a place happy to take my money in exhange for good, swift service.

This place is rubbish, full stop.
MohammedYousef - 10 Feb 2008 18:24
called in on Friday last and the place was buzzing....good Aussie/Kiwi? band with the dubious name Unsafe Passage played excellent covers, lead singer was very very good, great atmosphere our small crowd felt relaxed and comfortable.............will go back!
DwayneDeBarf - 2 Oct 2007 22:16
bring back Mad Dog McCray they were the lick, good night on Friday

Like most of the people who have posted comments about this pub, I am a big fan. Every single time I come here, I know that my group of friends and I will have a great night.
St Patricks night was very busy, but as a previous poster noted, there was no anger at the bar. The staff are keen to serve as quickly as possible, and I've not seen any mistakes with food or drink orders so far.
With regards to the 'predictable' music on offer, I too found this but the landlady, Kate, is more than happy to change the music to suit your taste, should she have the relevant tracks.
And yes, the girls that danced on St Paddy's night were Kate's daughters, and very good they were too!
Will definately be going back there soon.

I popped in after work last night (a Friday), without hugely high expectations (it is a chain pub after all) but found myself being pleasantly surprised by the service; we got served at the bar straight away, and there was pretty speedy table service. Loads of staff around, Budvar on tap, decent food, and amusingly predictable 90s indie on the PA.

bit confused on the last posting......was the subscriber using this location to rubbish next doors and in no way connected to O'Neill's "Shepherds Bush Empire" quality of ales? all seems a bit misleading (maybe a pint too many!) speaking as an occasional visitor to various O'Neill's establishments I've always found them (including this place) a reasonable place to sup a pint and generally pleasant throughout.......and no I'm not Mr.Bland who wears a cardigan and Hush Puppies,
cheers

First the bad news: it's an O'Neills (and even less interesting than most).

Now the good news: it's adjacent to the Shepherds Bush Empire - London's best live music venue (in my opinion, anyway), whose only fault is that their idea of a decent beer is even worse than the place next door...
rpadam - 30 Mar 2007 16:55
was in on Friday night and saw Bang-On, an Irish band and they were wicked!!! You have to see these guys play, everyone dances and has a good time, get to O'Neills and find out when they are playing, and must see band!
rorykavenagh - 28 Mar 2007 23:50
St.Paddy's night was best ever......had a terrific time, staff coped very well considering the day (Ireland got the Triple Crown at the Six Nations) was four deep at the bar but no stress or tense atmosphere plus loads of leprechauns hats thrown out, are they the landladys daughters who danced? will come back when next in the area

Came in at around 8:45 looking to get a quick drink before heading to the theatre next door. The place packed (Which didn't bother me) and very smokey. Waited around 10 minuets at the bar to be served along with a friend and failed to get served before we left with no drinks.
Why people put up with chain pubs who feel it's acceptable to have only 4 members of staff working a shift on a very busy night is beyond me.
anonymous - 1 Feb 2007 00:11
ok atmosphere but shame about being a sports style bar now too much match of the day!
anonymous - 14 Jan 2007 08:46
had the chance for a night out and ended up in this bar on the Bush and am I glad I did! drinking round the side was grumpy old Meldrew the actual bloke from the tv show and alongside chatting to him was a bloke whose face was familiar but couldn't quite place it then it struck me.......it was Alan Rickman the baddie in all the films, resisted the tempation of asking for an autograph as that is so naff but must admit I was a bit starstruck, oh and the Polish girl doing the floor was a looker so I reckon on going back, will report on the quality of the drink and service next time!!
Betty_Swollocks - 12 Jan 2007 23:53
this branch of O'Neill's has become a regular haunt for me as there always seems to be something going on, you can generally find a quiet corner on a Sunday to read the papers if that's your thing but Friday evenings are the best time of the week to pop in when it all comes alive, superb Kiwi band the other night ("Unsafe Passage") kept the atmosphere rocking and all of this after I had spent the earlier part of the evening upstairs in the pubs own fringe theatre "The Bush" enjoying an Irish play with some fine and talented thespians......keep the buzz going Belfast Kate cuz no matter what the the other local landlords say you're alright by me!
ps: can I have that free Guiness now?
ellzapoppin - 10 Oct 2006 22:45
constantly busy but enough staff to actually get the orders right first time! great landlady who takes no crap but likes to keep her customers happy. live music on fri nights i think and the bands are usually top notch. great place for a drunken night out in the bush!
anonymous - 28 Aug 2006 22:07
A good pub and one previous comment that it's not over run with antipodeans, no , but a lot of eastern europeans who don't speak english and don't understand the music either, they look at the band as if to say whatta youasaying about? antipodeans at least speak english and appreciate good music.
scratch - 28 Aug 2006 19:50
The best O'Neill's I've been too so far.

Packed at weekends and relaxing during the afternoon, great food too - I recommend the O'Neill's sausages with Colcannon.

Yum!
CheekyShepherd - 11 Aug 2006 14:15
Great rocking pub, good bands on weekend. The Hoggz are playing on the 18th August, seen these guys a few times and they rock, and are mad! Check them out.
kris99 - 10 Aug 2006 13:59
not bad at all for an oneills. always has something going on and a bit of a buzz.
stoichkov - 1 Aug 2006 12:57
Not bad for an O'Niells but the customary sticky floor is till in evidence. What do they mop the floor with in O'Niells pubs? Liquorice?
Not overrun with antipodeans, so a bonus.
algis100 - 26 May 2006 11:48
This pub has it all-busy with the right crowds for the right reasons. When football's on the tv there's a great atmosphere, if there's a gig on at Empire it's packed with music lovers. The rest of the time it's busy with people who want a decent night out without the hassle of groups of teens. The live music here is very good as the bands always seem to be of a decent standard.I've seen plenty of big group outings here to so I guess it's got something for everyone.
servemenow - 5 May 2006 13:25
......came back on Sunday after a good night here on Friday, not like a normal O'Neill's this place, good buzz t'other night with some band called "Life Of Riley" musically very sound, the singer was good but crazy! bit crowded but punters were in good enough humour, if you haven't tried it before try the Erdinger beer (alwight I know it ain't 'oirish!) ........
ellzapoppin - 2 May 2006 22:53
Went to this place for the first time with a bunch of antipodeans, and saw this band absolutely cooking. Don't the name of the band but they played kiwi and aussie music and everyone was dancing and would not let these guys off the stage.
The beers were cold and wet and the staff were slow serving but nice people.
Will be back for another session. Must find the name of the band that night.
Nice One . .
anonymous - 1 May 2006 13:04
In here last night before catching a cracking show from The Zutons at the Empire. Probably the best branch of O'Neills I've been in - but that's not saying a great deal. Pretty efficient staff though and a perfectly reasonable pint of Guinness. Can't particularly fault it - but not somewhere you'd go out of your way to visit.
tim_eyles - 28 Apr 2006 00:50
UNSAFE PASSAGE back once more to rock the house, on Friday 21st April from 10pm. Don't miss it!
ladyjaneg - 18 Apr 2006 16:57
Used to be the 'Bush', alas,
Let's all queue up and kick its arse.
beeronaut - 6 Apr 2006 13:21
Went along to this pub on Thursday night. Had a really nice time and the bar staff were efficent. Security staff a bit ott constantly watching our group. The keen assistant manager cleared our table every 2 mins or so.
zoe901 - 26 Mar 2006 17:43
St.Patrick's night was mentalistic, couldn't get over how easy and happy this packed pub has become even if it was a fight to get through to the bar, the Irish dancers who performed should appear regularly as they went down really well with everyone shouting and clapping for more plus the live band rocked all night
with a good mix of old and new covers......whew!
ps: thanks for the hats and roll on next St.Paddy's
anonymous - 18 Mar 2006 22:53
Don't miss Unsafe Passage on 21st April. If you enjoy rock covers ranging from Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Kaiser Chiefs to Daniel Powter (yes, really) performed by an excellent, very international band, with a sense of humour - then turn up on 21st April. You won't be disappointed. Great pub as well! Everyone was enjoying the music and dancing and singing along!
anonymous - 12 Mar 2006 12:15
busy but comfortable, good mix of customers dancing and enjoying the band on Fri. night (didn't get the name but excellent rock covers 'specially Whole Lotta Love) staff mainly foreign but seemed reasonably polite and efficient, definitely a thirty somethings type of place,
anonymous - 4 Mar 2006 08:12
.........getting better what with the live music playing every week now, (excellent gig the other night by some antipodean band called Unsafe Passage) nice to have table service by the good looking Polish blonde plus tried me luck but she was having none, tried the creamy German Weissen Bier (albeit strange for an Irish Bar) was impressed....can only describe it as the equivelant to a white Guinness.........happy days!
anonymous - 16 Dec 2005 20:04
UNSAFE PASSAGE performing at O'Neill's on 3rd March and 21st April 2006. Not to be missed.
ladyjaneg - 4 Dec 2005 13:43
Went along to the recently refurbished O'Neill's on Goldhawk Road last night, and witnessed an absolutely kick-ass band called UNSAFE PASSAGE. Clientele at the early part of the evening consisted of mostly Stranglers' fans en route to the gig at the Empire, but they returned! Songs ranged from Led Zep through Police to Van the Man and the crowd cried out for more. Kate, the Manageress, is warm, friendly and when necessary a little spikey, which can only be a good thing when dealing with those punters who bring their own alcohol into the pub...
Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
ladyjaneg - 3 Dec 2005 14:26
anon !! I remember the night it was the mandolin players birthday as well as david gray it was the 23rd not the 29th ye eejit the landlady has a great pair dont she ???
BJG - 18 Oct 2005 14:25
the music is back, met some mates on Friday 29th September before the David Gray concert and a band were playing some real toe tapping jigs with a good buzz all round, the guy on the mandolin was great and the big fellah singing knew how to get it across ok,
could have stayed and missed the concert and still had a good night out
anonymous - 24 Sep 2005 21:16
.....checked out the new interior after a recent "lick of paint" and was verily impressed! good nosh at reasonable prices(had the seafood crock) new landlady called Belfast Kate seemed chatty and personable just hope she brings back the craic and the traditional diddle-e-dee music after the Polish sojourn of the last few months, staff were friendly with an acknowledgement as you entered and left.........how a good pub should be! good for spotting the celebrities as well after the Empire kicks out,
Betty_Swollocks - 8 Sep 2005 21:09
Had a pint and some traditional Irish Stew at the Shepherd's Bush O'Neill's was really impressed.

Think the pub has undergone a refurbishment since I last visited cos the interior was alot lighter and brighter looked good.

My favourite bit of the pub is the snug areas that are round the corner from the main bar area - nice feature.

Went on a Friday night, the Irish band they had on was cool and played lots of covers plus the old Irish tunes.

Overall, had a really enjoyable night!

anonymous - 8 Sep 2005 12:56
I met the new landlady Kate from norn iron she used to run the woking o'neils for years she is pleasant enough but not to be messed with I hope she brings back the Irish music to this area which can only be found half cooked down the road at O'Donoghughes a touch of High as a Kite or Bang-On wouldn't go a miss here on the odd friday to get the P.P.P's "pseudo plastic paddy's" leaping into a frenzy of a who cant dance competition
BJG - 31 Aug 2005 15:22
It's an O'Neils, nuff said! to be fair when its busy there is a fair atmosphere and O'Neils do a good job on their pub food so if you are in Shepherds Bush and don't feel up to taking a risk then a safe if unexciting option.
downthepub - 7 Jul 2005 08:42
Dropped in for a beer before seeing Thin Lizzy at the Shepherds Bush Empire. Pub was very busy, but the bar staff were on top of the situation so didn't need to wait too long to be served. There was also a couple of barmaids actively collecting empty glasses. Agree with travis, this is a typical O'Neills. Disco on a friday night, took my exit then. The only critism I have is that the bar is so long and the pub so busy that you can't see what beers are on. A well placed chalk board would be good.
snowdog2112 - 5 Feb 2005 10:57
Great! Very relaxing pub to pass an afternoon. Friendly staff and fantastic food!
Donnie - 3 Nov 2004 19:25
Came in here before going to see Maroon 5 at the Empire next door.Cant say much about the pub,the word lifeless springs to mind not to mention really bad draughts of wind and incompetent barstaff.Still I am not complaining,we ordered so many things that the barmaid lost track and didnt charge for half the things we ordered!
Reason this pub has been rated is due to the fact that when we were in here we met Maroon 5's driver who was more than happy in exchange for a drink or two for a little meet and greet for my friend and I!You see you never quite know what may happen if you pop into a pub just for a sitdown,a cup of tea and some food!
Marisa - 15 Oct 2004 21:42
It's an O'Neills. And this one certainly doesn't break any new boundaries. What more do you need to know? Why are you even reading reviews of an O'Neills pub?
travis - 3 Sep 2004 11:57
there is polish music on thursday and friday, great fun for polish, not only..polish friendly staff, worth to see from time to time
fredka kredka - 1 Sep 2004 13:05
great pub to socialise in! the manager is always cheerful,(a very down to earth bloke) with a lovely galway irish accent! food is also delicious! you wont regret taking a trip here, faboulous athmosphere and lively staff!! and you may even see the saw doctors on one of their regular trips to the pub after a nite in the empire!
nicola, shooters hill - 24 Dec 2003 02:40
utterly mediocre, like all O'Neills anywhere. Handy for proximity but little else, there's better pubs a short walk down Goldhawk Road.
milko - 17 Nov 2003 15:28
the manager is a big arsenal fan and buys you a drink if you have your season ticket with you.great pub if your an arsenal fan
seamusjoyce - 6 Aug 2003 16:20
Irish theme pub full of Kiwis and Ozzies. Pointless and about as Irish as a kangaroo. Pumped music to create "a mood" - usually "let's go somewhere else".
David - 25 Jul 2003 14:09
Any pub that stops people from going in because they are wearing trainers is a disgrace. I cant tell you what its like because of this. dont bother with it.
Jimmy - 7 May 2003 10:54
Shame about the grolsh on tap, but it is open late and you can get table sevice if you're lucky. Well bounced, so you don't get any of the bush smellies in there.
Annoying layout to get the the karzy, a sort of horseshoe affair.
Tums up for this one.
beer - 14 Feb 2003 15:38
Yep - nice pub and handy before an S.B.E gig !
