I went for lunch and can honestly say it was the WORST pub meal I've ever had. I got charged 4.70 for a sorry lukewarm baked spud with prawn "cocktail". The cocktail was just a wipe over the horrid prawns. The pub was freezing and I couldn't wait to leave. Don't go there if you want to have anice meal!!

went in on christmas eve. trade was brisk. i did not mind waiting at the bar as it was evidently very busy but the staff were at times clearly serving friends first.

of the five hand pumps, the only one available was london pride which was dull/uninspiring.

the pub ran out of tonic water, vodka and also pint glasses. although conspiracy theorists may think the last one may have been less than accidental as the plastic pots that replaced them were small and the servings in them fell well short of a pint.

will revise my previous 7 rating to a 5.

On looking for somewhere to lunch on a weekday, the griffin looked excellent from the outside. The interior looked like a new 'retro' refurb. The service was good, although the waiter/barman looked inexperienced, the food, served in good time, was awful. Mine was not as said on the menu, my wifes, was cremated beyond all recognition. My risotto bared no resemblance to the description in the menu, and the piri piri chicken was insinerted. I have yet to try the pub next door, but my next time in the area, that is exactly what I will do... one to be avoided....

This is a nice pub. Plenty of room to sit down and normally have a couple of ale on which tend to be kept ok. The staff are nice and it now has TVs to keep you entertained. There is an ok quiz on a Thurs as well, although the same teams do seem to win every time. The food is normally nice, but as with all pubs like this you may get the odd time where it's not so good.

Is a very clean pub that does a lot of food and appears family friendly. Nice outdoor area. Beer is good and had 3 handpumps available on my visit.

What a surprise - a visit back to my home town to find a totally refurbished Griffin - tastefully done. Last visit 2 years ago was pretty wretched but this was a revelation. Superb cask ale, quiet Tuesday bight, we didn't have any food. A quick visit for a nose around became an hour of guzzling all the ale we could - can't wait to go back in February!

i like this pub a lot. its 5 mins from my house, has a good atmosphere on friday and sunday nights - QUIZ! also washed-up footballer spotting is enjoyable when its quiet! if youre poor or not suitably 'bowdon' stay away and stop the jealous whinging! but people please remember to be polite to the lovely staff!

Note to the staff: eau de vomit is not a nice smell!

This puppy is a beverage paradise. It should be part of the alty bar crawl but it is not because of the walking distance.

I went in to see what all the fuss was about!!! Its a nice enough pub nothing special. Prices are reasonable and the sofa area is nice. Quite a few pensioners in there. The food is lovely! highly reccommend the food.

Few kids in on a sunday night though! Hello ID anyone!!!!

Apparently pretentious customers but just ignore them!

nice in summer too.

I got asked for I.D. in this pub round about the time of my 20th birthday.Obviously I was too old for the general crowd. Id rather spend my money in a pub with friendly staff thanx!!!!

Not been in this pub since I left my independant school, it was cool to go there at the time. I was about 15. Went in for the first time in years last monday night and it was still the same, packed full of under age drinkers, blonde bimbo's (boys and girls), ex-United players, fred the weatherman and most of the cast of Corronation Street. Still had a good time laughing at them all!!

Nick is accurate.Horrible place with lots of ex-United hangers on and dyed blonde bimboes. If you want a proper pub go to the Railway in Hale-10 minutes walk away.

Wicked pub, best in South Manchester. Nice inside, great athmosphere and not too expensive. Not many scalls!!

Used to be the place for the "Cheshire Set" and all the independent school groupies.Doesn't sound like alot has changed and I take it the Cheshire Midland is still no better.
boddies_drinker - 9 Oct 2003 13:32
Full of rich ponces and gormless bints who judge men by the size of their wallet. Ignorant bar staff and landlady. Beer is bobbins.
