user reviews of the Cowley Brick, Uxbridge

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub, like so many in the Uxbridge area has been closed and redeveloped. In this case into flats.

The local council flouts the Community Pub legislation by saying there are other pubs nearby, however when all those have been converted to flats, KFCs, Indian restaurants, other food outlets, there will be no other pubs nearby. Closure and conversion has happened to at least 20 pubs within a mile or so of Uxbridge town centre.

I am Tara Jane and how dare you judge my clientele most of whom are students at the local university. Your points are invalid for one I do not sell or advertise real ale so that is like saying that i do not have lollipops, It is irrelevant. I have had no proplems at all in the last 6 months and it has been a pleasure to run such a charming community pub. This can be verified by the local constabulary who have told me I am doing an excellent job. We are just trying to make a living running a decent honest little pub. I would love to talk to you next time you visit to see how you can pass judgment on people just by appearance. Thank you Julie and Gordon for your comments I would love to meet up one day to swap Cowley Brick stories. All I can say is that I hope people will visit and make their own minds up.

Have lived near to the Brick for a while but haven't been for a couple of years. It used to be ok for a drink with a mate, but not so good for a nice pint with the wife. Will have to take another look as based on my last visit I'd only have given it 4/10...

As a member of the pool team can i just say we had a great night. loved the ham and cheese toasties, back tomorrow for semi finals and what better way to finish off than winning at poker. Cheers Tara.

I am a resident local to the Cowley Brick, and must admit I had avoided it like the plague for the last few years. After much persuasion from my partner I reluctantly visited the pub on Friday. I was pleasantly suprised to find the pub had been cleaned up in a number of ways. The interior and the all important ladies loos were much improved, and the other customers seemed friendly and welcoming. The new landlady and her partner gave the perception that they are commited to running a business for the local community, and respectful of the local residents. They are also good fun and very friendly!
I am not going to rate the pub at the moment as I am keen to see if the new landlords will deliver on their commitments. I did see enough to say it is worth a look and would recommend paying a visit to make up your own mind.

This pub deserves a chance and as the new landlady I am determined to save it.

Wow a real find in the backstreets of Uxbridge. A proper community pub, not many left nowadays, with Sky Sports, home made food, quiz night, poker night, djs and open to all ages. Kids are made very welcome and as it is so close to Brunel University there was a nice mix of people. I would recommend this to everyone. They also have a darts team, a pool team and a 5 a side football team. there really is something for everyone and the new management team are extremely friendly. well worth a visit.

Don't knoe where lady boy sorry ladyday went for the review but it was a different place to what i found. There is a new landlady, Tara, who appears to have cleaned the place up and is very enthusiastic but dose not tolarate arseholes. Food is now served including a great value Sunday Lunch, and a cask ale is due to arrive today. Def worth a visit now.

Fab little place. Sorry to hear its closed.

ladyday you`ll be happy to hear its now closed. I`m a little confused, yes the pub attracted a few herberts in the past but I know Gordon and Jules the ex custodians well and im telling you theres no way on earth he would allow half the crap you claim happened there. This guy turned around some of the worst pubs in Liverpool and the East End and he just wouldnt tolerate it.
I cant deny the clientelle could be a bit dodgy but it was a working mens pub, always was unfortunately its gone, i doubt it`ll re-open, no passing trade, no music license etc, just another pub gone like loads of other

ixion, by walking on by in the future you will be doing the right thing. A person who lived near the pub was made ill by this. Landlord threatened them alledgedly when asking him to control the clientelle/noise. Is much happier since moving out, despite losing money on house sale due to pub's bad reputation.

It's hard to shift reputations, even for decent pub owners, but place still has same rubbish clientelle the previous owners attracted, violent drug taking youths, so it won't change. Visits from drug dealers on a Fri by all accounts, and landlady dealt herself I hear. History of guns, guy shot at a few years back in toilet. A guy got racist abuse once, fled as abuser had a gun. Lots of people getting beaten up in there, an older couple who were not trouble got hospitalised, landlord did nothing to stop it according to a witness, stood and watched the woman get hit by a youth on his own premises. Such a shame it has these kind of customers as it has potential to be a decent community local and being near to the University, it could attract better customers than it does.

Would be wonderful for the local people if someone would turn the place around but I can't see it happening.

I have to agree with the comment below. I went there last Friday and there was a very strong smell of weed outside as we walked-in. Having no handpumps was a sign that all was not good but as we had arranged to meet people we had to stay. Yobby clientele who all looked up-for-it. If I had had a choice I would have walked right on by, as I will be doing in future.

Surprised no-ones posted anything about this pub but Gordon from the Turks Head has taken over,a top bloke and excellent landlord so I expect this place to be buzzing soon.
