I’m surprised that there has been no review of this pub on here since October 2012. This was the 3rd pub of the day in the village, different to the Inglenook and Lamb in that this feels much more like a locals pub and doesn’t seem as food orientated as the previous 2.

Several ales on the hand pumps, I arrived a little after my travelling party so already had a very drinkable pint of Bombardier’s Burning Gold waiting for me.
Several different areas, the area immediately by the bar is large and had several tv’s on showing the grand prix qualifying, most of the punters were blokes with all of them standing in this area chatting and watching the tv’s. There’s also a pool table in this part of the pub.

Large fireplace down towards the female toilets which is to the left as you enter, we sat here around one of the various large round tables, sat in this area you can fully appreciate that there are bears everywhere, as well as the very large bronze standing one…which me and a pal had our picture took with!

Various events on here during the week, including quizzes and live music, the pub also has rooms at a reasonable rate.

Another very good pub.

The Bear changed ownership this summer, but remains my favourite in Pagham. The menu has been updated, the new staff very efficient. John, the Bar Manager continues to amuse.

A wide range of Beer, well kept by the excellent Bar Manager. JOHN. The menu is varied with a wide choice. I've eaten there regularly & always enjoyed the food.
try a meal when the excellent "Table Magician" Dean is performing. Staff always helpful & pleasant.

Quite a nice pint on a quick stop by. Friendly staff. Woefully little seating on a Sunday if you don't intend to eat.

Very quiet, and the beer was flat. You'd be better off in the nearby Lamb or Lion.

Nice pub but have felt at times unwelcome by the land lady when entertainment is on. She seems to enjoy getting up and dancing but when we have joined in we have been given the dirtiest looks and are watched like hawks. Also when we have eaten there drinks have been placed on our tables with the staff holding the very tops of the glasses which as I know from years of working in pubs is completely against h&s rulings.

Popped in after a 3 hour drive. Made to feel welcome on a busy friday evening. Menu was interesting & beer good.

We had an anniversary lunch here yesterday, not bad and good value for money. Just a couple of minor points, table mats should always be used for hygiene reasons and a knife is required for the butter when served with bread for a soup dish. We got neither. It was also noticeable that the Landlady was working her tiny socks off and 5 other staff were in 'steady' mode. We will return but the staff need some proper training. 7/10

We had a morning coffee here recently and some real improvements have been made since my last visit several years ago. The menu (traditional) looks attractive and reasonably priced so we'll try the food soon. The garden is small but very nicely put together with good seating and smokers facilities. Of particular note, the garden is well protected from the weather.

The Bear has had a bit more of a refurb done, the dinning area has been opened up into the bar - it's not as bad as you might imagine. It always surprises me that The Bear is still open, it has been through some very lean times in the past. Now busy with friendly staff and a good selection of ales. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
