Tonight myself and 9 work colleagues went to this pub for tea and drinks. After spending a few hours there some people left and paid for their meals separately as they went. As the final few started to walk out of the door what I believe was the landlady very abruptly shouted that we had not paid for 1 of the desserts. We explained that we didn't think this was possible as we had all paid for exactly what we had and she continued to loudly and rudely say that we hadn't paid. We agreed to pay even though we know it was a mistake and she then went on to complain that we should have all paid the bill at once. Her manner was horrendous and as I drove out of the car park she sat outside and glared at us. First and last time we will go there! Shocked at her disgusting manner!

Excellent food and friendly helpful staff. We were a party of 4 with a small dog looking for food after a long walk. We had seen negative comments on the internet but decided to see for ourselves ~so glad we did ~ would definitely visit again !

Bit of a fall from grace this one. Refurbished to be more of a food pub. Whilst they still maintain a selection of cask ales, the problem is, as I understand it, the pub has a manager who works for a pub company (can't remember the name), which in turn lease the property from Punch Taverns. With so many parties between beer and consumer, this unfortunately has an affect on beer prices. Not the good pub it was with Ken and Beryl.

Terrible! I recently attempted to book the function room for a 21st birthday party and not only were we refused, the landlady was very rude! Such a shame as we have enjoyed many plesant evenings in this pub before. We will be drinking in the leeds arms from now on!

I popped in for a quick lunchtime pint. They had Tetley's, Directors and Calvesgon on tap. Bar maid wouldn't let me try the Calveston (computer says no). I plumped for the Tetley's ; tasted like vinegar. Place was empty. Avoid.

Stopped in here on a Saturday lunchtime. They had three beers on: Tetley, Adnams and Copper Dragon. Copper Dragon was a good drop. Also tried out the reasonably priced food. Staff were welcoming. Pud has several rooms and each seemed to have a seperate identity. Pool and darts and big TV available in one of the bars.

trooper now regularly has five cask ales on offer.
that is tetley, adnams, and tim taylors landlord as regulars, and has upped the guests to two instead of one.
yummy!

Totally agree with all the above, good beer and staff, good conversation so who needs music? Regularly drink guest ale or landlord which is nice.I also drink stella which is good in here, not so good in another pub very near to the trooper called the leeds arms. Damn fine food too, excellant value.

there are two pubs in the village, and this is usually the "quieter" one, as it does not go much for music or entertainers [which is what some of us like!].

It is an attractive classic style village pub with old english timber beam rooms, brasses and church-pew benches, and smiling faces behind the bar!

It has a military theme, with pictures of historical uniforms, etc. there is a central bar with three rooms. the back room is a public bar with pool table & TV. upstairs function room and beer garden at the back.

there are numerous keg beers, three regular cask beers [tetley, adnams and taylors landlord] and a regularly changing guest beer.
food is available lunch and early evening on most nights. games and quizzes through the week.
damned good.

As a regular I can only agree with other comments. Timothy Taylor Landlord and Adams are regular beers.

Fabulous place. Warmest welcome I have ever had in a pub. Beer quality was faultless.

The best Tetley's for miles. 3 guest ales. Excellent food. A very welcoming pub with a great landlord and landlady.
