Dirty pub but friendly enough. Ale was off on last
2 visits so that's me done.

Good little boozer near the station.

Looked and felt dirty. Really could do with a spring clean. Posters are still up from UEFA 2012.Although there's a sign saying dogs not allowed after 2011 there was a big dog on the sofa.
The door was open to the kitchen which looked a tip.
It could be a decent pub if it tried

Nice pub close to the station where I sampled the Itchen Valley Hampshire Rose which was good. Friendly lady serving and a lovely old pub dog lazing the day away on the sofa made for a relaxing atmosphere, 8/10

Pretty decent pub which does a nice, good-value(4.95) breakfast. One real ale (Hampshire Rose) and one cider (Black Rat). Very convenient for the train station.

Prepare to be roundly ignored by the bar staff if he does not know you...
"Local dive for local people" by the looks of it..
If you have missed your train and are looking for sustinence you'd be better off getting some chips down the road than visiting this place.

Not a bad pint of cider but a pretty rough clientele. Cheap rooms though and open all day for those who want a beer using the station.

A 'spit and sawdust' basic, wet led boozer, this pub is normally friendly with a decent real ale or two on but most locals drink cider. however late at night some of the customers do get very pissed which can be a little intimidating...
6/10

Bit dubious when I first went in but to be honest, ignore the slightly tatty interior and this is a decent pub. Friendly Bar Maid and locals were also welcoming. Had 2 pints of Solstice bitter which weren't bad. Would definitely go back.

Train was delayed so I had an hour to kill - not a lot of options close to the station, so Cat Tavern it was!

A little on the scruffy side, with a 'feature' sofa that's perhaps seen better days. Bar maid was friendly and the locals were, well locals. Amused myself on their jukebox, which was well stocked with some good 70's classics.

As for the main event, tried a pint of their 'Octoberbest', which wasn't exactly to my taste.

We had just returned from the Stonehenge bus excursion, we were tired cold, hungry and dripping wet. The Cat Tavern was the first pub we saw open. The bar maid was friendly, as well as the patrons. The furniture was well worn, but we were too. We found a comfy table near the radiator. The owners big old dog greeted us too. We had a good lunch, some cider, a few pints of ale, the service fine, all was good. The only minor issue is they did not take plastic, and we had little cash. There was no pressure, but I had to walk a bit before I found the Barclay's bank machine that would issue cash to my US credit card. All in all, this was a good time and I hope to visit the beautiful town again.

A bit scruffy, but friendly enough reception from both locals and staff. The place feels wuite homely with its profusion of dogs, well-worn furniture and elderly people snoring in the corner. The punk rockers took the edge off that picture, though. Also the music was far too loud for my liking. The beer also lets the place down - I had a pint of Wadworths 6X which was a bit dull.

Worth dropping in for a quick pint, but better to move across the road to Deacons afterwards.

Quite an interesting pub just by the station. Certainly plenty of modelled cats all around this pub but there were also pet dogs! Felt it may be a little on the rough side but generally ok and has a Jukebox. 3 pounds for a pint seems to be the going rate in Salisbury.

BEWARE - not friendly to Americans. My family (all adults) entered this wonderful establishment, we were asked if we were Americans. We responded yes and were then told to leave and head on down the road.

Fairly nondescript boho-feel room with lots of hanging brass knic-knacs and a loud juke box pumping out varying but pretty decent tunes. 6X & Ringwood Best on handpump.

This pub always guarentees an eclectic mix of characters! We only pop in when we are waiting for our train but it entertains. Friendly bar staff and cheap juke box.

Recently visited for the first time in months, the beer was as good as ever (spitfire). friendly staff, good food.
I stayed overnight and was less impressed by the accomadation, generally in a very poor state of repair (shower not working, room door did not lock, polyester sheets, very small duvet, wallpaper and tiles falling off etc.)It was however cheap and the breakfast was very good.

Since this website is devoted primarily to qaulity of beer, food, and service, and not accomadation,I vote 7/10. If however I was voting re the accomadation, they would be lucky to get 2/10 !

Crechetastic!

For a 'run down' looking pub close to the station, the beer is expensive!
The beer was well kept, and the service friendly. A good position, near to the station, probably helps trade.

popped in when visiting family, blimey what a strange place, but will use again as friendly ,not sort of place used to drinking in and takes bit of getting used too!!!ideally situated

Well located as a meeting point if arriving in Salisbury by train. Ringwood best normally seems to be available and on good form, and they do a very good all day breakfast.
fromedrinker - 15 Feb 2006 12:05
Very friendly, basic back street local. Good value grub with real ale from Ringwood and Shepherd Neame Spitfire. Two real ciders from Taunton and Black Rat from Moles (cloudy) Two friendly dogs and a well stocked juke box make this a place worth stopping.

This is a funny little place. Good ales, dangerous cider, and some damn fine local music talent. Close to station, and a worthy stop on a crawl through Salisbury, or just down Fisherton Street.

Potentially a great little boozer, ruined by tramp clientelle. Need a pint of ruff cider at 10 in the morning? They beat you to it. Nasty Mancunian regular named Mick. If the Landlady got tuff, she could make a killing with this ideally located bar.

Went here whilst waiting for train at the railway station - not bad in a standard pub kind of way; nothing special but good all rounder. Like many pubs wine not their strong point. Nice dogs in the bar

Very cosy little pub - great quiz night - friendly staff - nice beer.

A reasonable local serving good Ringwood Best, Landlord and London Pride. Basically comfortable, but a recent evening marred by a foul-mouthed member of staff at closing time.

Stopped by for a brew after a trip to Stonehenge, LOVED it one of the best stopes on my entire trip to England!!
