Superb Sunday roast, best I've had for a long time. Lovely staff too.

The Anchor Inn has had a complete makeover & it really is fantastic!!!!! The pub is unrecognisable to what it was! Looks like a trendy, chic London bar - well done! Well worth a visit. Beautiful furniture, lovely clean & spacious toilets inc disabled - also disabled access. Hurry up with the food guys!! Also a welcoming smoking area & gardens etc & excellent staff.

Been so long this pub got reviewed! I have been back several times since Mark & Alison, the new owners have taken over & it's a truly great family/local/village pub. Gary the chef & all the staff will properly look after you - great food - great service - great beer!!! Look out for the Karaoke's once a month & the fancy dress disco's!! I went 1 wed night & they seem to be doing Silly Steak Night - 6oz Rump, all the trimmings for 4.95!!! Great Sunday Lunch too & serve till 4pm!! Lovely local, frindly pub!

After Annonomous comments I revisited this establishment and found it to be clean. Yes there are children allowed in to the pub but there hasn't been an excessive amount. Perhaps Annonomous ought to try the other pubs in Norfolk before stating his point. Which I still find unfounded.

the person who done the good write up on this place must of been paid as i went in and found it dirty and gruby ,the service slow and i was surrounded by kids, very poor !!!

After visiting the pub and eating there recently I found that the food was of a high standard and well worth the visit. The licencee has changed once again and the new couple have really taken the bit between their teeth and are trying hard to build up the busines. The bed and breakfast is up and running again and is reportedly a bargain, not suffisticated or clinical but clean and friendly. I have only seen one peice of ill humour whilst I have been visiting and that turned out to be another licencees party from the other end of the village. Jealousy perhaps as after visiting their establishment it was unfriendly and frequented by questionable clientel. Still thats another tale.
I would recommend that you try the Anchor Inn again and experience the friendly bubbly Landlady and the excellent food on offer. If you want loutish behaviour do not go its a framily pub and the licencees want to keep it that way.
Xmas Draw is on soon buy a ticket and see.

Also I feel I must add to the comment by the current licensee (sam) about making the pub nicer. Your opinion is that you have made things nicer. A few hanging baskets and benches DO NOT make a pub!! A pub is where people go to relax and enjoy good company and if you wanted to change everything, why didn't you buy into another pub instead? The Anchor has been known for donkeys years as a pub for more mature people and the Wildfowlers used the Bed and Brek every year! This was never a youngsters yobbo pub!
I think you will find many of the regulars are not your regulars any more.

Well anonymous, You'll be pleased to know that the Anchor is changing hands yet again, after only a year! Sam cannot make it pay. Possibly because she stopped the Bed and Breakfast side of the business and has also alienated many regulars.
Yes I admit service has become terrible. It takes ages to get served. Sam is more of a socialiser than able to run the pub.
Lets hope that the new licensees make a better go of it and value their customers. Also lets hope they can build it back up to what it was before as local pubs are becoming an endangered species.

Being the landlady of the pub i am quite shocked to hear this and have been told over the past few months since i took over the building that i have made some good improvements by moving things around.. offering a wider menu.. mmaking it more fanily friendly, and currently working on the outside area . Hanging baskets are now up and some decor has been changed. I appreciate everyone is entitled to their own opinion and feel most people find me easy enough to approach should someone be bothering them. The pupb is in a village habited by all ages therefore all ages will venture in and out of the public houses in the village. Also the locals that drink in the pub now are locals that have always drank in there. I should know as i worked for the previous landlord for approx 10 years on and off. I am sorry you felt disappointed and i assure you if ever i hear foul language i am soon to pick people up on it.

Unfortunately the change of management has not changed this pub for the better. On a recent visit it had become frequented by some foul mouthed locals whose main reason for being there seemed to be to upset the rest of the clientele. Shame it was a good pub before.

I am actually the new owner of the Anchor Inn sutton bridge and i will be taking over form the 26th July. There will be some slight changes and hopefully will attract a wider range of people. With a family orientated area. an outside seating area and a change in menu's including a new lunchtime menu i hope to make a cracking good go of it.

When we moved to Sutton Bridge two years ago we frequented the Anchor regularly because we had no cooking facilities. We found the landlord very friendly and the food was very good. We continue to pop in from time to time to enjoy a Sunday Lunch.

Bypassed by the A17, the Anchor is worth a visit if you are marooned in a Yarmouth bound traffic jam. Sutton Bridge near the Norfolk border, has three pubs of which this is the best. Pool table/restaurant/drinkers bar all in separate areas. Friendly landlord. GK IPA on handpump + locally brewed Old Honesty if you are lucky. Accommodation too if you can't face the A17 again !!
