Another great stop off point for myself during V09.
This one is a large pub, with a fantastic area out back that had an extra bar, music stand, only criticsim is not tons of seating space but adequate.
The inside is a tradional feel, and was packed.
Works well and would return

Went to the beer festival last easter.
The beers served were very nice.
But we did not like the pub inside, a bit scruffy, gone downhill from
former visits.

A really great pub with good (mostly home-cooked) food. The range of beer is quite extensive and staff are very friendly a extremely efficient. The decor has recently been greatly improved and Rob, Ellie and Barry the joint leasees are really making this the pub to visit whilst in the picturesque village of Writtle.

Now reverted to the name of The Rose & Crown.A good basic down to earth boozer with friendly staff and locals. Two regular and three guest ales on and although not tested the food looked very good and in very large portions.Well worth a visit.

Getting a bit tatty now but about to recieve that much needed lick of paint by the new landlord. Great location, decent beer and wonderful locals...

Good selection of real ales at reasonable prices. Good food and good atmosphere. Don't miss the summer beer festival

Lots of real ales on all the time. Friendly bar-staff, nice food, TV generally showing some footie, decent size beer garden.

Could do with a lick of paint but it's a top place to slope off to on a Saturday when the missus is shopping for England in Chelmsford town centre.
