user reviews of the White Hart, Eversley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

New landlord has recently moved into this pub and is making a very good fist of it. He says that the pub will remain the same but is introducing some basic food that will hopefully appeal to female customers.

Decent pint in a traditional old setting but the loud, obnoxious chavvy locals on our visit were a bit offputting. It's a small three roomed pub and not really sure of its identity: is it a traditional old English inn? Is it a live venue? Is it a locals' place? The answer is all of the above, so make of that what you will. Decent enough pint mind.

The pub is a really nice old traditional pub, dating back 400 yrs old as a pub! upto 4 Guest Ales on offer, worth a visit!

Visited twice recently during mid week lunch times and been greated by friendly faces. Bar menu midday is a tad limited but acceptable. Good select of real ales in a traditional pub setting is just what I like e.g. no TVs or loud music etc. Ignore the negative comment must have been an off day.

I visited this establishment on a Sunday afternoon and found it most delightful. This is a proper pub in a quiet setting with a pair of grand old fireplaces, beams and various knick-knacks adorning the walls. Cheese on the bar was also a nice touch, rarely seen these days. Sure, there were a group of locals in there, enjoying themselves watching the Olympics but none were rude and the barmaid done everything asked. Don't be put off by previous comments, this one is worth visiting. I would normally rate it at 8 but to try and re-dress the somewhat harsh previous ratings, in my opinion, I will be rating it 10

PS there were also a small family of American tourists in the garden. Don't be put off by this either. They were not loud at all and I find it refreshing to find our cousins seeking and enjoying a true English inn, such as the White Hart

Things have got worse since the review of 15 Aug 2006. The reaction of the regulars when a 'stranger' enters is like a scene from a horror movie. They gulp their drinks, turn their backs and mutter. This encourages the bar staff to disappear. I would have loved to have found out if the food was as bad as the over-chilled Courage but the kitchen was closed. Rugger-bugger's paradise (as long as you are a Marauder) Rudest landlady in Britain.

I can only assume that the previous review was written when the pub was under different management... I have been in 3 times (giving them the benefit of the doubt), but each time has been met with the same dissapointment. The bar staff NEVER acknowledge you, give "service with a frown" and to be honest you tend to down your pint in double quick time and make a hasty retreat. There seems to be a large group of regulars who are about as social as the bar staff and I can only assume that they are keeping the pub afloat; they certainly don't seem to want to attract any new customers.
No redeeming features, avoid at all costs!!!
Given them 1 point because their range of beer was fairly good. -10 points for effort though!

Great local-type pub in Eversley (a small rural village in North East Hampshire). The food here is excellent and the staff are really friendly. The London Pride and Directors are always top quality too. They don't get arsey if you take your dog with you either! :-)
