Visited this pub in august this year. Great atmosphere, great food and great locals. The lady lady at the time ( Emma I think) was very welcoming and chatty. Visited last week and the pub has had a change of manger he was rude, huffy and stood there in his coat wanting to close the pub at 2.20pm. Very unwelcoming. But still lovely pub and idillic setting appart from the rain.

Second time i,ve been in here its no different from the last time, very quiet and apparently looking for a new manager. Was told Sam.s are sacking managers right left and centre.Advert in local paper wanting trainee area managers no experience in licence trade[weird].Obey are you are sacked it seems.Best of luck to you pub managers.Anyway had a nice pint off OBB.

Fabulous village pub infront a duck pond [thats the only entertainment one will get] had a nice sandwich
Its a pity its Sam Smiths a little background music would have been nice.A fabulous choice of two beers?
Manager stressed due to lack of staff, even though it was,nt busy he does nearly all the shifts.Things may change?

Took my fiance's father to this place a few weeks ago one summers eve(he is very hard to please but he loved this place)it wasnt too busy but the weather was beautiful so we sat outside, we sat facing the duck pond across the road and ordered some food too.
The food was gorgeous I had rump steak which was perfect and complimented the beer, the staff were very helpful and the landlord brought out a bowl of water for our dog too!!!

The thing though that made our evening was watching the ducks and ducklings constantly crossing the road stopping the cars(I did mention to landlord he should put duck on menu!!!!)

In all a perfect place to sit outside on a summer evening!!1

Sam Smiths bitter & lager at very reasonable prices. Have not eaten here so cannot comment on food. Good atmosphere on quiz night.

Dont go there it's a dump. Food beer atmosphere all that of a homeless soup kitchen. oh and it look like it was last decorated in 1950. Lovely!

Good village pub (Sam Smiths, naturally ...) overlooking the village duck pond and next door to Askham Grange prison(!)

Beer is Sam Smiths, Sam Smiths or Sam Smiths (the agony of choice ...) and their Imperial Stout slipped down nicely - far nicer than Guinness.

Haven't eaten there, but the board outside the pub this evening proclaimed that there was an internationally themed menu every Tuesday. Read into that what you will.

If tonights visit is any indication, it lies outside of the 'pissed punter' radius that usually exists on race days.
