Everything that is bad about an hotel bar - no real ales and high prices.

They are so fed up of our custom they are turning into a casino, what a joke!!

I would go along with the general opinions stated below. If you need to meet someone at an easy-to-find location in Paddo, before your train, then meet at The Mad Bishop and Bear, above the station concourse. Steam's service is indifferent and the prices steep. It is a hotel bar in Paddington, that thinks it's in Manhattan!

If you want to set yourself up for the ultimate disappointment head to STEAM. This is truely one of the most out of place (and worst) bars I have been to in my last decade of drinking in London.

The design is mis-leadingly cool. Upon entering, you definitely feel like you have found a hip place. The bar looks like somehing way too hip for the Paddington area. However, the management and staff are also out of line with the cool surroundings.

It took our barman over 15 minutes to mix up a dry martini. He had no idea how to make one, and spent several minutes asking every other bar staff what he needed to do. Needless to say, not one of 5 barstaff including the manager had a clue about martinis. I was asked, do we need ice? do we need Vodka or Gin? and when I mentioned the olive they really got confused. 15 minutes later I got a 2/3 full (1/3 empty) martini glass with plenty of crushed olives, and a liquid that resembled oily sewage more than a dry martini.

If you're only having a beer you may be all right at this joint, but anything else and you're confusing yourself with the modern interior of the place. It's just a pub with poor service in disguise.

Stumbled across this place by accident. Terrible atmosphere and warm beer. Never again !!

This place has got an attitude. Myself and a few freinds tried to get in here the other Friday night, for a private party, only to be told that there was no entry after 8.30!!
After ringing the person who's party it was they reluctantly let us in & they then told us there was no draught ale, bottled only, alcopops at 4.50 a shot. Said my goodbyes to the host and quickly dissapeared.
Would give this a -4/10 if I could.

Such a pretentious bar does not belong here (it thinks), it belongs in the west end with superstars drinking in it. If you have more money than sense (which isn't hard in London) get your Jimmy Choos in here. However a 5 quid entrance fee at weekends is not worth it. There are plenty of local pubs nearby that are moch more worthy of getting my (very) hard earned cash, and better beer too.

A friend of mine fell asleep on the loo in here and woke up to find the whole bar deserted.

Nice appearance, but very overpriced & the choice of beers is very poor! I like my lagers cold - not room temperature. Would not go back...!!

Doesn't get busy until quite late so not a good place to start if you're looking for a crowd! Something i like in a good bar is a nice glass and a choice of crushed or cubed ice which you have here.

Such a pity this bar has aged so much so quickly. When it first opened there was a great drinks menu with loads of interesting beers and cocktails and some decent wine. NO MORE. Also gone are the helpful friendly staff and pleasing atmosphere. Will not be back.
