please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Found this pub to be attractive and busy on my visit (Just before the Kaiser chiefs played Kirkstall Abbey nearby). There were three real ales available, a good choice, including Leeds Brewery Pale, Ilkley Bitter and Wharfebank Tether Blonde, however, this was a a bit on the expensive side at nearly 3 a pint.
Seemed a nice enough pub, although the barmaid/landlady possibly seemed a little bit offhand with a few customers, whilst the pub itself was heavily geared towards the food side.
Reasonable place for a pint, just not sure it offers anything extra to justify the extra cost of a pint.

real ale drinkers check your ale here!! watch the staff closely. i've seen them put the overflow from other beers and lagers! into the ale overflow and then open up the tap underneath and give you a mixed pint of beer!! disgusting!! i think it's called 'stretching the barrel' in pubs. no comment on the food. never had any!

Great pub food. If your like me and hate 2for1 frozen pub meals then go to the West End House. Not cheap but big plates washed down with great ale. Good for cider drinkers also. Beer garden is an after thought but an enjoyable place to go pre and post Rhinos/cricket matches.

Decent pub with well-kept beer, but pricey, and a visit is often spoilt by the management policy of blasting loud music through the numerous speakers dotted about the place, even when the pub is not busy. The volume is regularly set at a level which makes conversation a strain. Even the outside drinking/smoking area has a speaker! Maybe they think this will pull in the students on non-quiz nights, but from what I have seen this policy fails, and must discourage some who might otherwise become regulars.

Food seems to take over at time leaving just a small bar area at the front of the pub for drinking.

Kirkstall's pubs are a motley bunch, a collection of estate pubs and student drinkers, some even both. The West End attracts a wide range of people but is only really busy on its quiz nights, when the students descend for a go at free beer prozes and free finger food. For a quiet pint, including a regular rotation of cask beers (Black Sheep, Deuchars, Worthington and many guests), an interesting selection of spirits, friendly locals and staff, it's hard to beat in the area. The food (daytime only) is a step up from the usual Pub Grub if a little more expensive but a nice place to take Mum and Dad on a Sunday afternoon, especially if they're paying.
