user reviews of the Lady of Mann, Liverpool

The Lady of Mann can be hit or miss. Yesterday it was more hit than miss. Much quieter than Rigby's or Ye Hole In Ye Wall, it had 3 real ales on - Okell's Bitter & Kirkstall Three Swords & Dexter Milk Chocolate Stout. There's also a fine selection of gins on offer.

All I can say about this pub is that it is tremendously average. Okell's bitter o.k. Digger's Gold o.k. Newspapers o.k. Service o.k. Music o.k. Punters o.k. Food o.k. if you like chorizo and cheese. At the end of the bar it has a glass showcase reminiscent of a butcher's shop with cold meats and cheeses, which I have never seen in a pub before and which gave the place an eerie feeling. I kept expecting Jack Nicholson to come limping up the stairs leading down to the toilets wielding a meat cleaver.

I hate long walks between pubs !! Out of Sarah Rigby's and across the courtyard into the Lady of Mann - brilliant. Okells Bigtter and MPA on draught the latter being very enjoyable. I need to go back to this pub to see it when it isn't rammed on a Saturday night.

While it isn't the best pub in the Dale Street area, the reviews below are very unfair. There's usually 2 guest beers (as I don't like Okell's except the IPA this is vital for me), the beer quality is good and the staff are pleasant enough when not run off their feet on busy Summer evenings. Far superior to Rigby's, which has all the charm and sociability of a Wetherspoon's without the cheap beer.
Bland interior, closes early Sunday, across the courtyard behind Rigby's.

Ale of questionable quality.

An Okells pub which only had one of their ales on tap! So we left without further ado.

Nice pub but the beer was a little disappointing.

Nice enough decor, pleasant staff and in a prime location (you can sit in the courtyard weather prevailing), however had a pint of Amstel on Saturday and it was very poor, flat as a witches...
To be perfectly honest, your better going in Rigby's next door.

Modern bqr with exposed brickwork and glass partitioning. It was pleasant enough and the beer was well kept. Felt more restauranty than pub-like but it was ok to include on a crawl even if I wouldn't go out of my way otherwise

This pub (is it actually a wine bar?) was a big disappointment, literally next door to the Thos Rigby, I had a pint of Warwickshire, which was way too cold. Limited choice and as its next door to the Rigby I know which Id prefer. Just a quick pint on the pre match (Colchester v Tranmere crawl). 5/10 Visited 26/9/2009

I guess we were here the same afternoon as RobCamra, as the beers he mentions were on during our visit. The approach to The Lady of Mann through an archway next to Rigby's looks quite promising. But as previous reviewers have said, it's a bit too like a wine bar for my liking. There's plenty of seats and tables and they show football on the TV. The toilets are a bit of a hike downstairs. But the service was friendly. I still preferred Rigbys.

This was until recently The Courtyard restaurant, it still looks rather like a restaurant inside as oldboots mentions with the exposed brickwork. There are 3 handpumps but only Okells bitter and Bath Gem were on when we called on Sunday afternoon. The Gem was OK but not totally top notch. They have live music on Sundays from 6 and an open mic night on Wednesday. Its a bit wine bar ish for me but the other half loved it so I suspect well be back soon.

Entered via a gateway between The Saddle and Rigbys this is in a building at the back of the shared yard or patio. The third of Okells Liverpool pubs, in comparison it sells a cut down range of Okell's Bitter plus a guest on each of two further pubs, although only Reverend James and the bitter were available on my last visit. There is also the choice of a few fine european keg and bottled beers, Carling making a rather limp appearance alongside them. As with the other two Okell's pubs the beer is always of good quality and well kept, staff friendly and attentive, I believe the staff are shared between here and Rigbys. Snack type food is available comprising bar snacks, pies, baguettes and cold meat platters. The single room is split into two sections by a large glass panelled structure surrounding the staircase down to the toilets. The front section has the bar, a TV and a few tables and chairs, the rear part more tables and chairs. The modern fad for exposed brickwork and bare floorboards is given full reign here.
