Splendid back street local. Ales in tip-top condition. Easily the best pub in Peterborough city centre.

WOW WHAT A GEM .First time in ostrich inn today.good choice of well kept ales in a warm and friendly CLEAN pub.So clean i would prefer my food to beprepared in the toilets of this pub than the kitchens of pubs CAMRA members rave about in the local area

Some of the customers may be a bit rough and ready but in my experience (and I am a frequent visitor) they are on the whole friendly and no trouble if a bit loud and boisterous at times. Friendly and efficient landlord and staff and always 5 mainly local ales on handpump which are unfailingly well kept. Nice little beer garden out the back which is particularly pleasant on sunny days. For my money, one of the best if not the best pub in the city centre.

What a dilemma, the beer was fair and the bar staff lovely but the clientele were very questionable to the point we left half way down our pint. Worth a look at quiet times but I wouldn't recommend!

Definitely one of the best pubs in Peterborough well worth visiting.
glennon37 - 13 Apr 2013 04:33
one of the better pubs in city centre, good beer friendly landlord , and good entertainment at weekends.
riggs - 16 Oct 2012 14:02
Improved a lot till my last visit years ago when it was called "Bogarts".
Had two nice pints of dark mild in the beer garden before going to the beer festival.
Worth a visit.

Enjoyed a visit to here after visiting the Brewary Tap. Looked a nice place, obviously recently done up and the beet was excellent.

I agree with all the comments below - come on guys, change the awful picture!! I come and drink here whenever I'm out in town - great little boozer. After I've had a few I start to regret that my feet no longer stick to the floor and that the toilet does not leak... but all round the changes are for the best. They've done a great job.

Took me some time to realise that this used to be called Bogarts and was a bit of a pioneer of real ale in the early days. Good to see it open again and reverting back to its original name. Pleasant "modern" interior with a smoking area/patio at the back; clean toilets and a nice feel to it. A range of ales including a very excellent Barn Ale from Tydd Stream Brewery (a new one to me but an excellent pint) The Ostrich is just of Westgate in the city cnetre and is not very far from the rail and bus stations and is well worth a visit.

A much improved pub after a few years of declining standards. Good service, good beer, good prices and a friendly welcoming landlord. This pub is firmly back on my Peterborough circuit after an absence of a number of years.

Picture does not do this place justice, its an excellent pub for the city centre which only has mainly dire offerings. Great ambience and service with adventerous real ales. A slightly hidden central gem
theposh - 1 Aug 2011 11:48
A great little pub with friendly staff and a good choice of very well kept (usually local) Ales. Only discovered The Ostrich six months ago but we now visit there every time we're in Peterborough.
3konaowner - 17 Jun 2011 21:08
Friendly, efficient service (even though the poor bar lady was being bored senseless by a man at the bar!) and a wide choice of real ales, the one of which I tried was lovely!
ace1973 - 2 Oct 2010 09:32
A very good refurb and now has a selection of ales on. Usually one from a local brewery and it has Just had a beer festival.

As Bogarts this pub was OK but rather down-at-heel, without the compensating friendliness. Has recovered as the Ostrich - I hope it's a success.
Arctium_lappa - 7 Feb 2010 21:08
Now re-opened, and called the Ostrich, which was its original name.

Popped in briefly a few weeks back, seems ok, time will tell. Beer was good, though there were some local "characters" in there - but then that's the way it's always been.
nmckenn - 23 Oct 2009 22:32
Being refurbished ... due to re-open on Saturday 22 August.
axeman - 1 Aug 2009 09:59
Still shut - and for good this time I believe.

A real shame - used to love this place when I was younger. And as I got older, it was somewhere to pop in for a quiet beer of a Saturday lunchtime.
nmckenn - 24 Dec 2008 00:19
Now closed again.
axeman - 17 Sep 2008 20:27
Planning application refused. Now open again. New tennant has 2 (out of 6) hand pumps in operation (typically good quality JHB & Tiger) whilst customer base increases.
axeman - 23 Jul 2008 12:34
Closed pending a decision by the Council over a planning application by the owner to knock the place down and build flats.
axeman - 1 May 2008 22:49
What on earth happenend here? Oh yes, I got older...This was always a cliquey place, from the early days of Pete Waller, through the reign of Scott and Martin and is still the same even now with the new(ish) licencees.
Everything has a way of finding it's own level and after an initial spruce-up and refit, Bogarts has now found that level. It's not one I want to share in however....
gargan7 - 24 Apr 2008 09:53
The beer was good, but it was a back street pub, quiet when we called and I preferred the outside garden area to the dingy interior. Not a lot of beers on when we called in.

gillhalfpint - 15 Apr 2007 22:59
Beer is Excellent Everards , but they have now taken to playing Drum and Bass so bring cotton wool
Amarok - 17 Dec 2006 22:27
Good staff, nice beer, but a horrible hole of a place.
DeggyT - 4 Nov 2006 22:41
Did anyone see the opening scenes in American Werewolf in London when the boys enter the pub and everyone stops talking a looks up. You get the same welcome when you enter Bogarts. Apart from that the beers OK
Amarok - 15 Jun 2006 22:22
Staff charming, beer excellent, legendary pea & ham soup and beef/horseradish sandwich. A very good pub indeed. (Food all day till 6 pm).
joegreen - 20 Mar 2006 13:10
Recently re-opened after refurbishment. Bogarts is an acquired taste. Its not a hip and trendy pub but has great beers, good value food and handy for the city centre.

I like the place but its not to everyones taste.
Fenlander - 31 Jan 2006 21:54
A mate and myself went once on a Saturday in November 2005. The music was very loud, and the decor was dingy, tatty and silver(in a pub!). The beer was OK, but the whole atmosphere was very unfriendly - not a pub I'm going back to (especially with the Brewery Tap just down the road
MikeB - 6 Jan 2006 17:12
Reopened, rejuvenated and worth visiting.
Just had an excellent Beer Festival organised/supplied by Bram.

Give it a try.

Beare of Honey Beer!
TeeeCeee - 1 Apr 2005 13:06
Bogarts reopened shortly before Xmas. The place has been tidied up a lot, as has the garden, which will be an ideal location for beer festivals when the weather is warmer.

Six real ales available, mainly from Everards although the splendid Oakham Ales JHB is a permanent guest. Food will also be available in the near future.
Bram - 9 Jan 2005 18:50
Glad to see it's about to be refurbished. 3 years ago it was a fantastic pub, then it had new ownership who treated the decent drinkers like shit. For the last 2 years it's been frequented by low lifes who quickly ruined the best pub in the area. It smelt like shit, had rude barstaff and crap beer, but we were suppose to go in there...? No one in Peterborough did, so thankfully it's closed for a make-over. Let's hope it recovers its previous outstanding beer reputation and let's hope the drug addicts who made it their home since 2001 stay away.
lfriend - 26 Aug 2004 22:50
Currently under new ownership and closed for refurbishment.
Scheduled for reopening in mid-September. No major changes are planned except it will be cleaner, with new bogs! Food will be provided by adjacent Italian restuarant.

Bad News, the latest is that Bogarts is no more.
Tim - 18 May 2004 14:01

Bogarts @ntlworld.com to express your diguist ith the free Masons who with only a weeks notice are shutting us down!!!!!!!!!!!!

A small back street local that has had some hard times and changes of management but is now coming back on form.

4 + Beers and occasional Ciders (but last time they were charging 3 for this).

Pleasant enclosed Beers garden.

5 Minutes from the Brewery Tap
