Shocking pint of Betty Stoggs which was definitely on the turn. The Mrs was served up a diet coke which was flatter than water. Barman commented that he was waiting for the syrup to run out. I suggest that if he knew it was about to run out then perhaps he should have already changed it rather than try it out on a customer. Very disappointing. As the drinks were so disappointing we decided not to stay for the food.

Just been to this pub with my family - the place was packed! Superb food (my wife had the Hake - I had Paprika Chicken), excellent ales (I opted for Betty Stoggs) and the staff were attentive and very friendly. All in all I would highly recommend The Engine Inn to anyone staying in or near Penzance.

Many years ago this place was run by Les Rowe, and his mother lived nearby.
If notice was given, Les would have his mother prepare "proper" pasties, and these were the best I've ever tasted, complementing the excellent beer which he sold. Les is the funnier brother of Jethro, the well known Cornish comedian, and a true gentleman.

The pub has been in new hands for about 18 months. Four of us ate there and in August 2011 it was excellent. The service, atmosphere and particularly the food could not be faulted.

The beer here was good but the food was ordinary. There was not many people in for the day and time. It seemed to have changed atmospere since we went in couple of year ago, perhaps a change of tennents / owners ?

This is a fine old building located high on the rolling moorland, so it can be very windy at times. Great views in all directions and old mine engine-house nearby. Very friendly bar staff. Very efficient service, even when busy. Three real ales on handpump including Doom Bar (very tasty) & Abbot's Ale. Pool table. It offers an uncomplicated food menu, but there is plenty of choice. Their steak is very nicely cooked. Some strange unidentified prepared salads were served with some of our meals, veg is the best option. There are tables and fine views from the smoker's patio. They have two high quality rooms but sadly they are for couples only and not families.
