user reviews of the Smith and Western, Chichester

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I visited this restaurant in Chichester with my daughter and grandchildren on Saturday 3rd August. I can honestly advise anyone thinking of visiting this restaurant to read this review and other reviews and avoid the place. The food was absolutely appalling. My husband and daughter ordered hamburgers and chips(£13.25 each). The hamburgers were dried and the baps were a soggy mess and not edible. The chips were black where the original potatoes were rotten. My grandson`s pizza was cold and the children`s ice creams (so called rocky road and snowberry sundae) were a blob of melted ice cream with sweets put on the top. I had Goldrush Pan, a medley of breaded items, which were the only edible and satisfactory item in the whole meal, which cost a total of £64.90 plus tip.

The prices are quite ridiculous for the food and drinks (£2.45 for a diet coke) and the type of venue. However, staff were pleasant and served the meal with a smile.

I am not a fan of Macdonalds but you could have the same menu with the same food for approximately £21 and it would be better than the food at Smith and Westerns.

I did not want to spoil the evening for my daughter and grandchildren by complaining and refusing to pay the bill with the resulting friction with the restaurant. I did however, write to their head office to complain but they said we should have complained at the time and refused to give any compensation at all. This restaurant will most likely survive because it is liked by the children with the Wild West theme and it is part of a chain.

Your children may enjoy going there but you will feel thoroughly ripped off and I have my doubts whether the food is good enough for children to eat. So my advise to anyone reading this is find somewhere else in Chichester. There are plenty of good restaurants cheaper and serve excellent food in the area.

You will be very disappointed if you visit this venue

Great for a fun night out with friends, not really a romantic date kind of place. Loud and fun, massive portions, cocktails & pitchers of beer. Enjoy

Gret place to coem for a cold beer or a huge steak. Infact i would go far as to say the best steak i've ever had in the UK.

Not really a pubar, but well worthy of it's inclusion on B.I.T.E.

Great fun. Lovely staff. Expensive but gorgeous cocktails.
HUGE food - can anyone ever finish their plate?!

You also get to suck helium balloons such you want to.
Can get busy so do book at weekends and for large parties.
Gets VERY hot in summer so be warned.

You will leave with a smile on your face.
And a lollipop.

cocktails are fab-my fave is the western colada.
Tried other places like S&W but no where has come close to the ribs or the BBQ sauce.
Always plenty on your plate and the birthday involvement from the staff is great- love the sparklers!

I come from Poland and I've been working on one of the farms near Chichester for 4,5 months, so every day off we used to spend looking for nice places to go and have some fun. When we found out about Smith & Western our search was finally over and we came there every single time we felt like going for a drink. Great coctails and food. Excellent stuff. Actepable prices. Has my full recomendation!

bar and Diner. But WHAT a bar and diner. Themed like something out of the wild west. Beer is quite expensive, but served in frosted glasses (now there's a novelty!!!). Cocktails to go, from a list or let the bar staff knock one up. Again first class. Great selection of whisky and Bourbun's.

Not a quiet place by any means, but has a really good atmoshpere, created by staff who are nothing short of excellent, both sides of the bar.

Go see -you won't be dissapointed!!
