user reviews of the White Hart, Pulborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The White Hart has a gorgeous location next to an old 14th century bridge over the River Arun. The only spoiler is that the modern bridge belonging to the A283 creates a little noise. The pub itself seemed quite small and cosy. But, there is a large garden, seemingly popular with kids and another small drinking area at the end of the bridge. We had a nice time watching a family of geese and some canoeists. But, it can certainly get busy. 3 ales were on - Sharp's Doom Bar & Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter are the regulars. The guest ale was Langham Godiva. In reference to the previous review, I think that loud music is a thing of the past. Despite the number of people, it was quite tranquil on our Saturday afternoon visit. Nice place.

Lovely pub in a lovely setting, it’s a shame that it seems to be owned by some sort of rock/blues festival promoter. I’ve driven down a few times for a nice quiet pint in a nice little pub by the river arun (probably what you’d expect from a nice little pub in the country?), however on numerous occasions I have arrived only to be greeted by a wall of noise (I refuse to call it music at this point) I’ve been down there with friends to enjoy a few pints and a chat, we’ve had to get over the bridge to be able to hear one another, the bands were playing so loud outside to the point that my car windows rattled as we drove in. The other times I’ve popped down, there has been weirdy beardys and crusty hippys banging on bongos and thrashing on ukulele’s in the bar, taking up a whole room in light of the pub being too tiny to accommodate any band. I wouldn’t mind so much but it’s the frequency of the things? Every weekend theres a band on some times in the day sometimes in the evening, and its totally random so there no predicting it to avoid it! 1 star for this pub, they should know their audience a bit better and take in to account that not everyone is a fan of appallingly played blues/rock and new age traveller folk music…aside from that is smacks of desparation? putting on gig after terrible gig in the vain attempt to scatch out a living, which says a lot about the owners, less concerned with the pub or its customers and more bothered about the money!

Finally under new management. Reverted now to a proper pub, not a restaurant with a bar as previously. New landlord isn't a miserable **** either. ;). 3 real ales, with one guest on rotation. Nice reasonably priced country food too. £2.50 a pint on selected beers Monday night. Nice to it back to a decent local.

A very pleasant pub in a nice riverside location. A good range of local ales and reasonably priced food, which was also good. The tables were a bit cramped but it was a busy Sunday. We found the service to be friendly and efficient. Overall a good visit.

Today, Sunday, two friends and myself stopped at The White Hart for lunch. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful contrary to what I hade been led to believe. I can thoroughly recommend this pub and the setting is idylic being next to Stopham Bridge and the river Arun. Give it a try.

Pretty location & building. Stowford Press cider.

Stopped off here several times. Had pizzas in the garden, bad thing about the garden is that you cannot see the river for the tree's and there is a massive noisy generator in it.

Pizzas were lush though, very nice and hot. Good price for good food.

They sell brilliant Ales, local Arun ales. WELL DONE!

Nice pub to sit on the bridge, come whilst having a walk or stop off from taking a trip up the river.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND, one fo the better pubs in Pulborough for a summers eve.

Quite a decent place. Although busy, they managed to cope fairly well. A good range of beers, those tried seemed fairly well kept. Mid-week seems to be a little heavy on the "Saga-generation" side (a party of ramblers arrived, some of whom actually were wearing plus-fours!), but that is true about most pubs in the South in mid-week nowadays. 7/10

Visited on a Friday evening with great expectations but were soon let down. We managed to get served with drinks at the bar and were pointed toward a table. No offer to show us which table though. Service was abysmal and the male who eventually came and took our order was more interested in yakking to people he knew. The food was reasonable but a bit pricey. I had to hunt down a waitress in another part of the building to order sweet course.
The only thing worth going to this pub for is the view from the old bridge.

Beer much better but service just a dire. Funniest thing ever, an American visitor asked for grated cheese on a baguette. 'Sorry sir' the 'service' replied 'but thats not on the menu, it doesn't come with cheese'. Exit gobsmacked American. I mean, how difficult is it to put grated cheese on a baguette? I think they ought to rename this pub Fawlty Towers.

Food great, let down by poor beer. Its OK if you stick to bottled though.

Visited on several occasions for lunch.....good food but staff pre-occupied with domestic problems on one occasion, second visit was much better. WIns by position and view, otherwise nothing special. Resturant area rather cramped.

Not sure what was so difficult about serving a cup of tea at 2pm or removing the cream from Welsh Rabbit (but still paying the full price) but not only was it not possible, we were told in no uncertain terms just how impossible with a loud and pointed and rude "NO" - no discussion, no offers of alternatives, just "NO". In addition to being inflexible, the menu is overpriced. Will not be returning or recommending this pub to anyone.

An idylic setting on a summer's evening sipping a pint or 2 of local ale, an ancient bridge as backdrop, while watching the fish break the surface of the slow river. A pub and setting lost in time. One of my all time favorites over the years. see Good Beer Guide.

A very fine local pub. Been here twice in the last three months, had a delightful lunch outside early September and again on Boxing Day - this time inside. Good selection of well kept draft beers - Hogsback TEA, Horsham Best and Arundel Sussex.
