Efficient staff, large spacious pub with tables out front for smokers. Decent food at reasonable prices. I had a pint of Abbeydale 'Moonshine' , a very pale acceptable ale.

They've tried to shake off the old Yates image by doing it up inside and renaming it "The Burlington" but it's still much the same with regard to food and clientelle

Said I'd never go back but the group I was with insisted on going in.
Vast improvement on previous visit! New management perhaps?
Cleanliness issues adressed.
Quality pint of black sheep, at bargain price, promptly served by friendly staff.

Keep up the good work whoever you may be!

i have always liked yates's and although a chain pub have always changed with the times Hence the cask ale offering, the pint of black sheep bitter(2.35) was perfect, the actual pub has more atmosphere than a spoons and is genuinely a nice place and that is coming from a CAMRA member,7/10

The last but one review was a bit unfair on the place. You have to carefully pick your times when you go in here as it's a bit Jekyll & Hyde. Midweek evenings are best when no noisy matches are on the big screens so its not full of rough-arses and chavs. We're not youngsters (63 and 76) but we love the place. They've recently redecorated in Paris brothel style with some ludicrous fancy chandeliers. Food here is better and cheaper than Wetherspoons. We've been here nearly every Wed night for 3 years or more, (not just a one-off visit on a bad day) and get 2 tasty, generously portioned meals, 2 nice sticky puddings, bottle of Echo Falls wine, 2 coffees for a total of less than 18. It's not Egon Ronay but it's OK quality & quantity wise.. The staff are young & genuinely friendly and obviously enjoy their jobs as there seems to be little staff turnover unlike Wetherspoons. Don't come for real ale but what is on offer is cheap and palatable. We come here for the food, then at 9pm, to the Portland for the beer.

Beer was okay, staff were hit and miss. Somehow always end up in here after a day in Chesterfield.

A Yates's is a Yates's I know, but this is the worst of its kind I've ever visited!

Good customer skills from very friendly door staff enticed us in.

Alarm bells should have rung when entering a town centre pub at 10 on a saturday night that was barely patronised at all. Immediate impression was of a dingy, unkempt and gruby venue, sticky florrs, uncleared/unwiped tables etc.

The lack of customers had obviously led to the staff getting lost in their own little worlds but when we were eventually served I opted for a pint of Black Sheep. This arrived in a less than sparkling glass and was truly awful, god alone knows how they got it this bad.

How bad? I left above 3/4 of it! Bar staff informed me "it's always like that!"
Well there are plenty of pubs nearby where it most certainly is not, so out we went.

I won't be going back but if you must then don't forget to wipe your feet on the way out! Or wash them in the gents toilet floor lake!

A generous 2/10.

being one of the pub chains that accept tesco clubcard vouchers for meals, we tend to use these quite often for saturday lunch!
chesterfield yates's is located at the top of the main street, by the spire. it's small-fronted, but is fairly large and goes back quite a way inside.
***
inside, there are are two main tabled/dining areas, at the front and the back. The long bar is centrally situated. whilst not neglected, the place has a slightly "knocked about" feel to it, chipped paintwork, spill stains, etc. this is probably a result of rough treatment by the evening revellers and football fans.
***
the standard yates menu applies, which is quite reaso nable, with 2-for-6,etc. coffee at 99p is also available. food quality and service was reasonable.
[we've noticed the staff in all the yates we've visited during the day [a good dozen or so] always seem to be particularly polite to customers].
***
verdict:
a bit rougher than some of the other yates's we've been in, but service and quality was just as good.
we would [and do] re-visit.
