please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Following the expected departure of the dismal couple mentioned a couple of years ago, this place had a few months being run by managemnt company staff who wre apparently not up to much. Now being run by a local couple who seem to know what they're doing. I wish them well, and shall be back again for another pint or two.

Absolute crap, more like a creche or nursery for a start, and the staff blatantly don't want to serve you. Very disappointed.

This place was closed and boarded up for quite a while. Major refurbishment/epansion has taken place, and promises were made about the professionalism of the couple who have taken over the place. Sadly, these promises remain unfulfilled. The place was fully booked for Mothering Sunday lunch, so I hope the food was passable. The selection of beers was a little sparse, as only Butcombe and Doombar were apparently available, but it turned out that this choice was suddenly reduced as Butcombe became unavailable as I watched an incompetent playing at barcellarman trying to look as if he knew what he was doing. The staff are untrained and have no idea what they're doing. I predict an early exit. (Which is what I executed) I shall not return.

Called in a couple of weeks ago. New landlord OK, locals the same as usual! Beer good, ambience good. Next time will go on the bus and drink more!

Decent pint of St Austell Proper Job (although I'm not keen on the use of a sparkler - perhaps helps to attenuate such well hopped beers) with a reasonably priced meal at lunchtime - good chips. Doombar also available - it seems the guest beer is only on at the weekend. Farmhouse cider also available.

Think this pub has a misleadingly low rating. Perfectly well kept ales, reasonably priced, well cooked food and a huge garden which is great for families. Freindly service.

Found this pub very friendly. We found the food very good and could not fault our time here.

STOPPED OFF FOR A PUB LUNCH, ORDERED COD IN A GOLDEN BATTER WITH CHIPS AND PEAS AT 9.00 ISH, THE FISH BATTER WAS BURNT AND FLAT, DARK BROWN, AND THE FISH CONTENTS WAS NOT COOKED INSIDE, THE PEAS TASTED OF BLEACH HOWEVER THE CHIPS WERE SATISFACTORY AS THEY WERE FROZEN CHIPS AND COOKED CORRECTLY, I LEFT WITHOUT MAKING A COMMENT AS THE FOOD LEFT ON MY PLATE DID THAT FOR ME, HAVING OWNED TWO PUB BUSINESSES AND BEEN IN THE TRADE FOR MANY YEARS I WAS DISSAPOINTED IN THIS SO CALLED COUNTRY PUB AND WOULD RECOMMEND PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD MENU, VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER.

We visited the Castlebrook Inn for lunch on the Saturday afternoon of an Easter weekend. The ale selection was excellent with 20 real ales available at only 2 a pint! I think this was a temporary 'beer festival' promotion, but who's complaining?! The food consisted of generous portions of good honest pub fare at a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and efficient and the locals welcoming, which all made for a pleasant lunch stop.

Average roadside country pub. Friendly welcome, ales OK but nothing special, food basic pub grub but reasonably priced.

needs help to be a good road-side inn...
