A lovely friendly pub with attentive bar staff and a very eclectic clientele. And the beer and the food are SO cheap. This is a gem of a place to stop and rest your feet. Not the most modern to be sure, but worth a visit in this no personality world of chain pubs. Wish it was my local.

You'd be hard pressed to find a less characterless boozer with the customers to match. Lot of lezzer types with Doc Martens too, bleurghhhcha.

I didnt think much of this place, so didnt stay long. To my mind its more of a drinking den. The Marstons Pedigree would have been better served at a little lower temperature; nice honeyed taste, though. The Brakspear bitter was much better; now produced in the Wychwood brewery in Witney Oxfordshire, not far from the Cross Keys PH where such first began.

Plenty of atmosphere and great staff. Loved it.

This is now a Marstons Inn with food, beer and accomodation. The actual bar is quite a long way away from the font door but they had a good range of Marstons products on draught (Brakspear/Jennings/Ringwood and Pedigree). My Jennings "Cocky Blond" could have been a bit cooler but wasn't too bad. Almost next door to the new Wetherspoons so we shall see who takes the trade!!
The Queens offers cheap food (which seems to be the current trend in these large brewery-owned pubs) but it is a fairly bog-standard menu.
Worth a look in to see what beers are on, but that's about it.

Beer range has changed and is more varied and interesting than before, but no mild. Unfortunately they generally insist on using sparklers on the handpumps which means it takes ages to pour a pint - to be fair they make an effort to give a full pint. Also it ruins the flavour of most Southern beers which aren't designed to be served this way.

massive punchup pub - they love a ruck in here especially when footie on. used to be a family place but is now the away fans dirty den of choice. the brown ale is always off too the bleeders! last thursday leeds fans trashed the place and sh*t thrown everywhere. not even sure why they were in as end of season?!?!?

The beer is drinkable but the service can be slow (very slow on race days). Food is standard pub stuff but OK.

One of the better pubs in Newbury but that isn't saying much. Beer drinkable. Unusually has mild available (Banks's Original). Food edible (my friend says - haven't eaten there myself). Interesting old building. Gets busy on race days.
